"An ideal location in a beautiful village with several pubs, a lovely cafe and a beautiful church."
Cottage is small but warm and comfortable. It was a squeeze getting 4 of us around the kitchen table but we managed! A stock of books and games for rainy days. Lots of walks from the doorstep.

"An excellent cottage in a wonderful location."

"Tideswell is a lovely village and is centrally situated for access to all parts of the Peak District."
The cottage was comfortable, well equipped and reasonably clean (although the lounge carpet is in need of a deep steam clean) and suitable for two people. I do think it would be a bit tight with four adults and the noise from the road, lorries from the cement works thundering past within a few feet of the door and even conversations from passing pedestrians might not be for everyone, particularly those with children, but we thought the property was good value for money and as such were ok with its limitations
Thank you for your feedback. We agree the cottage is ideal for two but we have had many guests who have had children or two extra guests who have enjoyed their stay. We are closing the cottage for a few days in October for maintenance and this will include carpet cleaning after a very busy season. So good to welcome so many guests to Tideswell. Property Owner

"Had a lovely few days in Tideswell Exchange cottage had all we needed for a short break Very clean and comfy beds"

"It is my second visit to this Cosy and homely cottage I mistakenly locked my keys in the cottage and the owners sorted me out very quickly and were so helpful and friendly."
I hope to go back. The only drawback is the traffic but nothing can be done about that. Plenty of eating places

"Great cottage - so well equipped and very clean."
Tideswell is a lovely village with a Co-op that’s open every day and a fab fish & chip shop. There are also a couple of pubs, an Italian restaurant and cafe. The cottage is in a great location for exploring the Peak District - we particularly enjoyed a circular walk we did from Castleton and one around the Chatsworth estate. Lovely short break.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay at Exchange cottage."
It was cosy, comfortable, and very well equipped.Tideswell is a lovely place to explore and there are lots of walks to enjoy right from the door. We will definitely return.

"Exchange Cottage was a lovely place to spend a few days."
The weather was cold and wet so it was really nice to come back from a day out in the Peak District to somewhere cosy, clean and comfortable. The position of the cottage in Tideswell is ideal for all the local amenities, shops, café, fish and chips, bakery and pubs. There are lots of places to visit nearby and some lovely walks, an ideal base.
-
"Very cosy little cottage in heart of Tideswell, which is an excellent base for Peak District, including some lovely walks that can be done from door, and with a bit of planning using local buses."
-
"The cottage was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and in a great location."
The kitchen, although small, was very well equipped. Also there were games, books and DVDs, lots of information and a clear detailed manual.
Thank you for your feedback, so glad you enjoyed the cottage. A couple of weeks later and you would have had new covers on the sitting room chairs.! We try and keep everything as comfortable as possible. We hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

"Delightful little cottage in perfect location."
If I was being really fussy I would say the bunk bed could do with a mattress topper just a little hard. The double bed is super comfortable. Other than that it was perfect
-
"A really nice cottage, with a homely feel."
Slightly quirky architecture on the inside, giving it a lot of character. The welcome folder contained useful info in a succinct way, which was perfect; too many holiday homes just leave appliance booklets to explain ultra modern technology - not what you want after a long and tiring drive. The kitchen was very well stocked with appliances and utensils and - oh sheer delight - a sink bowl and washing-up liquid! So many holiday homes forget those, too. There were some thoughtful details to make our stay even nicer, which we appreciated. The beds were very comfortable - even the bunk bed. Overall, everything in the cottage was as you'd hope (even better, in fact) except the sofa and chairs which unfortunately did not offer much support. However, these can be easily resolved, and might not be an issue at all for some families. The village itself is lovely, ideally placed and we were able to use its facilities without having to travel. The second-hand bookshop was a true delight, and the hairdresser on same road was perfect. We also managed to enjoy all three of the hostelries :-) The wider area is, of course, breathtaking. Definitely recommend.

"We really appreciated how well equipped the cottage was as well as the amount of information about the local area."
We would definitely stay again.
Many thanks for your feedback - we look forward to you visiting again. Property Owner

"Loved our stay at exchange cottage and will definitely stay here again."
A great base for lots of lovely walks. Very clean and comfy with the extra bits that made our holiday hassle free, salt, pepper, sugar and milk ☺️
Thank you for your kind comments and we look forward to welcoming you again. Property Owner

"Homely, cosy and clean."
Lovely walking area. Never moved the car. No cafe with indoor seating but plenty of excellent pubs and restaurants. Didn't care much for noise of passing traffic but lovely village and hope to go back.
Than you so much for your positive comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in Tideswell and hope to welcome you again Property Owner

"Great for two people - our adult son found the bunk bed a bit of a squish!"
We ate out so small dining table not a problem, but really not suitable for more than 2. Great location and lovely village with plenty of amenities.
We agree the table is small and have been on the lookout for something different that would fit in the kitchen for some time. Two is an ideal number but over the years we have had four guests or our own family managing to sit down to meals together. Luckily also there are so many nice places to eat near the cottage. The bunk beds were purchased as adult bunk beds and most people seem to find them OK. Glad you enjoyed the village and it's amenities. Property Owner

"Nice cottage, warm and comfortable."
Unfortunately there isn't a table to eat at for 4 people, but otherwise good.
Thank you for your feedback. We would agree that the table in the kitchen is not large, however many families, including our own (4) have enjoyed meals together at the table over the years. Glad you found the cottage comfortable and we hope you enjoyed your stay in Tideswell. Property Owner

"We were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay, especially being in the heart of the village."
Initially the shower wasn't working but this was fixed quickly on the day I reported the problem. The windows are very efficient but couldn't be opened by anyone with weak wrists/hands.

"We enjoyed our weekend in Exchange Cottage."
We didn’t meet the owners, but communications with them were both prompt and helpful. We, too, had difficulty finding the cottage. Reference to the cafe next door might help, but it might also put people off since walls are thin in old properties and we were aware of conversations next door. The property is well renovated and kept perfectly clean. The kitchen is very well equipped but the table is, indeed, small and seating four adults for meals would be a squeeze, so in that respect this is more a property for two than for four. The fact that it opens directly on to the path on a busy street makes for quite a bit of noise, but the central location is very helpful in other respects and the property is certainly delightfully situated for touring the area. The second-hand bookshop opposite was a real bonus! Now we know exactly where it is and what to expect, we’d gladly return if looking for a place just for the two of us.
Thank you for your feedback. We did update the new name of the cafe next to the cottage after the feedback from guests a couple of visits ago. However I realise the information we sent you probably predated the change. Glad you enjoyed the book shop and Tideswell's food event. Hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

"It would be good if you mentioned that it is next to The Roost cafe."
It was VERY hard to find the cottage or even where Queen Street begins and ends. The people in the post office don't know where it is. Some locals in H&D café were helpful. I have added it to Google Maps now so hopefully that will help. Some hooks by the front door would be good for hanging up wet or snow-covered coats.
Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear you struggled to find the cottage. We will check the information that we send out to all our guests to see if we can make things clearer. Useful point about hooks near the front door in view of the weather we have been having lately. Property Owner

"Very clean, very comfortable and well equipped."
The owner was also very helpful.
-
"The cottage was lovely, very clean, and well equipped."
However, the owners should have fitted bottom sheets on the bed instead of a flat sheet which was clearly meant for a single bed not for a small double.
-
"The cottage is ideally located for some local walks."
We were able to leave the car parked up and explore on foot. Tideswell is a lovely village and the locals are very welcoming. Our cottage was comfortable and homely. Extras such as milk, tea and coffee provided for our arrival were a lovely added touch. I would definitely recommend this holiday to friends and family.

"The house is in a great location."
Tideswell has lots to offer and is a great place to get out into the peaks. The house was very pleasant, clean and tidy but basic and probably suited for adults not children under 12. The house was very noisy from the neighbours the road and the shop next door. The house opens straight on to a VERY busy road with cars, heavy lorries and farm traffic from early in the morning. There is no safe outside space with this house and parking is not guaranteed near the house. We had children under 3 and the noise was very disturbing and they were woken up early due to the traffic noise.
-
"Direct communications with the owners was excellent & really prompt by email."
The cottage was really clean & all the additional COVID procedures were clearly communicated, understandable & well facilitated. The traffic on the road outside took some getting used to but had been explained so to be expected. Would definitely use this location again.

"Lovely cosy house and ease in using appliances, super village and area"
-
"Really enjoyed ourselves, loads to do and places to go."
Would recommend..
-
"A well equipped cottage (with full instructions for everything)."
We had no problems with noise (commented on in some reviews) - even in the bedroom facing onto the road. Through traffic does not go through the village and the buses do not run late. Tideswell is a good location for walking in the Peak District, at the intersection of bus routes. Exchange Cottage is ideally located in the village: close to the centre and the bus stops. Check bus times as they are not very frequent. We had 6 days walking in the area without using our car.
-
"It was so refreshing to get an email from the owners of Exchange Cottage within hours of booking, introducing themselves and giving further information (so much better than having to try and contact the owners a couple of days beforehand which seems to be the norm)."
Exchange Cottage is in a great location centrally located in the village with a cafe next door, a fantastic chippy a couple of doors down and a Co-op just around the corner. There were also buses to catch that stopped through the village going to Buxton, Bakewell and even Meadowhall!. The cottage itself was cosy with a comfortable bed and soft sheets. The main disappointment for us was the shower, as the water would suddenly go stone cold for no apparent reason. One shower was enough for this most unpleasant experience and this is the reason we would not return.
Thank you for your feedback. The problem with the shower was fixed very quickly once we realised the problem. The gas engineer who serviced the boiler had changed the settings. Apologies to our guests who were affected and we hope they will come again in the future. Property Owner

"The cottage was excellent for two people."
Comfortable and well equipped in every way. Being on the main road was a little noisy at times, but the location within the Peak district made up for that. Very close to Chatsworth, Monsal trail, Ashford in the water, Padley Gorge and many other lovely places.
-
"The cottage was lovely, with everything we needed."
The village is also a very good, and beautiful, base with which to explore the local area. Would highly recommend.
-
"A delightful cottage in the heart of Tideswell village that is immensely proud of its heritage."
Ideally situated for visiting all areas of the Peak District National Park. The owners have gone to great lengths to make the cottage homely and welcoming and there is an abundance of information on the surrounding areas to help plan your days out. Local shops and pubs are all within walking distance, plus a fish & chip shop and two cafes so shopping and dining out is very convenient.
-
"The cottage was in a great location in terms of accessibility to all main tourist places, however, I was shocked how busy the road was where the cottage was situated."
There were really huge articulated lorries going quite fast past the window, and I would have been nervous if my children were younger as there isn't much pavement. I am not sure if there is a quarry nearby but it felt wrong that such large vehicles were able to storm through a tiny village. I was also surprised to find out there was no outside space at all, not even a back door (not sure if this is even legal?). We didn't necessarily expect a garden but as a smoker, I had nowhere to stand outside at all, other than in the path of an articulated lorry! I am not saying that the owners should cater for smokers, it clearly says it is non-smoking, however, I would have made different choices if I had been given that information. Overall, the cottage was clean, comfortable and presentable and we really enjoyed our stay. However, I would not re-book due to those factors above.

"Lovely cottage in a great location."
Well equipped and cosy. It had everything we needed. Perfect for exploring the Peak District.
-
"We had a wonderful time."
The cottage was lovely and provided everything we needed plus more. We visited some amazing places and love Tideswell as it is central to where we want to travel to and has a wonderful community spirit.

"Exchange cottage was very comfortable and well equipped."
It is in a very central location in a charming village.
-
"Amazing cottage with even more than we expected."
Lovely little café right next door with an amazing locally sourced breakfast. Can't wait to come back again :)
-
"A brilliant holiday in a warm and cosy cottage."
Facilities were excellent and we wanted for nothing. Complementary bottle of wine was a lovely touch.
-
"When initially booking, I entered the specific dates I wanted to book."
However, the website is defaulted to emcompass a range of +/- 3 days to these days. This was confusing and resulted in different dates being booked. I had to telephone Sykes Cottages to rearrange, and whilst the staff I spoke to were lovely and very helpful, the website should recognise that if a customer enters specific dates then it should not automatically default to a greater range of date. As a first time user of the website, I found it awkward.

"Very conveniently position in village, with handy shops close at hand."
-
"Property was well looked after and very well equipped."
Extra touches of biscuits & toiletries was nice too.

The property
A lovingly restored, traditional terraced cottage situated in the very heart of the village of Tideswell.
Dating back to the 1700s, the cottage was once part of a shop, Chapmans of Tideswell, a newsagent and printing company.
During WWII, the rear part of the present-day kitchen was used as a telephone exchange, hence the name of the property.
Refurbished to a high standard throughout, great care has been taken to create a warm, comfortable holiday cottage in an idyllic location.
Offering well equipped accommodation with two bedrooms, the property is just a short walk from the amenities of the village, including excellent old pubs, fine local eateries, intriguing curiosity shops, and cafes.
With its central position in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and close proximity to Buxton, Bakewell and Chatsworth House, Exchange Cottage is the perfect base for a relaxing or romantic break.
