  • "A wonderful, comfortable and well kept property in walking distance to anywhere in the village."

Very spacious with all mod cons, we had a very relaxing stay. Will definitely book here again when we come back to lovely Aberdour.

  • "On arrival we found the toilet seat broken, something that should of been noticed previously with a repair either undertaken or pending (with guests being notified)."

I contacted the owner who arranged for a repair within days - it's always the reaction that counts, so all good. Equally, only one wine glass in the property, owner notified & new ones appeared quickly. Again, positive actions at pace. Excellent to find a Sunday to Sunday let, travel wise that's great. Otherwise the only other observation is due to a Sunday let, might be an idea to provide a pint of milk in case rentees arrive late. Overall great accomodation, lovely village, nice neighbours - really good time was had. Thanks all.

  • "We've just returned from a lovely week in this accommodation."

The instructions on how to find the parking etc where spot on, I was a little apprehensive when I saw the tight entrance mentioned but a quick look on Google maps alleviated that and we managed fine on each time parking. If anyone does struggle the station is a short walk away and I would say it was only the Saturday that it seemed full. Accommodation is lovely, bed very comfy as is the sofa and the kitchen is well equipped. My only small gripe is there is no empty cupboard space for storing food and we stored what we had on the worktop which wasn't a lot so wasn't a huge issue but I think space could be made for this by moving the tupperware. We had to contact the owners due to an issue with the bathroom light but all was sorted. The neighbours in the flat downstairs are lovely and friendly and we had the odd chat with them. The view from the flat is great and I will miss seeing the lights of Edinburgh twinkling away at night. Highly recommend the walk from Aberdour to Burntisland and the station means its very handy to get about without relying on a car. We would definitely like to return in the future.

Thanks for your lovely feedback, we are pleased that you enjoyed your week. The walk you mentioned is beautiful, and if you are lucky you may even see seals! I have noticed that the Tupperware does have a habit of migrating to any free space, so we are happy for guests to feel free to rearrange storage as needed. I hope that you will come and stay again. The flat was like a home away from home, and it was very cosy and so comfortable. There is everything you could need, the place was spotless and it was really quiet on a night. It's only a few minutes from the train station and a return ticket to Edinburgh is extremely reasonably priced. We loved our stay here, would highly recommend.

Very comfortable bed, plenty of room for 4 people. Garden at back of property is split into two sections, the half nearest road is for ground floor owners (who are very helpful) and other half is for top floor flat. The garden is neatly laid out and has a nice sitting out area. Good cafes, restaurants and walks in nearby park and shoreline. Owners replied promptly to query I had. Very pleased with our stay there.

We would definitely recommend this property and Aberdour itself to our friends. We hope to return in the future.

  • "The flat was very comfortable and catered for all our needs."

The main drawback was that it was on a busy road and we were aware of the traffic from 5 30 in the morning. It's unfortunate that there is a humped pedestrian crossing outside the property, as heavy vehicles reverberated and shook the property. Also, we did not find out that the garden was out of bounds until after we had booked the accommodation. Reading visitor reviews, it seems this has been the case for twelve months or so! Lastly, there were no spare light bulbs in the flat and so when the living room light went, we had to take a bulb out of the twin bedroom ceiling light.

We are glad that the flat was comfortable and you enjoyed your stay- it was wonderful to read your lovely comments in our guest book. We have made sure that spare light bulbs are now available in the event that a bulb goes again. Our apologies for the confusion about the garden as this has been available to guests since the springtime and was not advertised in the property particulars until that point. I have reviewed and updated the information that we email to guests shortly before arrival so that this is clear. I am sorry that you were disturbed by some traffic noise during your visit -Aberdour is a quiet village and we often receive feedback from guests as to how comfortable the beds are and how well they have slept. I hope that this will be your experience should you choose to stay again. Property Owner

The photos don’t do justice to how beautiful this apartment really is. Plenty of space for 4 adults to spread out and lovely touches for families with children. The downstairs neighbour was friendly and chatty. Aberdour train station is on the doorstep so getting to Edinburgh for a day out was really easy. The beach is so close you can walk there in a few minutes. A great place to stay for walking the Fife coastal path.

The apartment was well equipped, extremely clean, spacious and perfectly situated. The beds were very comfortable which was something that I was apprehensive about due to a back injury but they were wonderful. Aberdour is a beautiful place to stay, Silver Sands beach was definitely a favourite to visit during our holiday! It was a convenient location for visiting Edinburgh which we also made use of the Park and Ride. I would highly recommend this apartment to holiday in, and booking through Sykes.

  • "Loved our stay in Aberdour, other reviews are right the photos don’t do it justice, it’s a lot larger than it looks."

The owners had thought of everything for a young family and had installed a retractable stair gate along with a travel cot with sheets and high chair. They had also left lots of other little things which makes travelling with a young family a lot easier, including plastic cups and plates and baby cutlery, also having a wealth of kids books and board games which my little boy loved :) All of this made our stay so comfortable and the beds were very comfy, thank you for a wonderful home from home.

It is very clean with thoughtful essential supplies and good quality towels. It is a short walk from Aberdour station and the purple shop just up the road has a good supply of groceries. The facilities in 40 Main Street has been exceptional and felt as though I was in a suite. All the utensils and interior were amazing. I had a pleasant and wonderful stay and experience top notch facilities. Since I am new to the United Kingdom, I have felt the need for a CAR to drive. Since it's a village, we will find TESCO or ASDA miles away from the location. if you haven't got some vegetables and wheat flour for cooking, then you might experience some difficulties in search of a grocery shop. I will give them 9.5 of 10 for service, hospitality, facilities and location.

Thank you so much for your feedback and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay! A co-op supermarket is being built in the village and should be open soon which will mean guests won’t need to leave the village to buy bigger supplies. We hope that you will return again and enjoy another break at Main Street soon! Property Owner

About the location

ABERDOUR

Edinburgh 18 miles; Stirling 30 miles; St Andrews 36 miles; Loch Leven 14 miles.

The historic coastal village of Aberdour sits across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh with its main street just inland and connected by narrow lanes to the coastal part of the village. Originally built up around the harbour where the Dour Burn runs into the River Forth, the village was essentially in fact two: Wester Aberdour and Easter Aberdour, however the connection was made with the coming of the railway at the end of the 19th century. What remains of Aberdour Castle is one of the oldest surviving stone castles in Scotland dating from the 12th century. Much added to over the centuries by the Douglases, the site is now managed by Historic Scotland and visitors can enjoy the walled garden and terraces and the distinctive beehive shaped dovecot. Known by the Victorians as the Fife Riviera, the secluded Silver Sands and Black Sands beaches have always been favourites and remain so to this day. The village holds a popular annual festival in late July and early August, including cultural and musical highlights, as well as a regatta and a run. With many lovely walks and a golf course, as well as excellent train links to both Edinburgh and further north into Fife, Aberdour remains an attractive and excellently located getaway destination.
