  • "Lovely comfortable, homely property."

Really appreciated the generous welcome pack and friendly introduction from the owner Catherine. Great location in a small village with an excellent pub opposite ‘The Fleece Inn’ ….. highly recommended! Appreciated the recommendations for walks and places to visit by the owners, would highly recommend this as a place to stay in a beautiful location.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback, much appreciated. It was great to meet you both and so glad you had a nice time - even though the weather was so unpredictable! With kindest regards, yours, Sam & Catherine ♥️ Property Owner

Hosts were fantastic and very quick to reply to any communications, very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was wonderful, decorated to a very high standard with lots of lovely little touches, like a bottle of bubbly, tea, coffee and milk with delicious local biscuits. Wifi was excellent ( handy as I was studying as well as on a break) and a very high spec tv meant I could watch Netflix when I wanted. Beautiful walks, amazing pub over the road with a little shop. Breathtaking scenery - will definitely be back!

I was on a course in Huddersfield and the drive from Holme via Digley resevoor was stunning and less than half an hour. It's a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing space that has been created with obvious love and great skill and attention to detail and it's simply a joy to spend time there. The beautifully rendered exposed beams and timbers are a constant reminder of the building's former life and, perhaps because I'm from a Farming background on both sides, just add to the feeling of general wellbeing when inhabiting this stunningly re-purposed space. The views from all windows are wild and dramatic in all weathers, the owners are extremely pleasant and present but unobtrusive, the village pub a few steps away from the front door is welcoming and serves great food and good beer, ditto the attached "Pantry" serving breakfast sarnies/savouries/cakes/coffee etc., there's simply nothing not to love about this place. I will definitely be back as soon as I am able and I'm already looking forward to it.

We highly recommend the place. The Fleece pub across the road had a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The Pickled Pheasant pub although pricey has excellent food. The Catch wasn't as good at the same price. When we had walked all the reservoirs in the area we travelled further afield and did the Monsal Trail and Castleton Blue John caves (Treak Hill). The only pre-warning we'd give for The Hayloft is to park in the road opposite The Fleece pub (lots of space) if you have a low-slung car as you will get stuck like we did at the top of the drive. The accommodation is lovely but there is no oven, just a combi grill and microwave so we got caught out. The food is good though at The Fleece and their carrot cake (from The Pantry) is legendary!

What wasn’t apparent from the property description was the limitations of the kitchen. There’s no storage area in the kitchen and no oven which makes self catering difficult. There’s an excellent catering pub across the road. The owner was friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her.

Thank you for your feedback. On the basis of this the owners have now added a plate rack and shelves which allows for plenty of storage in the kitchen area. We advertise there is a combined convection microwave oven and an induction hob, although small this is more than sufficient for a couples retreat. Once again thank your feedback. Property Owner

Very close to Holmfirth and the shops there, and just across the road from a very nice pub with great sandwich shop attached. Very recently done with a modern, but cosy style, and spotlessly clean. Everything high-end, but not over the top. Kitchen space is small, not for cooking gourmet meals of your own, but perfect for making light meals and sandwiches, and plenty of places to get food nearby. It is spacious and warm with very comfortable top quality furniture and fittings, and excellent wifi provision. The hosts, Catherine and Sam, are just across the drive and made sure we had everything we needed. The generous welcome pack of Yorkshire fare and fresh flowers was a wonderful greeting. The location is ideal for long or short walks from the doorstep, either up to the ridge to find the Pennine Way or through woodland and farm tracks around the many reservoirs, plus there is a regular bus to bring you back up the hill from Holmfirth. It is also easy to drive to and explore further afield, such as Ladybower reservoir and Stanage Edge. The pub over the road was open for outside service (April 2021! Covid lockdown slowly relaxing!) wrapped up warm we enjoyed two tasty meals there. Other meals were prepared in the Hayloft, the induction hob was great and the microwave good for reheating meals I had prepared at home, but I struggled a bit using the microwave/grill to cook a meal that recommended oven cooking! Despite being just off the main road and opposite a pub the thick barn walls and double glazed windows meant we heard nothing when inside the Hayloft, it was easy to relax on the leather sofa and gaze at the stunning moorland views. We had a very relaxing visit and would highly recommend a stay at the Hayloft. Just two cautions... If you are tall, over 6ft, you may find a couple of the beams a bit low, but they have been threaded with fairy lights to remind you! Also, beware of the threshold to the drive it has a small hump, our low, long wheel base estate car, grounded the first time we drove in, amusing the pub visitors!
