"We love this cottage due to its location but it is a bit run down in places and obvious recent renovations were not finished."
Ie. Bare plaster in the kitchen and no skirting boards. But we still had a lovely relaxing week. The beds are very comfy. This cottage has a homely feel to it which we love.

"Property in a lovely, peaceful village."
Property was ok & fairly clean/comfortable, however parts of property had been very recently plastered but not yet decorated, which really didn't give good first impression when entering, which the owner did apologise for. Plastering aside, our biggest issue was the flies! Despite the owner giving us fly spray we could not get rid of them & this was problematic with keeping surfaces clean & food covered at all times. The milk & biscuits left for us was a kind & welcoming gesture, thank you
-
"Everything was great, the only downside was that our dog didn't like the wooden floor!"
Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
-
"Lovely little cottage, had everything we needed, and a good base for exploring the south of the peak district."
Only problem was the mattresses, they could do with upgrading, they were very flat and the noise early in the morning, but it is a working farm so to be expected.
-
"Great cottage in a fantastic location."
Made to feel very welcome. Perfect stay for our family of 4 and everything exactly as described. Thanks again and would definitely love to return at some point. 10/10
-
"Lovely area."
Cosy little cottage. Owner very friendly. Could do with some updating and a fresh coat of paint. WiFi was a bit slow but efforts had been made to improve it with a booster. None of this affected our stay. Had every thing we needed. We had a great few days. Would recommend.
-
"Myself and family had a lovely stay here and enjoy the fabulous Peak District."
The cottage is well placed and had many enjoyable walks with a trip to Alton Towers. The cottage suited our needs and was extremely clean, just the decor could do with a little update. The hosts are friendly and helpful and the cottage has all the amenities needed for a great stay.
-
"We had a lovely week in this cosy, tidy, well kept cottage situated in the beautiful village of Wetton."
Friendly owners and the gifts of wine and biscuits, as well as everything needed for that all important first cuppa, on arrival were very much appreciated Looking forward to returning for another stay :-).
-
"Lovely cosy cottage, ideal location, friendly owner."
Everything we needed for a week exploring the Peak District.
-
"Lovely little cottage in a stunning location."
On arrival we were greeted by Lindsay who couldn’t do enough for us. There was fresh milk, tea, coffee and biscuits waiting for us too. The cottage was clean, warm and cozy with a well stocked kitchen. Cracking pub in the village and just a mile from the beautiful Thors cave. Just make sure you do a food shop first as the nearest shop if 5 miles away!
-
"We enjoyed an excellent week over Christmas 2023."
The cottage was warm, cosy and had everything we needed. The owners made us feel very welcome. We hope to come back again one day. It is a beautiful area. Thank you for a lovely stay! The Aston family.

"A lovely cozy cottage, well equipped and very comfortable, a bit tired in certain areas but wouldn’t stop us coming back."
Very well positioned for walks across Wetton Hill and Thors Cave . We had an amazing week . Thank you.

"As a barn conversion the property is of average condition and was obviously done ..."
As a barn conversion the property is of average condition and was obviously done some time ago and could be due for an update However the property is situated on a working farm and quite nice to see the day to day running of this The property was quite cosy and was well equipped Wetton is a nice village but there are no local shops but a welcoming pub that serves meals prior booking is advised but do stroll round to the church hall at Friday to Sunday where there is a good menu

"The cottage was just what we wanted and more"

"We had a comfortable week in Stable Barn."
It was a great base to explore the surrounding countryside. The beds were very comfortable. The shower was a bit small and the wifi wasn’t very good.
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at stable barn, we found the accommodation cosy and well equipped."
The village was quiet and peaceful which was just what we needed. Our host Lindsey was lovely. Absolutely no complaints at all. We are already thinking of our next visit.
-
"We had a fabulous stay at the cottage."
It is very comfortable and well equipped, just what we needed. We'll definitely be back.
-
"We were very impressed with everything, location was fantastic, with plenty of different walks."
Stable barn was warm, clean, and very comfortable. Beds were very welcoming. The biscuits and milk were a lovely touch, and was needed as we had arrived too late for food at the local pub on the Sunday. No issues whatsoever, lovely stay and we would highly recommend it.
-
"Decently kitted out and surprisingly large cottage."
Perfect location for walking and the local pub.
-
"Loved our holiday staying on the farm and a really nice family The house was warm and had every thing you needed But feel the house needed some maintenance and a deep clean."
On the surface it was clean but quite dirty behind beds and generally in the house. Mould covering bathroom ceiling, I did mention this to the owner but he didn’t really seem interested. Said he would need to clean it but didn’t while we were there. Kitchen table too big for a small room and had a very loose top. The clothes maiden to hang towels on was old and rusty. Outside sitting area was a lovely sun trap but the outside furniture needed cleaning painting and repairing.
-
"Lovely cottage, cosy and well provided, and in a great location for walks!"
The only thing we found was that the heating didn't feel hugely effective - it got warm eventually but took a while, and we had to turn the radiators up quite high to feel any effect. Other than that, we had a lovely stay.
-
"The cottage Stable Barn had so much character, and location was just what was needed for a restful break."
Owner was friendly and welcoming, and the cottage warm and cosy...the beds amazingly comfortable! A lovely country experience of seeing horses walking past each morning and afternoon, quiet country lanes and ever such friendly local people. Tea rooms in Wetton itself, stop to delight in some homemade cake and a warning cuppa as you pass them directly on your way back to Stable Barn after a scenic walk and exploration of Thors Cave. Would recommend. Thank you from Nicky & Sue
-
"We all enjoyed our stay at Stable Barn, the area was quiet and rural with walks in the countryside, the pup in the village, The Royal Oak was excellent and the food fantastic."
The cottage itself was well equipped and had everything we needed including a larger than average TV. The bedrooms where comfortable and the cottage was warm having good heating. Off road parking is always an advantage.
-
"Cottage was clean and comfortable, everything we needed."
WiFi was not good, spoke to owner who gave us a booster, thereafter was good...bit noisy early morning, but can appreciate it is a working farm. Well situated for walking and exploring a beautiful area of England...lovely break but too short..thank you

"We enjoyed a lovely week at Stable Barn."
The property was clean and comfortable. Lindsay, the owner, could not have been more welcoming. My two boys had a brilliant time spotting all the animals. Wetton is a beautiful little village. I’d highly recommend the property and location.
-
"A fantastic cottage for a family of 4."
Everyone was so friendly from the minute we arrived. 10 minute walk from Thors cave which the kids loved walking to again on our last night at the Cottage. Perfect location to go on lots of walks cross the valleys. Highly recommended.

"Good location, nice sized kitchen, internet very slow"

-
"Lovely cottage in a nice quite village ."
With a good pub that does food . Cottage is Excellent for dogs and their owners walks straight from the door . The welcome pack of milk , biscuits and wine was very appreciated. Owner lives next door if there are any issues ..which we had non .
-
"Lovely location and great value for money."
Friendly, approachable owners. We enjoyed our stay.
-
"The cottage was spotless and the kitchen was probably the best we've had in a self catering cottage."
The linen on the beds smelt fabulous. It was unfortunate that following storm Arwen the previous weekend the Village was still on generators for electricity and the one serving the cottage stopped working at around 3pm on the Sunday - given that the cottage was all electric this meant no heating and therefore we made the decision to travel home early.
-
"Despite being advised by husband, you have failed to correct the contact 'phone number for keys (The wife died some time ago)."
Embarrasing for me when I phoned.
-
"Great location , owner very friendly and a genuine guy."
We also had great weather which was an added bonus . Would definitely return
-
"Honestly in all the years we have been staying at holiday cottages with Sykes both my children and I think this was the best!"
The cottage was perfect, everything we hoped it would be. The farm we stayed on was wonderful, really well managed, clean, organised and both the animals and the family were so friendly. The village itself is also beautiful-we had some great evening walks and really enjoyed a meal at the local pub! The location was perfect for my family too as we already had lots plans before we arrived of where we wanted to go and we found ourselves central to all of them. Will definitely be recommending this cottage and for the first time we are actually considering rebooking!!
-
"A very comfortable cottage in a beautiful area."
Extremely helpful host
-
"Owner very pleasant and helpful."
Lovely little cottage with everything you need -apart from Wi-Fi and mobile phone signal in cottage. The owner was helpful and loaned us a Wi-Fi booster which worked only if you stood in one corner of the lounge. However, this did not detract from a lovely holiday in a comfortable, cosy cottage with walks from the front door. Would stay again. Only improvement could have been a safe area to allow the dog to toilet. We had to put her on the lead and walk her all times of day and night, and she never had a non-lead outside time to release her energy! We will book again in the future.
-
"Great location, the owners we chatted with was really friendly."
The whole accommodation had everything you needed and the kitchen stocked all the utensils you would need. The property was always warm everything was exceptionally clean lots of fresh bedding and towels. Really quiet village which was nice. loads of places to walk to and only 15 minutes walk to Thors Cave. Kids really enjoyed as did we would definitely stay again.

"We had a great week at Stable Barn."
Our kids loved going around to see horses and explore the local area. The cottage was really warm as well. Wifi was reasonably fast which was really great with not much mobile network, and I managed to do some work on the day I had to. My dog also loved it. The nearest pub is less than 100m away, and was great too. I would visit again. These are relatively minor points but these could be improved to enhance holiday experience: 1) Their cooking utensils and pans are dated and could be replaced. The frying pan was small, not flat anymore, and I just managed to cook a meal for 4. Knives were very blunt. Having done a number of cottage holidays though, I may bring my own knives and chopping board next time. 2) The washing machine could be cleaned better. It was quite mouldy in the dispenser and the rubber seal. I used a dettol washing machine cleaner to clean it before using but wouldn’t have used it otherwise.
-
"Stable Barn is more dated than it looks on the photos."
A light bulb out in the lounge made it very dark. Shower cubicle very small. Not much room to move around and wash and the doors didnt close properly so the floor got wet. Quite alot of early morning disturbance near the property . We wondered who needed to ride a horse at 5 am and someone walked about with a strong flashlight which shone through the bedroom windows. WiFi signal very poor but the owners produced a booster router which seemed to do the trick.
-
"A great cottage, comfortable and clean with everything you need for a break."
Our time was well spent with walks in the dales, exploring the local towns and villages as well as a couple of thrill days at Alton Towers.
-
"The Stable Barn was lovely and comfortable and Wetton is the perfect spot to start walks in the Peak District from."
It is very handy to Thors Cave and you can find some lovely loop walks that vary in length and difficulty which all allow you to start from Wetton, so no driving required. We had the most relaxing weekend and this was largely due to having the Stable Barn as our base. From the minute we booked the host made contact and gave clear instructions about what would be different due to COVID, so we felt much more secure in travelling at this time. The accommodation itself was clean, the beds were comfy and the wine and biscuits went down a treat. Would highly recommend the Stable Barn.
-
"We had a lovely stay at the cottage."
The owners are friendly and helpful. The location is great, right in the centre of the national park. We had a fantastic holiday and really felt we got away from it all. It was well equipped and we felt we had everything we needed. The shower was hot and powerful, it was cosy and warm, the beds were super comfy, we couldn't have asked for more.
-
"Being on a working farm with all the horses, sheep etc was wonderfully relaxing."
The property host was wonderfully welcoming and helpful. The village location was charming. All in all a lovely break
-
"Positives ."
Overall it was great break - a lovely little cottage in a beautiful village and the owners were very welcoming Negatives. The sink in the bathroom was completely useless - no plug and very, very tiny. Would recommend replacing it with something deeper that you can actually wash in! Would have appreciated being warned that the daughter's horse was going to wake us up at 5am one morning walking around outside the cottage - there might have been a good reason why that happened but we weren't pre-warned or given any explanation or apology afterwards.
-
"Very cosy cottage, well equipped, and the welcome gift of wine and biscuits was very much appreciated."
Really well located for walking the Peak District.
-
"The cottage is in a central location in a quiet village."
There was little passing traffic so there wasn't a lot of noise. It is next to the farmhouse on a working farm so occasionally there will be a farm vehicle passing. The cottage was cosy, very clean and well kept. The owners lived next door and were very pleasant and helpful without being intrusive. For those who cannot escape modern technology, the mobile phone signal (on the Three network) was weak and the wi-fi signal was somewhat intermittent. A great holiday and we'd definitely use this cottage again.
-
"Wi-Fi signal was very weak and intermittent."
Water pressure in taps very low. Every thing else was very good and the cottage was very comfortable, all necessities and met expectations. Thank you
-

Lovely location, quiet and friendly village, new owners at the pub so food menu lacking its past quality, central to all we wanted to visit, overall very pleased, on the minus side little or no phone or internet signal

The property
This is a delightful little semi-detached barn conversion, on the ownersÂ’ working livestock farm on the edge of the very pretty Peak District village of Wetton.
On arrival, enter into the practical kitchen, complete with a dining table for enjoying a tasty evening meal.
Two steps down from the kitchen is a cosy sitting room, with stone windowsills and a full-length window looking out over the village, while completing this welcoming room is a warming woodburner-effect electric fire.
The staircase leads directly from the sitting room, arriving firstly at the cosy twin bedroom.
Then, take another three steps to the shower room and double bedroom to the left, again with a window for gazing out over the village.
There is plenty of parking available and a front courtyard with a bench makes a lovely spot for a coffee in the sun.
Wetton itself is a lovely little village, with a good pub serving food.
From Wetton, there are many varied things to explore, starting with a network of footpaths and the Dove and Manifold Valleys, which also have great cycle routes.
ThorÂ’s Cave offers an exciting opportunity for exploration and also has amazing views from the prow.
The village of Hartington is just five miles away, with a traditional village feel and a range of shops and places to eat.
Alton Towers is also less than half an hour's drive away, making Stable Barn just the place to enjoy the wide choice of different attractions the Peak District has on offer!
About the location
WETTON
Ashbourne 8 miles.
The tranquil, stone-built village of Wetton is ideally situated in an elevated position at the most westerly extent of the Chatsworth estate, above the valleys of Manifold and Dove, in the beautiful White Peak countryside of the Peak District National Park. Located off the beaten track, the village boasts a fine old inn and a 14th century church, with an external staircase to its belfry. The spectacular Thors cave, rising 360ft above the river Manifold with its 60ft entrance, has over the years yielded ancient bones and artefacts dating back to 600 BC, whilst the river itself provides excellent walks and cycling opportunities through wonderful rural scenery. The nearby, charming village of Alstonefield, situated on a limestone plateau 900 feet above sea level, has won the Best Kept Village Award ten times and is home to Hope House Costume Museum and Restoration Workshop as well as the excellent The George pub, enjoyed by visitors from near and far. Follow the Manifold Trail along the route of the old Leek to Manifold Light Railway, or visit the market town of Ashbourne with its narrow cobbled alleys littered with Georgian architecture, fine restaurants and antiques shops. A wonderful location for a relaxing break, at any time of year.
