  • "We had a lovely stay at Sycamore Cottage."

Very clean and had everything you need. Best welcome basket we have had so far. Fantastic views from all the main rooms. Very comfortable bed and nice shower, plenty of towels. Would recommend the Darley Dale Fish and Chip shop, but be warned; the large chips would feed 4. M&S foodhall, Sainsbury’s & Co-Op not far. For a lovely walk in woods with waterfalls & a small dam, turn left out of the cottage and keep walking to the end of Holt Road, our dog loved it. Thank you, Heidi, David and Ralphy.

Standard of cleanliness as always very good and very comfortable. If we could have had the weather that was forecast it would have been perfect but all in all a really lovely relaxing week.

The cottage was well appointed, though as per the description, there were a lot of stairs! A delicious welcome basket was enjoyed through the week. Small household needs were fixed quickly, via text message.

  • "Having recently stayed in a cottage in another part of the country and being distinctly underwhelmed, Sycamore Cottage was an instant hit as soon as we walked in the door."

Location was superb, with parking on the road out the front. And the view from the back of the house...........Wow!!!!!! Upon arrival, we were greeted with a lovely welcome hamper with nice bits and pieces inside, which was nice. As we explored the house, it was clear that the owners took great care and pride in their property, as it was all immaculately clean and everything well maintained. The cottage is located on the side of a hill which affords the spectacular views, but is not isolated and you are near all the amenities that Matlock provides. But once inside, it was lovely to settle in front of the wood burner and relax. Due to the nature of its location, the only thing I would mention is that access for the less mobile will be an issue, with lots of steep stairs to negotiate. That is the only thing I can think of that could be construed as a negative. The cottage is located within a stones throw of Matlock which has everything you need, but also is minutes away from being out in the wilderness with all the walks. Bakewell and Buxton are just up the road too. Unfortunately, due to family emergency, I had to leave 2 days early and my wife the day after so we didn't get to enjoy this wonderful cottage to the full, but we would definitely love to come back. This place is a credit to the owners and the owners of the last cottage that we stayed at would do well to try to emulate standards like they are here. All in all, a wonderful place to base yourself if you are in this neck of the woods.

Really warm comfortable place to stay. Bed is really comfortable. 3rd visit and looking to book again. Having stayed in quite a few cottages Miny and David have gone the extra mile to provide everything you could need, including a very generous starter bundle of goodies. Nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend.

  • "We loved our time at Sycamore Cottage - it exceeded our expectations."

It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm. Miny had clearly taken a lot of care in setting up the cottage, with every need catered for, and she provided a very generous welcome basket. Having the deck was fab, we wrapped up and spent time outside looking at the big sky (in February!). There are fab views from practically every window. Chatsworth and the wilder Peaks were in easy reach. Excellent VFM and highly recommended.

  • "This was a superb last minute find for Xmas."

The cottage is a real gem! Great location, superb views. Praise to the owners - the property has everything one could think of to make ones stay comfortable & the welcome pack was a real surprise! Our stay was taken during very bad stormy weather but we enjoyed everything the cottage had to offer - a good sized dining/entertaining kitchen, & a cosy lounge. Took advantage of lovely walks in the area when the sun appeared - would like to return in the spring/summer when one could enjoy the outdoor spaces more. Many thanks to Miny, plus, Peaches loved watching the birds soaring in the sky.

Very well equipped - good range of kitchen cooking equipment and appliances, supplies of pet towels, bowls and treats if required and a comfortable, spacious lounge with logs for the fire. The decked terrace off the lounge is a lovely place to sit if you get some sunshine. Bedrooms are both well presented with lovely bed linen, fluffy towels and stunning views across the valley. Would highly recommended a stay in Sycamore Cottage.

The extra touches were very welcome as was the welcome pack which was the best we have ever had. We could always get parked outside the cottage. You need to wave your hand at the light outside and it will come on for the steps, which were no problem with good rails. The steps are steep inside but also have good rails. Beds are very comfy. The view is magnificent, better than in the photos, if you get the weather. Contact with Miny was v. good, before and after visit. Would definitely recommend.

The views from all the rooms are beautiful. It was lovely no matter where we were we had a beautiful view to look at. It was also really comfortable and warm. The owner, Miny is really welcoming, I got a text as soon as I booked stating that if I had any special requirements to let her know. Never had that before and thought it a nice touch. She was also very accommodating when we could not leave at scheduled time due to snow. You know you are in a good place when half way through the holiday you are looking to see when you can come again. Highly recommend. Only extra advisory I would give are stairs inside are very steep and I wondered if it would be a problem with my long covid but slow and steady and I was fine.

The view from the property is amazing and like others have said you want to just stay there enjoying it and the amazing comfy beds but there is so much much to see and do (Matlock, Matlock Bath, Chatsworth, Heights of Abraham, Gulliver’s Kingdom, Hardwick National Trust …. The property

Settled amongst the rural greenery of Hackney, on the fringes of the Peak District National Park, between Matlock and Darley Dale, rests this charming two-bedroom holiday home, Sycamore Cottage.

Idyllically positioned for a group of four seeking a rural retreat, Sycamore Cottage enjoys easy access to a wealth of must-see sights and attractions, including the opulent stately home, Chatsworth House, Lumbsdale and the popular market town of Bakewell.

Descend the stone steps that greet you upon arrival, leading you over the threshold and into the handy hallway of your new home-from-home, where you can store your belongings with ease away from the main living areas.

Make yourself at home with a sumptuous spot in the sitting room, where you can flick on the TV and cosy up in front of the fire as your favourite show plays, before making your way through to the well-equipped kitchen to rustle up a hearty meal for four.

Put your muddy walking gear on a spin and carry the conversation outdoors, where you can soak in the last of the evening sunshine in the garden, backed by far-reaching views across the distant countryside.

When day draws to night, retreat indoors and climb the stairs to the first floor, where you'll be spoilt for choice between two delightfully-presented bedrooms, a king-size and a twin, each sharing access to the stylish bathroom set across the landing.

Take advantage of your position between Darley Dale and Matlock, where you'll find a wealth of local amenities on your doorstep; unwind following a day of adventure with a crisp pint in the beer garden at The Church Inn in Darley Dale, or treat your loved ones to an indulgent spot of afternoon tea at East Lodge in Rowsley. Albeit rural, there's plenty to see and do nearby, including Matlock Bath, Cromford Mills and the family-friendly theme park, Gulliver's Kingdom.

For those looking for a more exhilarating experience, Alton Towers is not far away.

Those looking for outdoor pursuits can venture into the heart of the Peak District National Park, where walkers and climbers alike will delight at the seemingly-endless network of trails available, including Jacobs Ladder and the hike to the summit of Kinder Scout.

With so much to see and do, Sycamore Cottage makes an excellent choice for a group of four seeking a retreat to Derbyshire.
