  • "Marsh Cottage sits in a quiet corner just outside of the hamlet of Stanton."

Nearby facilities are a short drive away. It is well equipped but could do with some extra cutlery and plates, between the four of us we needed to turn on the dishwasher every day or do a hand-wash. Lounge is very comfortable. Bedrooms are spacious - beds a bit too soft for our liking and door between second lounge and kitchen not closing properly. Bathroom also spacious and comfortable and quite nice to have an extra downstairs loo. The adjacent yard with shed, bungalow and caravan apparently do not belong to the cottage and were visited a couple of times by two men, tinkering on some thing or other and keeping themselves to themselves. Plenty to see and do nearby or a short drive away. Very happy that dishwasher tablets and toilet paper were provided as well as a welcome bottle of wine, flowers and biscuits.

  • "Good value, well equipped."

We had some difficulties finding the property in the dark. A "Marsh Cottage" sign by the roadside would have helped. Access to the village along small lanes requires 3 miles single tracked roads - a large SUV needs to squeeze carefully through passing places, and a small car bottomed out on the cambered track (but you expect that in the Perak District!)

  • "Really lovely place, very quiet and relaxing."

  • "The cottage was beautiful in a fabulous location for exploring the Peak District and surrounding areas as well as an exciting trip to Alton Towers, just a 12 minutes drive away!"

! The only issue we had was a lack of WiFi, as promised on the listing, other than that a fabulous cottage well maintained with some surprise extras such as tea, coffee, milk and biscuits.

  • "Marsh Cottage at Stanton Derbyshire is extremely comfortable and set in a beautiful and peaceful surround."

Our week of being re-united with two friends was and is one that we shall treasure. The only small criticisms are that the oven on the cooker was two low for comfort of use and there was no key for the front door to be used in case of fire. Adrian & Mrs Mellor the owners were extremely helpful Keith & Gill Wallace highly recommend this holiday let.

  • "Lovely cottage out in the country."

Very comfortable and everything you needed. The only thing I would change would be directions to the cottage. We found the best way to the cottage was via Dale Lane (the turning for Thorswood Farm Shop) off the A52, then onto Town Head, then right onto Marsh Lane, past the church. With the other route the road is extremely narrow with no passing areas.

  • "Our second stay in this lovely cottage."

It is very comfortable. It was a bit chilly inside when we arrived and took a while to warm up once it was warm it was great. This cottage has everything you need for your stay. The garden is nice and there is more than ample parking. The cottage is sited off a fairly quiet country lane. Others have mentioned the lanes being narrow but we didn't find them too bad, generally we came in via the A52 near the Thorswood Farm shop. A good base for exploring the area.

...tea, coffee, biscuits and flowers to welcome us. Surrounded by grass-munching sheep on misty fields. So peaceful. A perfect retreat from which to explore the beautiful Derbyshire Dale's.

  • "We loved our time at Marsh Cottage."

The setting is beautiful and peaceful-it was so lovely to be surrounded by the sheep and cows. The cottage is comfy with everything we needed and plenty of space for the kids (they loved the snug and the garden especially). Lots to see within walking or driving distance and spoilt for choice with farm shops nearby! All in all a wonderful holiday.

  • "Just before our holiday started we read a recent review so left home with some trepidation."

Totally unnecessary. The location was fabulous, exactly what we wanted, on its own along narrow winding roads. Fabulous countryside and walks on hand. Cottage is comfortable and inviting, had everything we needed in the well equipped kitchen and an ample provision of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, cloths ,tea towels ,bin bags and toilet rolls All the things you don’t want to have to pack to take or run out of during your stay. The decor and furniture is comfortable, exactly what we wanted. We don’t want to be surrounded with designer furniture and carpets when you feel too uncomfortable to relax after a long walk. Our stay was helped by an amazing weeks weather.

  • "We would like to make the following observations: Location: There are only three roads into Stanton, and two of these are single track lanes, with few passing places, many twists and turns, and steep inclines."

During our stay, because of heavy rain, there was also a lot of debris and gravel on the road, the edges were crumbling, while the few passing places had become a muddy quagmire. Visitors should be warned about this, as well as the fact that many local people drive 4X4s at speed along these narrow lanes. Furniture: The upholstered furniture in the two sitting rooms is old, tired and grubby-looking, as are the cushions. Bathroom: There are a number of unpleasant and unsightly stains on the bathroom floor, which is extremely off-putting. Garden furniture: The garden furniture is old and uncared for, as well as being placed in an area that rarely sees any sunshine. One of the slats in one of the benches had been replaced by a slat that is half an inch proud of the others. There was a general air of neglect typied by the hanging basket. Wi-fi: We had a problem with the wi-fi on arrival. For some reason, when it was working, it would only allow one device to connect, although we entered the correct password on each attempt. We notified the owner, who said that this hadn’t happened before, but she didn’t get back to us to find out how we had got on. In fact, if we hadn’t have phoned her, we would have had no contact at all during the week. Friends who use Sykes regularly were shocked and surprised when we told them about our experience – and we were disappointed, given your reputation. We did take some photographs but cannot attach them to this feedback form.

  • "Lovely warm, quiet, comfortable cottage in the country."

Only sheep for neighbours. Lovely enclosed garden. Plenty of parking. Comfortable sofas. Great central heating. A little bit tired decoration wise. Slightly dusty around the edges(skirting boards ect) I'm guessing time was used to ensure the cottage was disinfected for Covid-19 therefore it was very clean where it mattered all surfaces were very clean with lovely clean bed linens. I want to move in!

  • "Great cottage and had everything we hoped for."

Very rural location so what we expected. Very clean and spacious. Only downside is we asked whether we needed dishwater tablets and toilet roll etc and were told no. However 2 dishwasher tablets and 4 toilet rolls doesn’t last a week for a family for 5 so we have to search for supermarket to restock when we would have brought some from home. Again though, small issue in a great place.
