  • "Riechip is large and spacious."

The fixtures and fittings are average. For our stay the cooker had one working oven of three, to feed 12. There was no barbeque. None of the mattresses had protectors on, some were badly stained. Considering the amount charged for our four day stay, if you spent just that amount on ugrading the property it would make a huge difference.

  • "The location, space and configuration is excellent but the house is at the tipping point where it really needs some care and attention given to it."

Perhaps we were one of the first groups in the property this year, hence it was bitterly cold throughout and took some considerable time to heat up. We had no hot showers on one day but a plumber was arranged to call and fixed it for the second and third days of our stay.

  • "Great property and lovely location."

We have stayed here many times over the years and really enjoyed the facilities, the peace and the outstanding beauty of the area. This year we had a problem with the plumbing which meant that we had either scolding hot water or freezing cold water from the Tuesday to the Saturday. A plumber was called but was not able to resolve the problem which was disappointing.

  • "This property was perfect for our group: plenty of space and the views are stunning."

The kitchen was really well equipped and the dining room was big enough to seat everyone for dinner. The house was clean and there were good instructions prior to our stay about collecting keys etc. The only issue was the shower in the main bathroom did not work and there is not a secure garden for dogs- the area backs on to a fenced off sheep field. Overall, we would recommend this property for a large group of people who want to go out and explore the surrounding area. It is not fancy but has a country style feel to it and perfect for cosy nights in front of the fire.

  • "We booked Riechip around 4 months ago after our original booking for another property was cancelled."

We realised when we booked Riechip that it was a Hunting Lodge and not luxurious accommodation with many facilities, which was reflected in the price so our expectations were not high. In the end Riechip slightly exceeded expectations. We had 14 adults and 2 infants so both the dining room and the living room were more than big enough for our gatherings. With 3 showers and 3 WCs there was never any conflict. Some of the rooms had hand basins. The kitchen was big enough to allow cooking for 14 and there were more than sufficient plates and glasses etc. Having 2 fridges, 2 freezers and 2 dishwashers was definitely a bonus. The view from the lounge was spectacular. Overall Riechip was comfortable but some of the decor, furniture and facilities were getting a little tired. If like us you do not have high expectations you can have a great holiday here, particularly if you have a large party, with the ability to sit out front and admire the view or to travel further up the hill to the isolated loch on the moor. In summary we had a great holiday and if looking for a large property competitively priced, to get away from it all, in future we would certainly consider Riechip.

  • "Very disappointed with this booking and our stay at Riechip Lodge."

We found the house to be dirty and uncared for. Bathrooms were mouldy and only one shower was functional on arrival (not enough for 10 people). Upholstery was tired, ripped and stained. Carpets were worn and a waterfall appeared in the porch when it rained, soaking the carpet beneath. The dining room looked very different to the photograph in the Sykes advertisement - the house had a "youth hostel" feel to it rather than that of a shooting lodge. Whilst the scenery round about is absolutely stunning, we would not recommend booking this property and feel the ad was very misleading.

Lots of kitchen equipment with everything you could need.Plenty glassware .... our own bar ! The open fire was great and supplies of fuel excellent . Owner visited several times to check everything was ok. Position isolated but beautiful and views lovely. Lots of walks from the door. Bedrooms fine and bathrooms although dated the showers had great pressure. Only downside the creaky floorboards upstairs!

  • "The Hunting Lodge 'Reichip' exceeded our expectations."

Location of the Lodge itself is on top of a hill with breathtaking views all around stretching far below. The 8 bedrooms are all very comfortable , well decorated and very clean. There is a large dining room as well as a large and very comfortable lounge area both with beautiful views. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything one could wish for to cater to a large number of guests. We couldn't have asked for anything more. The local village of Dunkeld is about a 10-12 minutes ride away with a local butchers, bakery and a small supermarket, ample for your needs. Enjoyed our relaxing week in Reichip! I must also mention that the owner went out of his way to answer any queries we had, even calling us while he was away abroad. Thank you.

  • "Really comfortable house at a lovely location."

All of us had a really lovely time there. Only thing that I would suggest is that the reference to wifi make it clear that the internet speed is very slow. Not an issue for us but some people may be expecting/needing something somewhat faster.

  • "The co-owner dropped in on our first day - he was very friendly and explained a few things that were not obvious."

Generally all was as we expected from the description and the information sent in advance and we had a great time. The kitchen was well equipped, with a good oven and plenty of plates, cups and cutlery. One surprise - there was nothing to make coffee in (no filter machine or french press). The surroundings are great for walking and mountain biking and we saw loads of fallow/red deer and two of our group spotted a (rare) white stag.

About the location

DUNKELD

Dunkeld 4 miles; Blairgowrie 12 miles; Pitlochry 13 miles; Perth 14 miles.

The River Tay flows through the small town of Dunkeld and there are plenty of places to enjoy the views, either from the cathedral gardens or from the Taybank bar where you might be lucky enough to hear some impromptu music performed. The town itself dates from the 9th century and boasts a wealth of history from the Dark and Middle Ages to more recent history with Thomas Telford’s bridge over the Tay. The forests surrounding Dunkeld and nearby Birnam are known as Perthshire Big Tree Country and are celebrated in Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play”. The Hermitage is a National Trust site of beautiful forest which contains Ossian’s Hall of Mirrors, a folly built as a tribute to the 3rd century blind poet Ossian on a rocky outcrop near the Black Linn waterfalls. With the Loch Of The Lowes nature Reserve nearby and also the Victorian village of Birnam with its famous Birnam Oak and a Beatrix Potter exhibition marking her regular visits to the village, this area is one of the most spectacular and varied in Scotland and well worth a visit.
