  • "Lovely cottage in a great location in Holmfirth."

Cottage was very comfortable and provided for all our needs. Only downside is the very steep hill to get up to it - on the plus side though you will be fitter by the time you go home (there is a slightly gentler but longer route if you come in at the other end of Binns Lane).

  • "Excellent cottage with everything you could need in the heart of Holmfirth and Tracey the owner was so helpful."

We really enjoyed our stay and lots of good restaurants and shops. The hill up was tough but if you cut through the park it’s easier

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Sunnyside Villa."

It is a beautifully designed cosy house in a lovely location. Everything we needed was provided and the extra touches like the scones left for us were very much appreciated. We would definitely recommend the property with the only word of caution being it is at the top of a very steep hill.

  • "Pretty cottage with lovely garden, very well equipped and in an ideal location to explore a great town and wonderful countryside."

The intermittent hot water was a big problem for us as it prevented a comfortable shower on 3 of the 4 days. We cancelled our lunch reservation on the Sunday as we were keen to get home and have a proper shower.

Apologies once again for the problem with the hot water, as I said when I called round the boiler and heating have been recently serviced. Upon investigation this week it appears the hot water thermostat was faulty. This has now been resolved. Apologies once again. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved it."

My husband & I had the back bedroom and it was soo lovely to hear the owls & watch the birds flitting back & too. Loved the patio & sunshine. The only drawback, and it’s nothing to do with the property at all, was the hill up from the main road was very steep and my husband who is having quite aggressive treatment did struggle a bit. Would love to go back.

  • "Lovely location despite the steep hill up from the town."

It would have been really nice to have had somewhere comfortable to sit next to the wood burning stove. The kitchen lighting didn’t appear to dim effectively and there wasn’t any side light either. It would have been very helpful to have an area to remove dirty boots and shoes and contain the dog in when returning from a muddy walk. The dog bowls and towel were great.

  • "Lovely property."

Very spacious and well equipped with everything you need. Nice seating area outside too. Great location as only a short walk from the centre but the road down is very steep so not recommended for people with walking difficulties (though you could take the car)

Many thanks for the feedback I’m glad you had such a lovely stay . It was really nice to meet you . Property Owner

  • "The plants in the back garden were overgrown onto the steps making access difficult."

Could do with a bath mat inside the bath in case of slipping. The towels were very rough, and the mattress in the front double was uncomfortable. My wife has a bad back and the mattress aggravated it. Apart from these items a great place to stay in a good location.

Thank you for your feedback I will arrange for a bath mat. There is one shrub over hanging the steps and the recent rain has made it near impossible to do much gardening but I will attend to this. I’m sorry you found the towels rough I line dry them or dry them in the house for environmental reasons. And find they are more absorbent . I’m sorry you didn't feel able to raise these matters with me at the time. I did say if you needed any help or advice to not hesitate to contact me. Property Owner

  • "Amazing place in an unbelievable location!"

Clean, beautiful, kitchen well equipped. Bedrooms really nice decorated and spotless but the mattresses need u upgrade as we left the property with back akes. Outside space beautiful, but no privacy as the fence is really small, and I could hear and see the next door couple chats. For dog owners, it would've been nice to know that the garden it's not enclosed. All in all nice experience.

Thank you for your feedback I’m glad you had a good experience overall.. It does say on the booking site that the garden is not enclosed. The mattress in the back bedroom is only two years old but I’ll have a look at them again. Property Owner

It was comfortable, clean, and homely. Owner Tracey very helpful and responded quickly to any questions. Would happily stay here again (as long as we were fit enough to get up Coopers Lane). We really enjoyed our stay.

  • "This is a great little cottage close to the center of Holmfirth which is just a short (albeit steep) walk away."

The rooms downstairs are large and airy, the lounge is great for a post walk relax and the kitchen diner has a large table. The kitchen itself is reasonably equipped and has enough workspace for cooking simple meals, although you might struggle for worktop space (although there is that big table). Outside and up some steps the garden is small/medium and well looked after, there is a lovely patio area but note the garden is not "dog proof". All in all this was a super place to stay with friends for a walking weekend, and I would be more than happy to have a week there with the family too.

It's very sunny and very cosy. It has been modernised sympathetically while maintaining its cottagey feel. We had amazing weather and enjoyed a lovely week hiking around the lovely area. We had our dog Diego with us who had a fabulous time! We didn't have to venture far to find great walks. The cottages location is perfect. A few minutes walk from the town with great views over the town and valley. Tracey was very helpful and everything went very smoothly. Would thoroughly recommend.

The cottage was everything we needed as a young family of 5, and Tracey was really helpful throughout our stay. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable, and well located in the town (although be prepared for the massive hill up from the town centre!). Holmfirth is a really lovely town, vibrant and interesting, and there's lots of great attractions a short drive away. I would definitely recommend a holiday here!

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Battye’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
