  • "A very comfortable cottage in a delightful village."

Beautiful views from the garden. Would be a good idea to find the cottage on foot first, as Winster is a maze of little roads and paths. Access by car for unloading only near the cottage is feasible, but there is plenty of parking elsewhere. Highly recommended as a base for walking in Derbyshire.

  • "Lovely stone cottage in Peak District village of Winster with community shop, cafe and local pubs."

Excellent base for walking from the house and easy access by bus or car to nearby towns. Well equipped house for cooking. Very helpful owner who provided clear information.

  • "We recently had the pleasure of staying at the enchanting Ivy Cottage in Winster, and it was truly a delightful experience from start to finish."

Nestled in the heart of this charming village, Ivy Cottage provided the perfect blend of comfort, tranquility, and rustic charm. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the cottage's idyllic atmosphere. Stepping inside, we found a warm and inviting interior that combined traditional features with modern comforts. The decor was thoughtfully curated, creating a cozy yet stylish ambiance that immediately made us feel at home. The cottage was impeccably clean and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One of the highlights of our stay was the little garden, a private oasis where we could unwind and enjoy the serene atmosphere. We spent several evenings lounging at the table in the garden, soaking up the sun, and taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. It was the perfect place for outdoor dining. The location of Ivy Cottage was ideal for exploring Winster and the surrounding areas. The village itself is charming, with its historic buildings and friendly locals, and there are plenty of scenic walks and trails to discover nearby. We loved being able to stroll to the local pub and shop, both just a short walk from the cottage. Overall, our stay at Ivy Cottage was nothing short of magical. It provided the perfect setting for a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway, and we left with wonderful memories that we will cherish for years to come. We highly recommend Ivy Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in a beautiful and welcoming setting. We can't wait to return!

Wow Daria thank you so much for your beautiful feedback! We are truly so happy that you enjoyed your stay in Ivy Cottage, and we would love to have you back as our guests again. Property Owner

  • "Impeccably clean, cosy and inviting cottage."

A lovely welcome pack which includes decent red wine! Thank you Tom and partner. The twin bedroom bit small, storage is mostly in main bedroom. Main bedroom is spacy and comfy. Kitchen very good and clean, a bit rustic. Bathroom is brand new and fantastic. Views amazing, the Nature is breath-taking. As a birder, I was blown away by the variety of birdsong ! Lovely compact garden, but well kept. The veranda was wonderful, spent lots of time in there relaxing. If you want a high octane, extreme sport, theme park type holiday, this isn't for you. If you just want some me-time, to reconnect and recharge in peace and quiet, to get back to Nature, this is most definitely for you! One small advisory note- try to park the car in village main street if possible. (5 mins walk. ) The hill (West Bank) is alarmingly steep and very busy! Not at all quiet from a traffic point of view. Something which surprised us somewhat. Everything else is full on sleepy, however.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Ivy Cottage and would definitely stay again."

Laura was very friendly and provided lots of useful information over email. We really appreciated how clean, comfortable and well equipped the cottage was and the views were stunning. The wood burner was really cosy and warmed the whole cottage. Worth noting for anyone tall that the ceilings are quite low downstairs - my other half is 6ft 5in and he did have to duck under the doorways and the main beam in the living room! Ceilings upstairs are much higher. Thanks again, Laura for a lovely holiday.

  • "We really loved the cottage, which was tasteful, cosy and well-equipped."

Nicely positioned in the village - central, but v quiet, as up a (very steep!) lane off the street, with lovely views. Would definitely stay again.

  • "A lovely traditional Derbyshire cottage nestled on a hill with spectacular views across the village."

Tastefully decorated throughout, equipped with everything we needed including fun board games for the kids, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Location is excellent being only a short drive away from many attractions namely Heights of Abraham, Matlock Farm, Monsal Trail, Bakewell, Chatsworth House, Buxton and various country walks. Two pubs within walking distance and a small village shop - what more do you need on a holiday in Derbyshire?! Thank you Laura & Tom - we had a wonderful stay x

  • "Lovely cottage in beautiful setting."

Freshly decorated with good quality furnishings, towels etc Let down by only one toilet roll left for family 4 for three days, no bin bags, no matches to light wood burner, no cafetière, no coffee pods )and note to purchase them from supermarket in nearest town) and no salt and pepper. If these things are not going to be provided (and at price of holiday let I would expect them) advance warning would be helpful.

  • "The kitchen was described as having a freezer but I couldn't find one."

The description about the location could have made it a bit clearer that it was up a very steep path from the road which would not be suitable for some people .

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that you couldn't find the freezer. There is a full size freezer located in the bike store. This information was emailed to you prior to your arrival, but as you booked the cottage at very short notice you may not have had a chance to check your emails. The views from Ivy Cottage are amazing but unfortunately there is a short steep path to reach the cottage. We hope you didn't find this too challenging and we have amended the description on the website to reflect this. We hope you enjoyed your short stay at Ivy Cottage. Property Owner

About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
