"Dangerous steps, especially on the landing and in the bedroom."
Uncomfortable beds. Dirty oven. Washing machine broken down on arrival.
-
"Great location in the village near pubs & cafes."
Peaceful garden. Good appliances, wifi etc. Leaking shower dripping through to room below. Mattress a bit hard. Avoid if allergic to feathers or dogs.
-
"We enjoyed our stay at Hope Cottage, the house was large for my wife and I and our three small doggies."
BTW. Thank you so much for allowing us to bring our three dogs. The location of the cottage is perfect, close to all amenities and hikes whilst being away from the busy main road.
-
"Loved our week at Hope Cottage."
Perfect location, lovely and quiet, located near to a lovely bakery and proper country pubs. The garden was lovely and our dog quickly leant where her grass was. The only slight improvements could be a little maintenance to the path and hand rail leading up to that grass as it was dangerously slippery when wet.
-
"We have stayed at Hope Cottage several times & on every occasion we have had a fantastic holiday."
The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you could need, extremely comfortable & cosy & immaculately clean. The welcome basket is a lovely touch too. The cottage is tucked away in a very peaceful location but still very close to all of Castletons' amenities. The added benefit of having off road parking is a great bonus. Great place & we have already booked again for next year. Thankyou.
-
"Fabulous cottage in an amazing location, the attention to detail was excellent."
The one negative we had was the uncomfortable mattress in the main bedroom, other than that probably the best cottage we have stayed in. Many thanks
-
"We'll equipped and tidy house, exactly as described."
The boot room and heated floor in the conservatory were welcome features coming in after a long hike in the rain. The coffee maker with plenty of capsules, biscuits, prosecco and milk were thoughtful extras that made our stay special. Castleton is a good location with all the facilities you'll need.
-
"We spent an amazing week at Hope Cottage over Easter."
The landing took a bit of negotiating with a few steps around the single bedroom. When we phoned Fiona about a leak from the bathroom , she was round the following day to fix it. Great area with lots of walks close by. The welcome basket was a lovely touch. Thank you

"Our second time staying in Hope Cottage."
This is a beautiful cottage and it’s in the centre of the lovely village of Castleton. A handy parking space which is fantastic. It’s cozy, nice hot showers, log burner, nice kitchen and very well thought out with dogs in mind. Excellent underfloor tiled floor in conservatory, ideal for damp dogs after using the handy hose outside. Lovely bedrooms and quality bed linen. Nice little welcome pack and fresh tulips. We will definitely be back again. Love the cottage and the village, the walks and excellent variety of pubs and cafes in village all serving delicious food. Can’t think of anything negative. Thanks
-
"A lovely week in a really lovely cottage and garden."
Safe for the dogs.

"Best accommodation stayed in so far with sykes"

"Our second stay at Hope cottage, lovely welcome pack and the house was warm and cosy despite the freezing temperatures."
It is in an excellent central location with all facilities you could want. Dog friendly with a decent sized garden for the area. Everything has been thought of to accommodate walkers. My only suggestion would be to reduce amount of furniture in downstairs lounges.
-
"Absolutely stunning cottage, loads of plates,cups/mugs,utensils,glasses,cutlery,pans etc."
Lots of space.Would highly recommend to all. The welcome basket was a lovely start to our holiday.A dressing table to sit at would be great in one of the bedrooms. Better quality mattresses would be a huge benefit too. Beautiful cottage in a stunning location.
-
"The cottage is lovely and cosy very central, we managed to fit 2 cars on the drive, it was spotless and very well equipped, loved the extras like the welcome basket, the Bluetooth speaker was good to have and the underfloor heating in the conservatory was great, only a few negatives, there was no TV in the snug eventhough it shows you one on the pictures which we could have done with it to escape to, the roasting tin is too big and doesn't fit in the oven, the grill pan has no rack and would have preferred some normal size wine glasses, it is a little too clutted as every shelf and draw is full it would have been nice to have been able to use the storage in the snug for our shoes, hats and things also the small double room had 3 draws full of spare towels again would have liked to use them as we were there for a week so had a lot of stuff."
But that said we have already booked for this New year we loved it and would highly recommend.

"We had lovey Christmas it was clean and comfortable."
Shame about the weather

"Hope cottage has everything you need."
It’s clean, comfy, warm and is in the heart of this beautiful village..We have stayed here multiple times and will definitely be back again soon
-
"Thank you! Lovely quiet, cosy cottage in an ideal location with easy access to great walks, pubs and places to eat."
The conservatory is perfect for playing board games on a wet day, and we’d definitely recommend Sunday lunch at The George.
-
"This was a great little cottage ."
Nicely set out and really homely . Great location and quiet . The cottage is well looked after and once you get the open fire going is really warm . The only issue I would have is that the blinds in the snug are difficult to lower and that the extractor fan over the hob needs looking at as the buttons are loose and a light is missing . Apart from that the family were very impressed and I will definitely look to hook this location again . The welcome basket is very nice and makes you feel welcome .
-
"Fantastic cottage nestled in the heart of Castleton."
Lots of great walks off the doorstep and plenty of pubs and restaurants to choose from. The cottage has everything you need and is very comfortable. It is a real gem and we will definitely be back!
-
"A superb cottage."
The place is immaculate and has everything you need for a great holiday. The attention to detail is commendable. Great welcome hamper too. Thanks for everything.
-
"Hope Cottage is probably one of the best-equipped cottages we have ever stayed in."
It had everything you could possibly need for a home-from-home stay. Fiona was very helpful when I had a couple of queries. The cottage was lovely and clean on arrival and the welcome pack was a nice touch. The village is brilliant for walks from the doorstep and had the added advantage of having plenty of pubs/cafes/restaurants if you didn't feel like cooking. We had a fantastic week and I know it will be a holiday we will always remember.
-
"This is our fifth time staying at Hope Cottage."
Lovely cottage in a great location. Lots of local walking and Castleton has everything you need - great breakfast spots, pubs, chip shop and bakery. The cottage has everything you can possibly want and is very clean/well presented. We will be back again and would recommend this cottage to everyone!
-
"Beautiful cottage very well equipped and maintained."
Very dog friendly. Ideally located in the village of Castleton with its many pubs. Lots of walks straight from the cottage so we hardly used the car. We will definitely come back.
-
"An excellent property."
Location & description very good - supplemented by extras such as soaps, welcome box etc which were appreciated & made the holiday - despite the poor weather - enjoyable.
-
"Very comfortable superbly equipped cottage with all you could want in an excellent location."
-
"A lovely homely cottage in a great location."
Really well equipped and comfortable for an enjoyable stay in the Peak District. Plenty of walks from the village and nice places to eat and drink. The only slight disappointment for us was the garden which doesn’t seem to reflect the photos shown on the website. It doesn’t appear to be well maintained. The top lawn area was really overgrown and the patio is in need of some TLC, but overall, we had a fab time.
-
"It's a great holiday cottage."
Everything you need, nicely furnished, well equipped, nice garden to relax in, secure shed to lock your bike in........... It's well placed in the lovely village of Castleton, just away from the busy town centre, where there is a great choice of pubs, and a couple of shops to get your provisions from.
-
"Our third time at hope cottage, like home from home."
Will definitely book again soon.
-
"A gorgeous, cosy, centrally located cottage, with EVERYTHING you need."
And I mean everything....tin foil, q tips, cotton buds, washing powder, dishwasher tablets, mending kit, toiletries...we didn't have to buy a thing! We loved it, and so did the dogs! So it's a 10 out of 10 from us, and we intend to return again next year. The pubs are all dog friendly and the scenery is stunning. You have views of Peveril Castle from the cottage. The only minus, is that the driveway access is a bit tight if there's a car parked next door and you have a largish car. However, nothing can be done about that! It's one of the best cottages we've ever stayed in, if not THE BEST.
-
"A perfect place to spend holiday time."
Loved it all. Ann and Bill (Dogs)Florence and Myrtle

"This is our third stay at Hope Cottage."
Wonderful cottage in a superb location. Many thanks to the owners for a wonderful holiday home. Sure to be back next year.
-
"Warmly welcomed to this most comfortable and immaculately presented cottage, absolutely everything was catered for and with the added bonus of off-road parking made Hope Cottage the perfect holiday getaway."
The weather was a little unkind, this made the welcoming comfort of Hope Cottage worthwhile. We are already making arrangements for booking again in 2024. Many thanks to the owner, we were delighted with Hope Cottage.
Dear Ron, thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are both so pleased that the comfort of Hope Cottage made up for the Derbyshire weather. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2024. Best wishes, Ben & Rob Property Owner

"Amazing! What a absolute gem of a cottage."
It was so well thought out with walkers and dogs in mind. Clean, comfortable beds, lovely rooms, excellently equipped and a generous little welcome hamper. We had a lovely week at Hope Cottage. We wanted to stay forever and we’re sad to leave. It was so warm. The owners certainly don’t skimp on the heating, which was greatly appreciated. The underfloor heating in the conservatory was fantastic. Our little dogs absolutely loved it. Especially good to come in around the back door to take off boots/shoes. The boot brushes outside and the hosepipe again… great for boots and dogs.. then straight into the conservatory to dry off. Castleton is beautiful. Lots of pubs and cafes. Lots of excellent circular walks from the village meant we only used our car once. Thanks for a holiday that will live in our memories for years. We have already booked up to go again next March!
Dear Rowanne, thank you for taking the time to post such a lovely review. We are over the moon that lots of memories were made during your stay in Hope Cottage, that's what it's all about. We hope to welcome you back in the future to make more! Best wishes, Ben & Rob Property Owner

Such a warm and cosy cottage with everything provided that I could wish for, plus more. Extremely clean and lovely touches such as the welcome hamper, especially the dog biscuits- much appreciated by my two chaps, really nice toiletries, and a very well equipped kitchen. Spotlessly clean and everything you would need for a wonderful holiday. So many lovely touches. The welcome pack and the beautiful flowers. The little jars of shampoo, body wash and conditioner were much appreciated. We have stayed in lots of holiday cottages but Hope Cottage is the only one we have returned for a second time. We are sure to come back next year. A big thank you to the owners.

"Fantastic on all fronts."
One of, if not, the best holiday cottage we have stayed in. Spotlessly clean, very well presented with high quality furnishings and highest quality appliances. A true home from home. Dog friendly, truly secure garden. Off road parking a huge plus in the village where on road parking is the norm. Great central location but quiet at the same time. Owners very clearly go the extra mile to provide a great guest experience. We will definitely return.

The cottage was very well equipped & the basket of goodies on arrival was gratefully received. Fantastic location, right in the centre of castleton. The conservatory is a great feature to the property & we sat in there every morning for breakfast. Our black Labrador especially enjoyed exploring the garden. Highly recommend a stay at Hope Cottage.

"Hope cottage is lovely."
Small but warm, comfortable and welcoming. Very well equipped, the owners really had thought of everything including a welcome pack. Eating breakfast in the conservatory was delightful. The garden was pretty secure for all but the most adventurous dogs. (I have adventurous dogs which can jump, I stayed in the garden with them at all times - there is a cat living on the terrace above!) Being within walking distance of so many lovely pubs was a holiday in itself. We had a wonderful holiday.

"Nicely placed cottage."
The welcome pack is a really nice touch. We chatted to a couple of people whilst eating out who made a note of the cottage name to pass on to friends. An added bonus is that it allows dogs, so we will probably return when we get ours in a couple of years.

"Small but mighty!"
Super well appointed cottage with everything we needed for a wet week in the hills. We stayed with three adults, two kids and a dog. The owners were very generous leaving welcome gifts and plenty of tea towels, hand towels, dishwasher tablets, detergent and cleaning products which when you have a family are essential. We ate at the restaurant 1530 twice and a few of the pubs in the area. The cottage couldn’t have been more perfectly located with a fabulous route to Mam Tor literally on the door step. Just remember to duck your head if you have a tall person staying or take a hard hat this is a traditional derbyshire cottage! You won’t be disappointed with your stay. Thanks to Fiona for a lovely time and sorry we were a bit late in leaving we totally underestimated how much stuff we had!
Dear Charlotte, we are so pleased that you feel for the charm of Castleton and Hope Cottage. It really truly is a special place with something for everyone. Please do come and stay with us again soon. Best wishes Rob & Ben Property Owner
