  • "From the moment we walked in we felt at home!"

Such a lovely space. I feel that everything was taken into consideration- especially for us dog owners! Lots of lovely thoughts and details- a little condiment cupboard (we forgot pepper!) Welcome note and bread and milk was lovely. Air fryer!! Top gadget! Very welcomed! We also liked that all cleaning tools were provided. I do not like to leave a trace and We like to clean up after ourselves so having mop/brush/ vac was great. The wall maps were superb- would like to buy one! Great base for our walking holiday in the Peak District I would absolutely come back to Magdala!

Thank you so much for your feedback! Property Owner

  • "We received a lovely welcome pack which was much appreciated."

Thank you. But we were very disappointed with the description of this property by Sykes Freight trains running all night along with noises from the local quarry. Unable to have the windows open at night due to the noise. Not the relaxing country retreat I needed. Dog friendly property but no local walks. No phone signal in the house I’m with O2. Owners aware of some property issues and say they will repair when able.

Thank you. We will look at the description on the site and mend accordingly. Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback. Very helpful. We will be replacing the floor this winter and will look at the door locks. Joan Property Owner

  • "Very well equipped cottage, clean and comfortable."

Kitchen and bathroom are very old, but certainly useable and fully functional. We would definitely use again when in the area visiting relatives. One note to property owner, we couldn't get the gas fired log burner to work, there was a small metal piece on the floor next to it that may have been part of it?? We turned the gas off at the valve behind it.

Thanks for this. You were right the knob had broken and we've now replaced it. Your comment was really helpful, Joan Property Owner

  • "Bathroom has had a quick refresh but needs a more thorough update."

The loo seat is a bit flimsy and won't survive a season! House is lovely and warm. All new equipment although we didn't use the washer or dishwasher. The railway / quarry workings were a bit noisier than anticipated. Window open on a warm night in the summer might be less than ideal.

Thanks for your comments. We hope to revamp both kitchen and bathroom next winter. And we've replaced the dodgy loo seat. Really helpful comments, Joan Property Owner

  • "We stayed 3 night in Magdala last week."

We received realy nice welcome note, fresh bread, milk, eggs, tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh beautiful flowers.Thank you very much. The cottage was bigger than we axpected, very clean and comfortable. Very well equipped and good quality kitchen essentials. Great eco cleaning products, tea towels....really everything what you need to prepare meals. Little garden with a grill and pizza stone ready to use, only bring your charcoal, all needed utensils provided. The bathroom isn't modern but everything worked well. Additional towel rack would help to dry the towels, There was only 2 things to improve and make our stay perfect: better quality of bath towels, which were smaller and didn't absorb the water well and to provide a hair dryer. However the owner promised to get one for the next guests. I would come back to stay in the cottage because it is in a central location for hiking and exploring The Peak District, very quiet, relaxing area and we slept well.

Thank you for your feedback and for staying with us. I'm sorry there wasn't a hairdryer but there is now so thank you for suggesting it. We'll also think about somewhere to dry towels. Kind regards, Joan Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely cute good sized cottage with a wonderful little cottage garden."

We found it a good base to explore from and come back to. Every where we went was within half an hour or less by car such as Chatsworth House, Matlock, Bakewell, Buxton, Pavilion gardens, Solomons Temple…all dog friendly with great parks and walks to explore. We found we slept really well (no problem with the trains) The neighbours were great especially when we had a storm and a power cut. The owners also were at the end of the phone for any problems. • "What a lovely place!"

!! I went with a friend and our two spaniels and we absolutely loved it! It was perfectly located for all the walks we wanted to do, well equipped, clean, cozy. Several thoughtful touches as well such as dog bowls, a crate, and bread/milk on arrival. Don’t be put off by the proximity to the train tracks, we hardly noticed. And the neighbours are lovely as well.

Thank you Kate for the lovely feedback and it's great to hear that you had a good time with your friend and the dogs. Best wishes, Kevin and Joan Property Owner

  • "Good location for the southern area of The Peak District."

The cement works could have been off putting but did not encroach at all. The shunting of the trains could be a little noisy but only if you were already awake. Magdala itself was cosy and quirky with a lovely history. The owners made sure that the property was well kitted out and made you feel very welcome.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the lovely feedback and the helpful suggestions that you left, which we have acted upon. Best wishes, K&J Property Owner

About the location

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
