  • "A lovely cottage in Holmfirth."

A couple of minor things, cottage smelt of damp and be prepared to park and walk to cottage, need a small car if want to drop luggage before parking. On the whole we had a lovely stay, cottage is very well equipped

Thank you for your feedback, MaryAnn. I’m a little surprised about you mentioning a damp smell as I’ve never noticed that., and no one else has mentioned it. Thank you for booking. Property Owner

  • "Lovely comfortable cottage in a Great location."

Great communication from the owners. Loved Holmfirth and the bus service is excellent to some very nice surrounding villages. Pubs in village nice and friendly. Lots of options for eating out and takeaways ... recommend the chinese. Great shops for all manner of things. Parking is a nightmare as it's very busy with locals and through traffic so once you manage to get a parking space leave the car there as its best to use the buses like we did to get out and about. We will definitely return.

  • "We stayed at Kingfisher Cottage for 3 night for my partner's and sister's birthday."

I had stayed in a property several doors down in the past so already knew how beautiful the area was. Fortunately for us, Emma, the host made sure this stay was extra special. The property if just very comfortable and welcoming. Most places now have these stupid modern sofas and minimalist looks. Although Kingfisher isn't oldie worldy, it has large comfy sofas to chill out, fantastic kitchen and eating area with tons of glasses, cutlery etc. and very comfy beds. The access to the village is great (2 mins walk to the closest pub). The host recommended lots of restaurants and was really helpful with parking instructions. What a great stay. Thank you.

So glad you had a great weekend. Thank you for your feedback! Property Owner

  • "Perfect cottage for our weekend stay, would stay here again."

Host was very accommodating. Parking in the local area wasn’t difficult, only a £1 for 24 hours! Well equipped and comfortable Very quiet location as not on the main road. Thank you Emma

It was a pleasure to have you. Glad you had lovely weekend. I'm so excited that you saw a kingfisher!! Thank you for letting me know. Property Owner

  • "A stunning holiday let that was beautifully equipped."

The communication from the host was outstanding. The only downside is the difficulty with access. As there is currently scaffolding in place further down the access land, driving to drop bags was not an option. I think it should be made a bit clearer the challenges with access and how to use the back gate.

Hi Kate, Thank you for the feedback. We loved having you to stay. I agree the scaffolding is a nuisance, hopefully it’ll be gone soon! I will forewarn future guests until it goes. Property Owner

Emma is an excellent host and will make you feel really welcome. The only drawback is that there is limited parking by the cottage.

  • "Really comfortable, modernised cottage over 3 levels."

We did a lot of cooking (son has serious food allergies so eating out can be a problem) and the kitchen was amazingly well equipped. Set in a quiet spot beside a lovely river. You can’t park beside the cottage but we always found a spot nearby. We went with two older teenagers so that wasn’t a problem. Can’t recommend the cottage enough. There’s a lovely Victorian park just along the road near Huddersfield (Beaumont Park). We went down to Buxton and then Matlock Bath to ride the Heights of Abraham cable car. Matlock Bath was a great find, a beautiful ‘seaside’ town no where near the sea. Never been to the area before and I can highly recommend Holmfirth - lovely shops, cafes and bars. It also helped that our week was in the middle of a heatwave!

Hi Suzanne. Thank you for the lovely feedback and so glad you enjoyed your stay. It’s always a holiday extra special when you discover new places. It sounds like you had some great days out. Thank you for being super guests. Emma and Max Property Owner

  • "Kingfisher Cottage is extremely comfortable and very well equipped."

It is in a very quiet and relaxing location. The only drawback is the very narrow access lane and finding long term free parking on nearby roads. The book in the cottage makes clear only a SMALL car can really use the access lane - the web description needs to make that clear too. It was quite stressful reversing it in a Focus, despite having a rear camera, with proximity alarms going off the whole time. A couple of times we had to park in 1hr only spaces on the road and then move the car later to one of 6 places which were free and had no time restrictions by the Elephant and Castle pub. We've suggested having a small trolley in the cottage to help unload and load the car when it is parked on the road, and understand that will be provided in the future.

  • "Myself, my husband and our three children arrived at Kingfisher Cottage after a very last minute booking."

Emma had very kindly left us all some treats to cheer up after hearing about our previous holiday plans that got cancelled, which we all thought was a really lovely gesture. The cottage itself is absolutely gorgeous, literally couldn't fault any part of it! I think everything had been thought of and more. Everything was so comfortable, really is a home from home. The river out the front is beautiful, visited often by a heron & a friendly pair of ducks who got our attention by tapping their beaks on the front door! The town of Holmfirth is really lovely, there's many shops, eateries etc to cater to everyone's needs. We ventured out to the beautiful Yorkshire countryside which never disappoints. After what was a really stressful start to our family holiday turned into a really lovely week which we were all sad to leave. We would definitely recommend Kingfisher Cottage to anyone.

Oh Beth, thank you for such a great review. We were so sorry you’re original plans had fallen through but so glad you you chose Kingfisher Cottage. Property Owner

  • "Kingfisher cottage is a delightful place to stay."

My partner and I really couldn’t fault it. It was spotlessly clean, has tons of character, is a generous size with a great layout. The kitchen has everything you need with good quality appliances. The lounge is big but manages to be extremely cosy and the sofas are incredibly comfortable. The mattresses too are extremely comfortable. It is in a fantastic quiet and secluded location - just off the centre of holmfirth. We had a two year old with us and as a parent I would gladly describe the property as child friendly - he loved it! The hosts are just like the property - faultless. Thanks Emma!

Thanks, Adam. You were great guests, so glad you had a good week. Emma Property Owner

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
