  • "The property was difficult to find better directions wold be from Station Lane."

We only have a small car and still found getting into the space very tight. The pillows were badly stained (no protectors), bedroom curtains very thin (not worn) let in too much light and made sleeping difficult. The pub is described as just over 1 mile but a very difficult walk (and we are seasoned walkers). It would be useful to have some bedroom storage and information on recycling.

  • "This property is not suitable for anyone with any type of disability."

What you see in the pictures are accurate inside but outside is u kept with slabs lifting weeds everywhere and you have to go round back of house to get key which was difficult in the dark rain. You only get parking for 1 car not 2 and the complete lack of storage for clothes is something else. The bathroom is dangerous with two door for some strange reason. The hills you have to walk to get to a shop or pub are only for the most fittest. Would be OK for a overnight stop but no more

  • "Enjoyed our stay at the button box."

Found it difficult to find and the access road was hard to navigate as it was full of potholes. It was very clean and tidy.

Bathroom needs a good clean around base of tray by toilet. Needs shelf in bathroom Needs drawers or storage in bedroom, we were there a week and had to live out of suitcase Oven needs a good clean as it smoked when we turned it on to warm up which set off the smoke alarm

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Button Box - a well equipped and comfortable cottage, in a quiet area, which we would highly recommend."

The only downfall we found was the parking, our car is only small, but it was still tight getting in and out of the space due to the caravan that is parked at the side.

  • "Needed a little place nearby family we were visiting and The Button Box was it!"

Small but perfect and a bit of a tardis to be honest...plenty of space (not so much in the shower when you're 6ft7 tho haha). It was quiet, even though surrounded by houses, and the views were gorgeous. For such a cosy place, it's still massively well equipped with everything you need, even thoughful touches like milk, bread, butter, little jams and some fresh orange juice....and we kept saying "we could live here"...thank you for a perfect little holiday....would love to return again soon.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the button box , the only improvement would be a small chest of drawers as nowhere to store toiletries bag , books etc otherwise it was very comfortable and the provisions left were much appreciated and thank you to the owner for promptly sorting the wi fi for us ."

Golcar is a lovely place with plenty of places to eat and drink , it's quite hilly but there are plenty of places to visit nearby using your car or public transport

  • "Modern detached bungalow style rental."

Great to have onsite parking. Hilly area, so a car is needed for most outings. If I were picky, a washing machine would be ideal for longer stays. Plus an information/facility folder would be of a real benefit. Thanks to the owner for promptly sorting out the WiFi.

  • "Throughly enjoyed out stay."

Owner was helpful & sorted the wi-fi out for us , I also mentioned about the ice box compartment on the fridge needed defrosting as we could just about get it open enough to get our food in. We felt that the decorating was looking a little bit tired & could do with a freshen up. The bed was one of the comfiest we have had to sleep in , with lovely dyck feather quilt & pillows. The only thing lacking in the bedroom was a chest of drawers or perhaps bedside tables with drawers , as there was a rail to hang your clothes but everything else had to be left in the suitcase. Overall we enjoyed our stay there.

  • "We had a really nice holiday at the button box, it was comfy and had all you needed."

I did suggest to the owner that maybe a clothes horse or a small washing line would be helpful. Would return again.

  • "Lovely little cottage."

The access to the cottage is along a lane that the neterance to is right on the corner of the street and is a tight turn into the laneso can be a bit daunting. There is nowhere to put clothes so living out the suitcase but that's OK. The only downside is the shower is tiny and difficult to get into if you are a bit large.

About the location

GOLCAR

Slaithwaite 1.2 miles; Huddersfield 2.5 miles; Holmfirth 7.5 miles.

Golcar (pronounced 'Goh-ker' locally) is a village nestled on a hillside crest above the Colne Valley, 2.5 miles from Huddersfield, alongside the River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Golcar played an important part in the Industrial Revolution as a weaving centre, and with its rich textile heritage, it now provides a delightful holiday base, made up of charming cobbled streets and local shops including an award-winning farm shop and restaurant, Golcar Brewery, a butcher, bakery, delicatessen and a range of inns and eateries. Enjoy stunning walks through dramatic moorland countryside, along river or canalside to the quaint villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden on the one side of Golcar, or right into the heart of the large market town of Huddersfield, with its excellent leisure facilities and its fine Victorian architecture, in the other direction. Spend sunny afternoons in the nearby historic villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden - with their collections of unique shops and independent pubs serving locally-sourced artisan delights. Titanic Spar is also a 10 minute walk away at the bottom of the valley, offering a range of swim, sauna and bespoke spa treatments all year round. The village of Holmfirth, made famous by BBC TV's Last Of The Summer Wine series is also well worth a visit, less than eight miles away. Just nine miles away is the popular town of Halifax and its stunning architecture where you can visit the newly renovated 'Piece Hall.' Golcar is also perfectly placed for those who are interested in art and literature; the Bronte's Haworth and Ted Hughes/ Sylvia Plath's Hebden Bridge being located just a short journey away. And if you want to brave 'red rose' territory (Lancashire) and learn about the life and work of the navvies (as features in BBC's 'Jericho, filmed just a couple of miles away) you will want to visit both the Saddleworth Moors and Britain's longest canal tunnel – 'Tunnel End Visitor Centre'; only five miles away. Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park; offering a wealth of wonderful outdoor activities amongst stunning scenery steeped in history and with numerous local festivals (Golcar Lily Day, Marsden Jazz Festival, the Cuckoo and Moonraking Festivals), Golcar provides an excellent base for your West Yorkshire getaway.
