We spent a delightful week at The Old Chapel which has been thoughtfully restored and is a compact, well-equipped and cosy place to stay. It has everything you need for a short break and is located in a beautiful spot with far-reaching views. Despite the weather, we managed to get out every day and see plenty of interesting places, of which there are many within easy reach. The owners, Mary and Stuart are a lovely, friendly and helpful couple who were usually accompanied by several chickens and dogs whenever we saw them! Thank you both for making our stay memorable. • "We loved The Old Chapel."

It was as cute and cosy as we hoped. Nice touches such as a recliner sofa, a starter pack of wood for the burner, homemade Bakewell tarts and the fairy lights on the beams really made it. The only thing that stopped me giving a full 5 stars was the bed. On the first night although the bed looked and smelled clean, we noticed several bits of long dark hair on the sheet, these couldn't have been ours. On the bed itself was a sprung mattress. We found it very disturbing to each other as the smallest movement from one of us, caused the whole mattress to move and wake the other of us. We thought it was like sleeping on a trampoline! We are used to sleeping on a memory foam mattress which deadens movement between the two sides but this one seemed extremely so springy! Other than that we loved our stay. We also appreciated that out host, Mary who lived next door, was really lovely and friendly and made us feel very welcome.

It was a real treat to find wine as well as milk in the fridge, Mary's delicious home-made Bakewell tarts and handcream as well as soap in the bathroom and downstairs loo (which was a bonus in itself - you don't usually get 2 loos in a cottage for 2!). We appreciated the lovely view from the cottage even more as binoculars are provided, also perfect for bird watchers to spot the many visitors to the bird table. The fairy lights around the beams added to the special atmosphere of the cottage and we looked forward to returning to a comfortable, cosy home after days spent sightseeing.

  • "This was definitely one of our best holidays ever."

The location is just brilliant - near enough to loads of attractions but still sufficiently detached to be peaceful without feeling isolated. The views are outstanding and bird-lovers will be in heaven. Despite one of the hottest spells for years, we were always able to keep the cottage lovely and cool. Visitors just need to be aware that there is a spiral staircase although this should be obvious from the photos. Definitely one to come back to, as the colours in Autumn would be amazing!

Has everything you could need and more, including tea/coffee/sugar/milk. Mary and Stuart are lovely hosts, greeting us with a bottle of wine and homemade Bakewell tarts. The cottage itself has wonderful character, the bed is super comfy, and the views from the patio are stunning, with easy access to many attractions locally. We would specifically recommend Crich Tramway Village, made to look like an old county cobbled village with vintage trams running all day. We will definitely recommend to friends, and will rebook ourselves!

It has a a panoramic view of the Amber valley and the wildlife on tap is a dream for nature lovers. The cottage itself is very cosy with all mod cons and a patio alongside, where you can enjoy the view and fresh air when the weather is fine. The Derbyshire Dales have something for everyone from quaint villages to busy little towns steeped in history.

The little garden with outdoor furniture was another special feature overlooking a magnificent view. I can't thank the owners, Mary and Stuart, enough for all they did to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The setting is amazing with pretty villages and walks around and driving distance of all Derbyshire has to offer.
