Every facility you could wish for. Lovely bedding and some nice welcome gifts. Never visited Tideswell before but it’s a beautiful village with lots of places to eat and walks in all directions. We did Tideswell Dale through to the Monsal Trail, also the Longshaw estate. Stunning scenery and fairly easy walking. Overall a super relaxing weekend, walking, playing games and eating far too much. (I’d suggest some earplugs if you’re a light sleeper as the church is gorgeous but the bells are loud!)

Perfect for dogs, great enclosed outdoor garden and can sit out on raised garden in 2 areas. Kitchen Aga is fab experience hearing the whistling kettle, making toast, trying the ovens a must. Lovely welcome touches for both us and dog, so much provided when we opened fridge nice surprises and lovely cake on a stand waiting, tea coffee sugar, all your washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets all there in abundance ! Not many cottages are so well equipped. Plenty cosy space and chairs to relax both downstairs in kitchen and dining area and also upstairs in lounge. Showers are great powerful proper showers ! Even dog has his own shower outside with warm water !! Beds so good and comfy and bedding duvets and pillows and towels really good quality and perfect. Everything has been done to make the cottage like home cosy comfortable and of great quality. Great pubs and restaurants in Tideswell and even slightly out. Recommend the Star, Sals Italian, Anglers Rest nearby. Loads great walks in area Parking was never an issue …majority of time we were right outside and had 2 cars and if not there is plenty space along the road and also a free car park in the market square right next to the cottage. This is a really quaint quirky place to spend your holiday and highly recommend. The owner has written a welcome book with loads useful info eg how to use the Aga etc and you can tell just from reading it when you arrive how welcome you are

  • "We are just back from a wonderful holiday at Billy Whiskey's."

Obviously Derbyshire is a great place for a walking holiday, but Tideswell is a super place to access all it has to offer. It's super friendly and has a variety of proper shops and cafes, along with a well stocked Co-op. The cottage itself is perfect. It manages to combine history and character with modern expectations. We were a mixed aged party of 6 and everyone felt there was ample space to either come together or have a bit of peace and quiet. I thought the kitchen sofa, next to the window and pavement, might feel a bit exposed, but in reality it is a lovely place to sit to watch the world go by. The kitchen is equipped to the standard you might expect at home. Lots of different sized, good quality pans, serving dishes, utensils etc. It was great fun getting to grips with the Aga and lovely sitting around the farmhouse dining table in the evenings. We didn't eat out, but there are at least six different options within easy walking distance if you want to. The owners have got everything right. I wholeheartedly recommend Billy Whiskey's.

Only addition that could improve facilities would be a washing machine. Kitchen facilities extremely good. The best arrival goodies we have ever had anywhere. There is so much to do in the area and local people are extremely friendly, which is not always the case. Thank you! PS apologies, one wine glass was broken whilst drying up

  • "The house was exactly, if not better, than the description."

It was a delightful mix of the age and history of the house with modern comfort and facilities and spotlessly clean. The welcome package was very welcome (I'm assuming the vase of dead flowers was an oversight, not a coded message). The unseasonable weather prevented too much use of the garden but, when the opportunity arose, it was a lovely spot to unwind. The lack of dedicated parking was not an issue given the availability nearby. The house is ideally located to make the most of the village and the village itself ideally situated as a base to explore the variety of the Peak District. Overall an extremely enjoyable stay and one we'd be looking to repeat.

Wonderful countryside and a thriving village centre with everything anyone needs nearby. Buxton and Bakewell only a few minutes drive. I know the area well from living in Sheffield a few years ago, but it was great to re visit The cottage of very well managed, with quality decorations and contents. The only downside is that the big front window and glass door lack a little privacy as they are directly onto the pavement, but that's just a feature of the village and I appreciate that the intention was to show the buildings shop history. I would stay there again and would recommend it.

  • "Excellent location."

The accommodation was clean and tidy. It was well equipped. Parking was easier than we had anticipated as there are virtually no yellow lines and we could park outside on many occasions. The downside was certainly the Aga which we couldn’t control the temperature as the remote didn’t appear to work. Also the steepness of the stairs to the second floor caused us some difficulties. All in all we enjoyed the holiday there and the rain was anticipated although not welcomed!

The cottage was beautiful, well equipped, cosy and had plenty of room for us all. The beds were comfortable, everywhere was spotless, and bathrooms modern & showers great. The Aga was something none of us had used before, but once we got the hang of it, it was great & added to the country cottage experience, it was also great for drying wet walking clothes & boots! Our dog was well catered for too, with plenty of bowls, blankets & biscuits left for her. The little garden perfect & secure. Hi Anthony, thank you for your comments. We are currently working on converting the store room to a utility room, so hope to have a washing machine by the end of the year. The AGA is always on which is great in colder months but sometimes not ideal in very hot weather, although it can be turned down to low when not in use. • "Overall we loved the house, the quirky layout is great and worked really well for us."

Everywhere is really comfortable it's clearly been thought through with furniture choices, it's very well equipped for self catering and the decor is lovely with lots of great features and very tasteful choices. The location is easy to find and perfect for exploring the glorious surrounding area. However, there were two major issues that mean unfortunately we have to mark the stay down. We brought our dogs with us and upon arrival we checked the upstairs garden to make sure it was safe for them to be in. It all seemed fine and we let them into the garden for a little stretch after the journey. One of them leapt over the part of the wall just after the decking on the right hand side. She was on the roof above the driveway and, as it was raining, she slipped and fell from height onto the neighbours drive. Luckily, she is a young dog and thankfully was ok, but this is a very dangerous area of the garden. The makeshift fence is not sufficient and we would like to recommend that this issue is addressed for future visitors as it’s potentially dangerous, particularly if a child was in the same situation, they might not be as lucky. The other major issue was that we struggled continuously unlocking the front door from the inside. This needs to be looked at as it is potentially a very significant fire hazard as the only main route out of the house. My elderly mother couldn't manage it all and we had to leave it unlocked most of the time when we were inside. This door also prevented us from reaching what we thought was a dead or seriously injured dog in good time as we couldn’t get to her following her fall. Due to the delay in reaching her she panicked and ran into the road, thankfully luck was again our side with the through traffic meaning she was scared but uninjured. These are not cosmetic or superficial issues, they are health and safety issues we must insist are taken very seriously and attended to with urgency.

Hello Catherine, thank you for leaving a review of your stay. I’m so pleased to hear you loved the style of the cottage and its location. I was sorry to hear of two issues which arose during your stay. Firstly that you had an issue with the front door lock. A locksmith has now replaced the mortise lock. It’s obviously not possible to predict when locks are going to fail, and had I heard from you or Sykes I’d have arranged an emergency locksmith to resolve the issue immediately. Secondly, that one of your dogs escaped the garden. I’m relieved to hear your dog was unhurt. The majority of our guests bring their dogs with them and I’ve not heard of a similar issue before. In saying that, I do of course take your feedback seriously and immediate measures have been taken to secure the area where the stone wall is lower to prevent this issue happening again. We love to welcome four legged friends to Billy’s and their safety is important to us. I hope these two issues didn’t overshadow your stay and that you were able to enjoy the cottage and all Tideswell has to offer. Thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner

The owner, Andrew, did everything he could to ensure that our stay was perfect, especially for the toddler. On arrival, the house was warm and bright with Christmas tree lights and decorations. There was a sumptuous welcome hamper as well as milk and butter in the fridge. The whole house felt 'friendly' and we soon settled in. The aga stove was a challenge but became a firm favourite with me, everything tasted so much better somehow. In spite of the very wet weather, we found brilliant walks for the dogs, a Monsal Head circular being my personal favourite. Also, the Chatsworth Christmas experience was magical and loved by adults and children alike. I really cannot think of anything that would have improved our stay but if I could, I don't doubt that Andrew would go above and beyond to satisfy our wishes. Thank you so much for our wonderful Christmas! We will be back if you'll have us.

Beautifully furnished , comfortable beds. and sofas. We even had the option of fresh bedding and towels for the second week. Having the choice was great as form an eco point of view people can choose what is required and not wash things unnecessarily. The kitchen was fabulous and very well equipped. There was also a basket of welcome goodies for us and wine biscuits Bakewell tart and fresh bread and milk. There was plenty of literature about the local area including guide books and walks. There were even 3 brand new standing fans which were very welcome as we arrived during the heatwave. Although there is no private parking this was not a problem at all as we could always find a space. Andrew checked in on us via text to make sure we were comfortable too which was a really nice gesture. There was no washing machine which would have been useful but we were aware of this when we booked so came prepared, but apparently there will be one soon. (Certainly not a deal breaker.) Apart from the cottage being superb, the village of Tideswell couldn't be faulted. Cafes, pubs, Coop, chemist, greengrocers, butchers and fish & chip shop. Also close to Buxton with lovely walks and bike rides from your doorstep, and everywhere seemed very dog friendly. The Star inn which is opposite had to be our favourite. Nestled in the heart of the Peak District National Park in the small village of Tideswell, sits this impressive cottage, Billy Whiskey's.

Enjoying a blend of rustic and contemporary features, this historic property is a former shop dating back to 1729, and takes its name from the first shop keeper, Billy Whiskey.

The property has been thoughtfully renovated and now offers families and friends a pet-friendly dwelling and wonderful base to explore the countryside.

Leave your vehicle in a roadside space before making your way inside to discover the shaker-style kitchen, with an AGA cooker to whip up heart-warming meals.

There's also a sitting area with a cushioned sofa and wall-mounted TV to relax with a cold beverage whilst dinner is cooking.

Adjacent, you will find the dining room with an exposed stone wall and beams; here you can gather together for meals and enjoy a pack of cards for some family fun.

Climb upstairs to the first floor to unwind in the sitting room, where a woodburning stove gently heats the space as you relish a glass of wine.

The first floor leads out onto the rear garden, so why not carry the conversation onto the outdoor decking, as your furry friend stretches out in front of you?

As day draws to night, retire inside and sink into the tub for a bubble-bath, as the Velux window reveals the night sky.

Next door, is the master bedroom, hosting a king-size bed and to discover two more bedrooms, venture to the second floor for another king-size and a twin bedroom, serviced by a shower room.

In the morning, awaken tired eyes with a steaming cup of coffee in the garden, ready for a day of exploring.

Just paces away is the local pub, The Star Inn, where you can sample real ales and home-cooked meals, or pop into the convenience store for your own ingredients.

Jump in the car to visit local attractions, including Eyam Museum to learn about the Plague, stroll along the wonderful Water-Cum-Jolly Dale and test your stamina on an incline walk up Mam Tor.

Visit the Spa town of Buxton; here you can enjoy live entertainment at the grand Buxton Opera House, if that's not for you, delve underground into the two-million-year-old Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park.

Also, within easy reach and worth a trip, is the town of Bakewell to taste the renowned Bakewell Tart at a café or tour the stately home of Chatsworth House.

To treat the ones who mean the most, stay at Billy Whiskey's.
