Main issue we had was the very slow internet and poor phone signal that shouldn’t really be a problem in this day and age. Cleanliness was very good but would recommend a regular kettle descale as it was not good when we arrived. Only other comment would be to replace the tin opener as the one supplied didn’t work very well. Would end by saying we had a lovely time and enjoyed our stay immensely.

Thank you for your feedback, we have new kettle now! We only know items are not working when guests inform us, so thank you for the information regarding can opener, if you had contacted me during your stay I could have replaced it sooner. Property Owner

  • "In summary a delightful clean and very comfortable cottage ideally situated for exploring the White Peak cycle trails plus many old and interesting buildings such as Haddon House."

We booked for a week of comfort and peace and quiet to cycle some of the High Peak Trails. The Stables delivered in spades. Which is more than can be said for Sykes, Sue, the very very helpful owner had not been told of the booking but fortuitously was around when we called on arrival at around 6.00pm as the cottage was locked with no key to be found. The cottage is spotlessly clean, simply but beautifully decorated and appointed with delightfully comfortable beds and pleasantly cool low tog duvets. The kitchen is well kitted out with everything you would need for self catering. If I had to carp sometimes less is more, the need to get to grips with programmable microwaves and coffee makers is sometimes not conducive to relaxation, simple microwave with timer button and power level plus a cafetiere would suffice for us. The underfloor heating was a very welcome bonus but being cold accustomed Scots we found it too much in July and it seems a shame to waste energy but we resorted to opening windows. Sue was extremely helpful and pointed us to local shops the winner of which is the well-stocked Londis in Altons, Colin pointed us to Dimmingsdale walk (not accessible friendly) and the delightful Ramblers Retreat at the start of it. Access to the various trails is good and we enjoyed the Tissington and Monsal with their excellent cafes at various points. If you think of visiting the lovely Haddon House I recommend you sign up to Historic Houses beforehand - you will recover nearly 50% of your £102 joint membership with free access to it and many more interesting buildings for the year. Lastly - it was refreshing to find a hive of industry at JCB in Utoxeter with a lovely pond and sculptures to walk around.

  • "We have a lovely time in the cottage, it was extremely comfortable and well equipped."

It was clean and well stocked with cleaning products should we need them. The owner was helpful when we had questions and demonstrated her knowledge of the area and what to recommend. The only issue we had was the heating. Who knew that May would be so warm? We were unable to alter the heating upstairs so we were very warm at night. I am always wary of opening windows near farms - but in the end we did. Not sure if letting the heating out though is sound. Apparently, if we altered the temperature in the room it would alter the heating of the towel rail. The radiator valve was not working. The owner offered to look at this but we didn't like to disturb them in the evenings when they were available. I hope the valve can be fixed. There were plenty of towels although bath towels a little small. We also wondered if there could be restaurant, local amenities, pubs, walks recommendations in the cottage itself. Sue knew loads but no guarantee that we would see each other. We do our own planning before arriving but some ideas, flyers in the folder would be helpful. Overall, though we had a very comfortable stay. thank you.

Fab location and VERY clean. Well equipped kitchen and nice extra touches. Underfloor heating was a lovely treat. Beds were rather uncomfortable. Not much support for your back. None of us had brilliant sleep. Bridle and horse collar tack hanging in the lounge is a nice touch for obvious reasons but the bridle is going mouldy and really smells bad. Its not too pleasant to sit by it in the evening.

It’s a beautiful cottage. The owners had a Christmas tree up which was a lovely touch. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It is beautifully furnishing and very comfortable and had everything we needed. However, we couldn’t figure out where the thermostat was hidden as we would of wanted it a tad warmer. I couldn’t call the owners direct from the cottage as I didn’t have reception, but as it wasn’t too much of an issue and we were only staying the weekend. The accommodation was very good, clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The only negative I could think of was perhaps consider putting a mirror in each of the bedrooms, my wife commented that it was hard to see while drying her hair, as the only mirror was in the bathroom and the hair dryer lead wasn't long enough to see through to there. Lots of thought and investment has been put into modernising an old property. The kitchen facilities are excellent and the beds are comfortable. One drawback, which is not mentioned in the advertising, is the disappointing aspect to the rear of the cottage - farm rubbish and discarded implements, with part of a tin shed obscuring the very pleasant view.

We briefly met Sue and her husband who seemed very nice, caring people. A couple of very small things that would have made it even better:- My wife would have liked a mirror near to a three pin socket in the smaller bedroom to help her dry her hair. A kitchen bin for recycling items would be useful and you need to be careful with the hot water coming out of the kitchen tap.
