"A lovely property, a real home from home, with everything you could need."
Right in the centre so close to all the lovely pubs, restaurants and cafes. Excellent walks from the doorstep.
Thanks so much Donna for your excellent feedback after your stay. We are thrilled you found everything to be spot on. That has been our intention as we have worked hard in recent months to make improvements and added touches to make everyone’s stay very special. Looking forward to seeing you back soon. "We had a very comfortable stay at 1 The Cross in Dunkeld."
The kitchen was fully equipped, the lounge/diner was a decent size and felt very relaxing, and the main bedroom had a large very comfy double bed. The location is great being fairly quiet but very close to pubs, eateries, and the Co-op. There are two choices of semi- covered outdoor bars with seating right next to the picturesque River Tay. No allocated car parking space, but I only once had to park more than 30 yards from the property.
Thank you Mr Kelly for your lovely review. Very good information for our first time potential guests. Property Owner

"This is our second visit to this wonderful little property."
And we'll be back same time next year, all being well. Can't fault the property at all, though there are a couple of tiny quirks to figure out such as pilot light on gas fire. Extremely comfortable and cosy, perfect for a lazy week away. It's clear that this is a well loved place and it truly feels like a little home from home. Parking can be variable, but patience is a virtue, someone is always about to free up a space. Local facilities are spot on with a good selection of eating and drinking.

"Nice place, would recommend."

"This accommodation is a great location for enjoying Dunkeld and Birnam and the surrounding area."
It’s comfortable, well-supplied with kitchen necessities. The kitchen and bath are newly fitted with very nice fixtures and appliances and enough pans and dishes to prepare a meal for 12! We enjoyed being able to walk easily to local coffee shops, restaurants, stores and the surrounding sites like the Cathedral, the River Tay, the Hermitage. The only slight negative was the constant cigarette smell which probably came from a smoker living below. While nothing can be done about neighbors it was a bit of an irritant. We were able to open windows for fresh air. Also the sitting room and bedroom carpet might need replacing as it’s a bit musty. Otherwise a most enjoyable stay in a great location.

"We loved this apartment, great location, very cosy, and well equipped."
From a cleanliness point of view, could do with a deep clean, bathroom window frame and windows need attention, also bottom of shower door. However this did not detract from the holiday , think it’s worth mentioning that the fridge/ freezer can accidentally be switched off, as switch in a storage cupboard! Which had happened the previous week! A very enjoyable week at 1 The Cross!

"Central location for activities around town."
Car parking almost always available in adjacent squareThe fridge/freezer were non functional.

"Lovely comfortable base for our holiday."
Flat had everything we needed. Everything in the listing is correct, I would just say it could do with a deep clean every now and again to keep it at a good standard.

"The cottage was perfectly located, not just for Dunkeld (The cross is just off the Main Street, but very peaceful, and a short stroll away from the cathedral and the river), but for the surrounding areas - Perth, Blairgowrie, Pitlochry and the Cairngorms - Braemar and Balmoral."
1 The Cross had everything we needed, and we had a wonderful week - thank you.

"Fantastic property in the centre of Dunkeld."
Well appointed cottage, formerly lived in so feels more personal than generic cottage. Lovely views over the square and carefully tucked away from the main road. Dunkeld is a great place to base yourself to explore Perthshire, a car is recommended.

"Disgraceful that when we arrived, the mountain of post behind the froint door (including two separate 'monthly' magazines' - showing two months worth of post) proved that nobody had been in the property for two months prior to our arrival."
The place was dirty and with cobwebs everywhere. there was no kitchen bin and the only thing we could use was a mop bucket! There were no instructions on which day the wheelie bin needed to be put out (and the wheelie bin was overflowing with rubbish as soon as we arrived) so we had literallly nowhere to put our rubbish. I had to clean the bathroom myself before bathing my son, as there was grime in the bath. My wife was in tears after we arrived and if it hadn't been for the fact we were a 6 hour drive away from home, we would have simply left the property and returned home. It is rated as 4 stars on the website, I would award it one star only based on the above.
Dear Guest I apologise on behalf of my cleaner on how you found the flat on your arrival . Most guests have rated the property 4 Star . I have an agreement with my cleaner that an additional deep clean is completed prior to arrival after a gap of more than 2 weeks. Unfortunately, this was missed by the cleaner and she admits full responsibility. It is very unfortunate that you did not contact me on arrival to raise your concern as I would have had the cleaner out straight away to put right all the issues raise . We spoke when you contacted me looking for the kitchen bin and never mentioned any of the other issues at the time . Therefore, I never had the opportunity to help and resolve them straight away. Kind regards Simon Property Owner

"We (2 adults & 2 young kids) had a lovely stay here."
Cottage was very cosy and the place was tastefully decorated and clean. Cottage was in a great location too. Would definitely recommend.

"The apartment showed no signs of deep cleaning for COVID 19."
It was very dusty, the shower screen was dirty and the bin and toilet roll holder were very dirty which was a shame as it was a very nice bathroom with new fittings . The kitchen was very nice however the oven showed signs of smearing the toaster did not work and had very dubious wiring, the bin under the sink was very dirty and so big the door could not close. The crockery was a mush match of unmatching designs. The twin room was not made up and duvets and pillows were just thrown onto the bed, good job we did not need to use that room. The sitting room was very dusty with cobwebs on light fittings there were still crumbs on the table. Good quality carpet and curtains. Tv was very small not much bigger than a laptop. Very nice log burner. Whole apartment was cluttered with unnecessary tacky memorabilia and ornaments. The main bedroom was very dated and again very dusty , bed was clean and comfortable. Rug at side of bed was very worn . Drawers were lined with old newspapers and grease proof paper which showed signs of having been there a long time. The lamps in both bedrooms and sitting room were supplied by way of many square adapters. There was a note in the kitchen asking us to put the blue bin out on Tuesday but it didn’t say where to put it. The blue bin was in fact already overflowing so we couldn’t use it. We were so uncomfortable with the cleanliness of the apartment that we left after 2 days

"Perfectly located between the Main Street and riverside walk."
The property had all we needed. The only disappointment was that we could not get the television to work.

"Lovely, cosy cottage in perfect location right in the centre of Dunkeld with great shops, pubs, and gorgeous walks right on the doorstep."
Very fair price too! Bed and sofa really comfortable, plenty of hot water, great warm log burner. Really useful to have a washer drier and fast WiFi. Everything was clean and the cupboards well stocked with plenty of plates, glasses, utensils etc. A very small change I’d make would be to add a separate toaster and microwave, although the clever oven does everything required. I’d also prefer the home fragrance to be natural essential oils. I couldn’t find instructions for when to put bins out, and both outside bins were pretty full when I got there. These are minor things though and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Lovely!

"The apartment is lovely and comfortable, situated in town within walking distance to shops, bars & restaurants."
There are lots of walks that you can do directly from the doorstep - definitely recommended!
-
"The bin under the sink in the kitchen was broken and underside was dirty."
The previous people's rubbish was left there too. There was no extra cloth for cleaning in the kitchen except the sponge provided for washing up. There is only one green lidded bin outside in the back garden and there are no instructions for handling rubbish such as where to put items for recycling. The green bin was absolutely full so hadn't been emptied for a while. There were no instructions about when to put out the bin for 'bin day'.

"We were really impressed with the cottage in real life."
It looked nice on the photos but usually you see a place in the flesh and its a fifth of the size and never quite lives up to the expectation. But this one exceeded all our expectations , it was spacious and homely with good quality appliances. The potted history and all the trinkets made it really interesting and gave us inspiration what to do on on holiday. I really dont have anything bad to say, even the neighbours were friendly! Thanks to Simon and Sykes for adding the icing on the cake of our holiday with the brilliant accomodation.

"Great location easy access to local shops, lots of lovely walks no need to use your car."
Good quality places to eat and drink with good outdoor facilities,Flat has a nice sunny area for casual drinks.

"The apartment was clean, well equipped and cosy."
The town of Dunkeld had everything we wanted and more. The location was great for walking in the Highlands.
-
"Perfect accommodation in a perfect setting, the village of Dunkeld is stunning and has so much to offer."
-
"This delightful gem exceeded every expectation."
Absolutely charming, homely and a perfect escape. Pre arrival information was detailed and it was clear that the owners knew exactly what was required to make arrival stress free.. Parking isn't always easy, but a few minutes patience will ensure a space nearby. Facilities in the property were great and the whole ambience of the place made it feel like a second home. Even with current restrictions, the local pubs and restaurants were exceptional, with clear compliance. There is no shortage of books, DVD's etc to keep you entertained, and there is enough history on the doorstep to interest everyone. Our only disappointment came when we had to leave, we should have booked a fortnight! We will, however, be back as soon as possible next year. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes (especially whoever cleans, as the property was spotless)

About the location
DUNKELD
Dunkeld 4 miles; Blairgowrie 12 miles; Pitlochry 13 miles; Perth 14 miles.
The River Tay flows through the small town of Dunkeld and there are plenty of places to enjoy the views, either from the cathedral gardens or from the Taybank bar where you might be lucky enough to hear some impromptu music performed. The town itself dates from the 9th century and boasts a wealth of history from the Dark and Middle Ages to more recent history with Thomas Telford’s bridge over the Tay. The forests surrounding Dunkeld and nearby Birnam are known as Perthshire Big Tree Country and are celebrated in Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play”. The Hermitage is a National Trust site of beautiful forest which contains Ossian’s Hall of Mirrors, a folly built as a tribute to the 3rd century blind poet Ossian on a rocky outcrop near the Black Linn waterfalls. With the Loch Of The Lowes nature Reserve nearby and also the Victorian village of Birnam with its famous Birnam Oak and a Beatrix Potter exhibition marking her regular visits to the village, this area is one of the most spectacular and varied in Scotland and well worth a visit.
