"We had a wonderful weekend at Wilstone Cottage as a group of 6 celebrating our 40th birthdays."
The cottage is probably nicer in real life than the photos - very clean and comfortable. The old doors and beams add a lot of character but make sure you pay attention to the 'mind your head' signs - we had a few bumps on the head going up the stairs! We had amazing weather so the immaculate lawn and outside space was brilliant and the views were stunning. We were extremely lucky to see the Northern Lights which made our stay very special and I'm sure the peaceful surrounds and lack of light pollution helped us take full advantage. The surrounding area is so beautiful - it felt a bit like the Cotswolds without paying the prices. Local village pub (The Royal Oak) is a short walk from the house and the staff were really welcoming. Great service and lovely food. The owner of Wilstone Cottage was super helpful and great at communicating including helping with recommending a walk etc. It was lovely to arrive to some flowers and cookies left by the owner as well. A memorable and very comfortable stay.

"The cottage was lovely but we were cold and there were no instructions on how to turn the heating on for longer and there was only one fire lighter and no kindling for the fire, which was disappointing."
Having to depart at 10am Sunday morning was far too early and we all felt very rushed.
The cake was a nice touch that we all enjoyed.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the cottage and the homemade cake. I’m so sorry to hear that you were cold during your stay. I did check the heating system was working correctly on your departure, as guests always find the cottage very cosy and snug. I did discover that some of the radiators had been turned down. I have since updated the information pack for guests, stating to check the radiators are turned up.

"Wonderful cottage."
Very spacious, lovely and warm, great location with the pub just down the lane and very close to Church Stretton for walking and shops.
Owner has clearly thought of all the little things needed to provide a home from home and touches like fresh flowers, maps, logs and a huge cake were greatly appreciated.
Only improvement I could suggest would be a hair dryer and outside tap to hose down our very muddy boots!
Hi Marian.
Thank you for your lovely review - I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay at Wilstone Cottage. I’m so sorry that you didn’t find either the hair dryer or the outside tap. The hair dryer is kept in the blue room in the drawer, and the outside tap is located on the back wall of the outside shed.

My only suggestion would be that in our experience milk and butter at least are normally in the fridge on arrival at a holiday rental. It would be especially helpful to find it at Wilstone cottage too, being that the location is so remote.
I understand the owner had literally just had a baby so maybe it was an oversight this time.

Remote but therefore very quite. Only birds, cows and sheep are your neighbours. Yes, it takes some time to get to a bigger road to get somewhere but we didn't mind.
We enjoyed the eggs and the cake that waited for us in the cottage. Rhiann is a great host and always there for questions.
And after a few days the beams and the steps are no longer a problem, you take them very easy.

"This is a really smashing property."
It's out on its own in gorgeous countryside with beautiful views all around and a big, safe garden for the children. Plenty of space indoors with super facilities. Good pub within walking distance. Friendly owners also came to check we had everything we needed upon arrival. A welcome package of home made cake and fresh eggs was also much appreciated. It's a character property so expect some 'duck or grouse' low beams, a quirky layout, many stairs and some poky bathrooms - but that's an expected trade off for all that gorgeous architectural history. The original timber frames, fireplaces and bread ovens are stunning. We're honestly struggling to find anything to criticise and can only suggest that the owners may want to replace some of the older kitchen pans and maybe freshen up some of the finishing touches (pictures, flowers etc) for a more sophisticated, cohesive décor throughout. A favourite moment was waking up in the blue bedroom to the sound of birdsong and miles of country views out of the two windows. This house is a bit of a gem, we loved it and would happily recommend.

"A lovely property, full of character and well situated for walking some of the best bits of Shropshire."
The cottage was as described and has magnificent views in all directions. It has been restored with great care. For us the only downside was it was that it was very cold on the first and second days although the radiators were on full. I don't think it had been occupied for a few days prior to our arrival and it had got very cold. Once we mastered how to light a wood burner it soon warmed up and then became cosy.

"Lovely cottage, comfortable and warm."
Just right for our family reunion. Plenty of room for 6 adults and a baby, in a lovely area. We easily parked 4 cars, and there was room for another one (however, they were all small cars).
Re-reading the description, I note that there is a warning about low beams and split level - however, before going I didn't understand what you meant by "split level" - ie that there were quite so many steps down and up into various rooms, also I think you should say that the stairs are pretty steep. However, it was fine for our party, and the baby can't yet climb stairs.
Another strange thing that I didn't mention to Rhiann (therefore wasn't a great problem to us) - but the water went off for a few minutes quite regularly (maybe once a day) - a bit awkward if you are in the middle of showering, and disconcerting the first time, when you don't know that it will come back again soon.

"This is a lovely comfortably modernised old cottage, standing on its own in acres of space, surrounded by low hills, on a charming sunken lane between the rather sleepy village (with its very tempting pub) and an impressive farm at the foot of Caer Caradoc (the top of which you can see from the garden)."
It has a big garden facing the fields and trees towards Wenlock Edge - it's gloriously quiet, much quieter than the valley over the hill to the west through which runs the A49. A delightful place to reach after the pains of motorway driving and city life! The cottage has lovely old oak doors and beams, and a perfectly preserved old baking oven. One of the best things about it is that you can go on some excellent hill walks straight from the front door - up Caer Caradoc, the Lawley hill, Hope Bowdler Hill, and beyond - from all of which there are wonderful views for miles around. The owner provides flowers, delicious eggs and cake as a welcome, and will probably call by and check you are OK. Our stay was blessed by good weather. Strongly recommended.

"Wilstone Cottage is absolutely wonderful."
It was spotlessly clean which was very reassuring in a Covid world. The location is absolutely stunning. Set in beautiful countryside in the rolling hills of South Shropshire, no neighbours other than the working farm up the lane, we were surrounded by new born lambs in the Spring sunshine, great walks and hiking from the door. Very comfortable accommodation with all mod cons, but in an historic cottage building with exposed beams and wood burners to make a cosy feel. The welcome cake and free range eggs from the farm were a treat too. Top tip - fresh organic milk straight from the cows at nearby Hatton manor farm on the way to Acton Scott farm museum is also a real treat. All in all our stay was a real tonic in the best of British countryside after lockdown. Highly recommended and five stars from us.

There's a wrap- around drive, and the gate closes and locks for complete peace of mind if you have little ones running amok. Inside there's loads of room; our family of 5 found it the perfect size, in fact quite ample. The two woodburning stoves were a big plus! The kitchen has everything needed for an extended stay. It was spotlessly clean throughout. The kids loved exploring the rambling layout, and adored the wardrobe in the master bedroom. We loved having basically a 'wing' to ourselves, with the children's bedrooms at arms' length down the hall - bliss. Rhiann was terrific in communication, and couldn't have done more for us. The homemade mince pies and farm fresh eggs were icing on the cake!
