"We had a great week here, cottage was well equipped with everything we needed."
There is a garage available too which we used to lock away our bikes.
-

It provided a comfortable and relaxed home-away-from-home for our family’s first visit to Peak District. We look forward to our next holiday there!

"Lovely house in a great location."
Very clean and well equipped property. Hired a bike from "Bike Garage" just the other side of road so we didn't need to use the car once we had arrived. Very close to Hathersage for some shops. My second stay at this house and will be using again.

"We had a lovely few days in this very clean, comfortable and well equipped holiday cottage which has plenty off street parking - a real must for us."
Very much a home from home - the owners have thought of everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Excellent location for exploring the Peak District with plenty of walking from the doorstep including the Thornhill Trail to Ladybower Reservoir which is a pleasant and easy stroll. Close to Castleton and Hathersage and the National Trust Longshaw Estate is worth a visit and only a short drive away. Nice walks within the estate and we also enjoyed a walk to Stanage Edge from the site via Burbage Rocks. Would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to make a return visit.
-
"A great place to stay whilst visiting our families in Sheffield and Manchester."
A perfectly located, roomy and a very well equipped cottage with walks from the door! Lovely!
-
"We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in this lovely well-equipped house in its ideal secluded location."
The owner, and friendly neighbours readily suggested many good walks and places to visit. Highly recommendable

"Loose Hill Lea was great for our week's holiday, well kept and well equipped."
A good location for walking, and handy for public transport.
-
"The property description says there is a bath but I think it should make it clear it is a very short bath at only 4ft 6in."
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you were not able to enjoy a bath as you expected to. We have now placed a photograph on the website to show that our bathroom has a P-shaped bath and shower. Property Owner

"Everything fine, apart from kitchen resources."
No washing up liquid, or cleaning brush, sponge. Apart from above an enjoyable stay
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you had an enjoyable stay and will want to visit us again. We are sorry on this occasion washing up liquid and brush were not provided. We trust you were able to use the dishwasher for most of your dishwashing. Property Owner

"Comfortable house, warm in cold weather, with good parking and WiFi in a quiet location for walkers to enjoy the area; local walks in the Hope Valley and lovely National Trust Longshaw Estate."
Beautiful scenery driving through Winnats Pass to Buxton. Ideally situated for many attractions we also visited Eyam and its plague museum, Bakewell, the Monsal Trail, Thornbridge Hall gardens and Lyme Park. On a very wet day we went by rail to Sheffield to see the art galleries; the railway station is a convenient 12 minutes walk from the house. We had a great time despite the weather.
Thank you for all the tips on places to visit. We hope you will be able to stay in our cottage again. Property Owner

"What a fantastic property."
Ideally located in a quiet cul-de-sac sac just off the main road. it's very easy to find and very convenient. The property was spotlessly clean. It is a large semi detached house with 3 sizeable bedrooms and a large living room/dining room, with plenty of space for us. It is very well equipped. The garden was a real bonus considering the heatwave. We hope to book again.

"Our second time here and just as good as before."
This spacious house is excellent. Would recommend it anytime.
-
"Fantastic house in a small hamlet in the peaks."
Very spacious, comfortable rooms with a very well equipped kitchen. It was nice to have a dining table to seat 6, that we were able to utilise. We had snow while we were there and were kept warm by the efficient heating. Plenty of walks right from the door and I would recommend the cafe over the road by the farm shop for a coffee or lunch. Had a lovely few days away with our family. I would not hesitate in recommending this property for rental.
-
"The property was perfect for us (6 adults), it was very clean, big rooms and had every essentials in the kitchen."
The location was great too as the local shops and petrol station only a short drive, Bramford is only 9 mins drive and Monsal and Chee Dale was only about half an hr drive, other great locations in short driving range too. Really enjoyed our stay!
-
"Excellent location and house."
We found the facilities extremely comfortable and relaxing. There were four of us in two double bedrooms with plenty of space to rest and relax. The area is ideal for a peaceful holiday, with lots of walks from the door, easy local shopping while just a short drive to the wonders of the Peak District caves and city of Sheffield.

"EXCELLENT PEAK DISTRICT ACCOMMODATION Loose Hill Lea is ideally located for enjoying the very best area of The Peak District being only a few miles from both Hope and Castleton."
The house itself is situated in a very peaceful location at the end of a private road in the delightful hamlet of Shatton just two miles from Hathersage. The property is extremely well equipped, in particular, the kitchen where there is everything you need for self catering. Any instructions you need are readily to hand and couldn’t be clearer - in fact the best we have seen whilst renting many other properties over numerous years. The owner was very helpful when we contacted him. We used the CH first thing in the morning and during some evenings and it is not only efficient but also heats up the house exceptionally quickly. We love this area for the fantastic walking and will have no hesitation in re-booking Loose Hill Lea on our next visit to The Peak District. Highly recommended.
-
"Overall satisfactory experience."
Disappointing response when contacting owner regarding some household supplies ie: no washing powder and replacement bin liners provided. No offer made to provide these during stay. Bathroom size very small, no pictures provided on website!
-
"Great house, plenty of walks from the door."
Great facilities for storing several bikes. Felt very clean and covid safe.
-
"Ideally located."
Quiet, perfect for walking holiday.
-
"Nice house in quiet hamlet."
Shatton is a short drive from Castleton, Hope and Sheffield. The house was very clean and thought had been given to ensuring it was Covid safe.
-
"There was a lack of communication on your part."
I tried to contact you several times beforehand via email but no one responded so I had to call in the end. The cottage itself was nice but there were a couple of things I need to mention. There was no cafetiere to make fresh coffee. There was a note to say that several surplus kitchen equipment had been removed due to Covid but I consider a cafetiere an essential piece of kitchen equipment. The condition of the baby cot was quite bad, we were unable to put it up properly as some the bars were bent and there was no mattress to speak of, it was just a thin layer of foam. The kitchen and bathroom were clean but there were quite a few cobwebs all around the cottage.
Thank you for your feedback. We rely on all feedback to maintain and improve our standards. We are sorry that you had difficulty in contacting Sykes Cottages to make requests and changes to your booking. We encourage all guests to contact us using the owner contact numbers if there are any concerns or problems during their stay at Loose Hill Lea. We have placed a new fully dishwasher-safe cafetiere in the kitchen and will replace the travel cot with a more permanent cot. Unfortunately, cobwebs are a perennial problem for everyone, especially at this time of the year and when windows are left open to enjoy the fresh air. Sometimes they seem to appear as quickly as they are cleaned away. Property Owner

"We had a lovely week at Loose Hill Lea."
Three adults and two children. The house was super clean and tidy. There are walks starting from the door. Plenty of places to go out for breakfast and dinner. Be aware that the curtains are a little thin, so children wake v early. At home we have blackout lining. Otherwise, highly recommended.

"The bedrooms are massive but the beds are small doubles and the quilts are barely big enough even for the beds."
They were simply too small to be comfortable for either of the couples using them. The bath would not have been usable by any of us as simply tiny! Also, when staying and paying for 3 nights I would expect sufficient toilet roll and dishwasher tablets to be supplied, but in both cases there was insufficient. If we are expected to bring our own, I would like to be told. Apart from these shortcomings , the house was warm and well equipped and its location is good.
We are sorry the beds did not meet expectations. They are standard double beds with standard sized sheets and duvet. The bath in reference is a shower bath and we have never received negative feedback regarding the size before. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact Sykes Cottages. "This cottage is well equipped, comfortable and in an ideal position to explore the area."
It was very quiet although just off the main road. There are lovely walks from the door as well as a bit further afield. The owner was very helpful and we would definitely book the cottage again.
-
"Lovely cottage in beautiful part of the world."
Lucky to have great weather this visit. Can thoroughly recommend this cottage.
-
"Really well equipped house in a perfect location with walks from the doors."
We will be back!
-
"This was an excellent cottage, spotless clean, quiet, near to buses should you need them, walks from the door, and the weather was brilliant for the time of year, would go there again."
-
"This cottage is spacious and has brand new modern bathrooms and kitchen."
It’s immaculately clean and very well equipped. The photos on the website do not do it justice! The setting is ideal. At the end of a small private road so no passing traffic. Lovely walks from the door, great views from these walks. Very quiet yet only a minute away from the main road between Hathersage and Castleton. Highly recommended.
-
"The house was lovely, really nice location with good facilities"
-
"Fantastic house for 6 of us on a walking/cycling holiday."
Very clean and modern inside with a well equipped kitchen and plenty of hot water from the shower. Would definitely stay there again.
-
"Really lovely cottage with all you need."
Was clean and tidy and they had plenty of advice around about local things. The mattresses needed replacing though and were very uncomfortable, you could feel the springs digging into your side. A better mattress would have made this a perfect property.

"Loose Hill Lea is a spacious, comfortable semi-detached house."
It was exceptionally clean when we arrived and it had everything that we needed for a stay of 2.5 weeks while we were moving house. The owner was easy to contact and was very helpful and flexible when we had some difficulties associated with our house move. The house is very well located for a quiet, peaceful holiday. There are some very beautiful walks direct from the house - along the banks of the Derwent, up the old Railway line to Ladybower Dam and Loose Hill, up the track to Bamford Edge and Offerton Moor. The local garage has a mini-mart (10 minute walk) with a reasonable range of food including fresh bread and pastries. There is bike hire from the garden centre (5 minutes walk). All in all an excellent spot for a holiday.
-
"This property was clean and had every thing we needed supplied, the house was in an excellent spot for visiting the area, within a couple of miles from the Peak cavern, Speedwell Cavern, and Castleton with its castle and quaint shops, Lady Bower Dam was close and Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock were within a short drive all this in some of the most beautiful scenery in the country."
-
"Not having used Sykes Cottages before, and having a bad experience with another agent in the past, we were perhaps a little anxious when we arrived - but we needn't have worried."
The house was very clean and tidy, it had everything that we could need and plenty more besides, it is light and airy and a perfect base in the Peak District. The positioning is ideal for the Hope Valley with so much to see, so close together. Stannage Edge, Mam Tor and Winnats Pass are a must for walkers and there is a very pleasant stroll from the house, alongside the river and over to Hathersage.

About the location
SHATTON
Hathersage 2 miles; Castleton 4 miles.
Shatton is a delightfully manicured hamlet nestled at the foot of a hill, surrounded by walks and beautiful countryside, between Hope and Hathersage, in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The picturesque village of Castleton is just four miles away, home to fascinating caves, and is overlooked by the crumbling Mam Tor or "Shivering Mountain". From the remains of the hill fort at the top of Mam Tor, the dramatic scenery of Winnats Pass, Edale Valley and Edale itself, known as the start of the Pennine Way can be viewed. Visit Hathersage to explore the churchyard and the grave of Little John (of Robin Hood fame) - whether he ever really existed is for you to decide, plus Hathersage vicarage is thought to be the inspiration Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre. For a village of its size there is a very good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool and a railway station with direct links to Manchester and Sheffield. Slightly further afield you can potter around the historic market town of Bakewell, or the Spa town of Buxton, renowned for its spring water and Opera House. It is easy to spend a whole day at Chatsworth House, while there are plenty of historic properties nearby. Pull on your boots and enjoy the spectacular scenery, with walks for all abilities from ambling along the banks of the River Derwent to climbing the hillside paths and scrambling over the fascinating rock formations. Play golf at the Sickleholme Golf Course just a mile away, or explore a web of cycling trails, with bike hire available on the Monsal Trail and at the Derwent/Ladybower Reservoir. A beautiful base for exploring the Peak District!
