  • "We had a brilliant holiday at The Old Workshop, it was very clean, comfortable and warm."

It was well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. We loved the idea of the upside-down set up. The only thing I'd like to mention, is the mattress on the king size bed was very soft, but I'd like to point out that this is an observation and not a complaint, everyone has different idea's of a comfortable mattress. It was in a perfect location and would highly recommend. Mick & Violet. North Tyneside.

We had the bedroom to the right hand side of the stairs. It was damp. The bedding was damp. The pillows were damp. It smelled foisty. The window on the bathroom was dirty and had cobwebs on it. The shower needs re-sealing as there a lot of black mould areas. The towels were probably new at sometime in the distant past. Good for exfoliating. Unable to take pictures of damp bedding surprisingly.

  • "Great location in the middle of Castleton but the cottage was a little disappointing."

A bit of dust and a few cobwebs, no hand soap, lack of instructions for heating, washing machine, etc. The bed in main bedroom was terrible - the mattress is so old that it no longer offers any support.

  • "The Old Workshop is a lovely place to stay in Castleton, the perfect place to rest after the long rambles in the High Peak we were doing."

Its location in the village is ideal, close to pubs, shops and Peveril Castle. Fantastic, clean interior space with big, airy kitchen and living room upstairs, both well appointed and stocked with all mod cons; we loved the kitchen’s long wooden table, and the living room’s big sofas and fully-stocked games cupboard. The two en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor had comfortable beds, well-fitting curtains and indulgent bathrooms. Heating was easy to control with the Hive handset, so we never felt cold despite the chilly English summer weather. Thank you for making our Peaks visit so comfortable!

Walks from the doorstep. The only negative thing I would say is that although we had parking, you can't get out if the neighbour also parks their car, but we worked it between ourselves. There are 7 pubs in the village, we ate in most of them through the week, can honestly say we never had a bad meal. We didn't do as much walking as we wanted due to the weather but we didn't expect great weather due to being March, we will have to come in the year

  • "We enjoyed our stay at The Old Workshop."

It is in a great location in the centre of town, meaning it is only a few minutes from all the amenities and many pubs. It also makes a great starting point for some wonderful scenic walks. Parking is at a premium in Castleton at busy times of the year, so being able to park two smallish cars (with difficulty and care) is a godsend. The accommodation was clean and generally well-equipped, though there are low doorways, so mind your head! The rule about not being allowed to take other guests back seems Draconian. We were there for New Year when the weather was bad and some friends were staying in another location – we were unable to bring them back for a coffee or a game. If we had known about this rule, we would not have chosen the property. The choice of a very small bath, rather than a shower, in the master bedroom en-suite, seems bizarre and a tremendous waste of space. I am 6" 3" and could hardly get my legs covered with water. Getting out of the bath, would also be extremely difficult for many.

The scenery was amazing. We enjoyed our stay in this traditional cottage. A few repairs need to be done - a new door to the bathroom, maybe a bigger shower room and back door was stiff to open. We would definitely stay in the Cottage again it was great and the welcome basket was a nice treat.

  • "The main issue with this property is that the listing on the website is inaccurate, as it states that you can park at the Bulls Head Inn car park which belongs to the owners."

This is not the case and the landlord of the pub is not impressed when you arrive looking to use his parking facilities. The cottage has a very small car parking space and you will rely on next door not having a car or moving for you when you want to get in and out. The cottage itself is comfortable (although there are several minor maintenance issues which need attention e.g. loo roll holders off the wall, loose cupboard hinges) and in a brilliant location, although the village gets very busy at peak times. When we advised the owner that the Freesat was not working, he arranged for it to be repaired at the earliest possible time, so he is very receptive to helping out with issues. All in all, we had a very enjoyable week here.

  • "We have just completed five days at the "Old Workshop", and really enjoyed our stay."

We are a mixture of ages 17, 50, 80, and 85, so it is difficult to please everyone, but it managed to do quite well. On arrival the Cottage was lovely and warm, and a lovely welcome pack just what we needed after our long journey in the rain. It has a large spacious lounge, seating six adults with ease, beautifully decorated and clean, with a view from the rear window of Pevril Castle, being upstairs was different, and may be a problem for some, but we managed well, being positioned in the heart of Castleton is a bonus for those who cannot walk far, and compensates for the limited views from the windows. The kitchen is also very spacious, and has everything you need (except a dishwasher), which would be a luxury to us anyway, the microwave position would be easier and safer to use at a lower level, specially for an older person. The double bedroom was the smaller of the two, but cosy and adequate, the bathroom and shower were adequate and worked well, but it was small and the shower was a little difficult to get into for the elderly. The second twin bedroom was much bigger, and an on suite attached was a nice extra, although it was a bath not a shower. Parking can be an issue, luckily we have a small Saloon car, and next door had a larger Saloon, so I did manage to squeeze in and out without disturbing them, however if you had two SUVs or larger Saloons, you would have to juggle to get your car out, which you need to be aware of, we managed ok, but parking on street is difficult. Apart from the points mentioned, the weather was very kind to us and we had a very nice stay and would return.

  • "Hello, lovely property and location."

Great to be able to park to. We would like to come back, what would be keeping us at the moment from doing so is the quality of the mattresses in both bedroom. They are old and completely sank on the smaller room you can feel every spring. It is ok for one night or two but prohibitive for a longer stay. Would highly recommend to change the mattresses

We loved our stay there and would consider a return trip. Loved the upside down layout of the cottage, particularly as it was hot. The bedrooms remained lovely and cool and one of the best showers we have come across. So many great walks from the front door and lovely pubs close by. The only possible issue is parking. You share the driveway with the next door cottage and there really isn’t room to drive past another car to get in or out. Not a huge issue as I understand you can use a very close pub car park but good to know I think. Overall, I would definitely recommend the cottage.

Well equipped and spacious with a lovely welcome package of milk, butter, bread and biscuits. Tea coffee and sugar were also available. Castleton is a delightful village. The cottage description mentioned a washing machine and tumble dryer which we presumed was in the shed but we could not get access so some explanation about this is necessary. It would be good to be told that maps and walking guides are available in the sideboard drawers because unless you ratch around you are not going to find them. A bit more storage for food would be good as two top shelves in the kitchen cupboards is no good if you can't reach them. just needs re-organisation of the cupboards. We really enjoyed our stay.

Exceptionally well equipped with high quality furnishings and fittings. Castleton is struggling with Covid restrictions and not all of the 8 pubs serve meals every day, due to shortage of chefs!! The shops and cafes also have strange opening hours, but I'm sure once restrictions are lifted, the village will return to normal working. Castleton is a fantastic village, and The Old Workshop couldn't be better placed right under Peveril Castle! Absolute beaut spot, and was perfect base for exploring the Peaks. If the villa next door is also occupied then parking can be a bit tricky especially with larger vehicles, but the Bulls Head is 90 seconds walk, so not too many issues there. The set up is interestingly planned out with bedrooms on the ground and living/kitchen upstairs. The cottage is modern and recently been done up, has all the amenities you need and is a great space to relax after a long day exploring. Only thing missing is a fire, but the Hive heating system was really quick and fast acting. Would deffo come back.
