Resting in the traditional, West Yorkshire town of Holmfirth is The Old Post Office, a grand, seven-bedroom home, inviting fifteen guests.

Offering large living spaces, featuring a private games room in the cellar, a pet-friendly garden with hot tub, and en-suite bedrooms, The Old Post Office makes the perfect retreat whilst touring the Peak District National Park.

Drive through the gated driveway, offering space for at least seven cars, and take advantage of the EV charger, before making your way indoors.

Be welcomed into the impressive hallway, with a study to your left, offering a quiet nook to delve into a good book or finish off some work.

Continue into the homely sitting room, complete with plush seating, a Smart TV, and an open fire, where you can unwind after a day of travelling.

Locate the kitchen/diner, fully-equipped for your self-catered stay, where you can whip up delicious meals, before gathering as a group around the lofty dining table.

If the weather permits, opt for an alfresco affair upon the decked area, housing a barbecue and an indulgent hot tub, offering the perfect social setting to while the night away.

Head into the national park to visit the delightful Butterley Reservoir, follow the Black Hill hiking trail, use the Longdendale Trail as your guide, or visit Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre - Canal & River Trust, a bustling area to watch the world go by.

Further amenities can be found in nearby Huddersfield, along with Castle Hill, a popular hiking area, and the Heritage Quay Museum, whilst Tolson Memorial Museum is nearby, showing a timeline of the area’s natural history.

Be sure to visit the many National Trust properties and manor houses in the area, with Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens, and Wentworth Castle Gardens as popular choices, before returning home in time for sunset.

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
