"We have stayed in several Sykes cottages but this was by far our favourite."
So handy to shops, transport and restaurants. We loved being close to The Tay and had some lovely river walks. The views from the lounge windows and the bonus of two bathrooms made the property just perfect for two friends travelling together.
-
"The setting is good, even being situated next door to Weatherspoon's beer garden."
The hot water system is temperamental, but on the whole thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

"Very comfortable property, with a lovely view of the Tay."
Plenty tea bag/coffee/loo paper/cleaning products (under the sink) supplied, at least for 2 people (which we were). Perhaps the 'house book' could be updated with the Wi-fi and Hot water information currently on the kitchen pin-board.

"Overall, the property was a good fit for us."
It (and the parking spot) would have been difficult to find but the documentation provided was detailed and there was clearly posted signage. The location was perfect and convenient to everything and the views were lovely. The biggest issue was the lack of toilet paper when we arrived. We pulled into Perth a bit later than anticipated, so two single women had to walk across the bridge in the dark to the only store open (CO-OP) to buy toilet paper for our stay. That was an unwelcome surprise and one we could have prepared for had we known it was not provided. It is an odd thing not to provide so I can't help but think it was an oversight?
I can only apologise for this situation. I will contact our cleaning company. I know there were sufficient toilet rolls in the cleaners store. Property Owner

"Fridge is a little small when it's 4 adults sharing for a week and the freezer compartment was very iced up with an ice cube tray stuck to the bottom."
Listing mentions a garden patio but it wasn't clear where this was and there was no mention of it in the flat. Family bathroom had slight drain smell. However none of this should detract from the fact that it's a lovely flat in an excellent location.

"We like staying in older properties and understand the limitations that can be inevitable."
However there was no soap, shampoo and only one toilet roll per bathroom. The drains in both showers and basins were very slow to empty and on inspection found to be full of hair, stale soap and very smelly. The drain in the kitchen was also very dirty and smelly. This smell was round the whole house and in the hot weather was particularly unpleasant both day and night. However Watergate was comfortable and well equipped otherwise. It was extremely convenient for visiting the lovely city of Perth

"Stay at 34 Watergate, Perth."
05/06/2023 - 10/06/2023. Long review. First of all the positives. Car parking is provided and within the charge of the stay. For a busy city centre, that's a big positive and one of the reasons we chose to stay here. The apartment at first glance looked well kept and sympathetically renovated to keep the character of the original surroundings. Large lounge, dining and kitchen area. Good amount of cutlery and crockery. Everything that we would need for our stay. Even a little complimentary tub of tea etc. Now for the negatives. Car parking IS NOT ADJACENT TO THE PROPERTY as stated. It is in the front of the church gardens. At first it looks to be a direct access to the apartment, but it is not! To get from the car to the apartment you either have to walk up Tay Street, onto High Street and then onto Watergate and down a back alleyway or, up a long alleyway directly off Tay Street at the left hand side of the Church, onto Watergate and then down the alleyway. Watergate is a one way road that is wide enough for one car. To unpack, we had to block the road and then drive around to the front garden. Fortunately, it does not appear to be a very busy road, so for the few minutes it took to throw everything out of the car, it was ok. We actually had to call Sykes to ask where the parking was as we were baffled! Next, Wetherspoons. It's good to have somewhere so close to dine and have a few drinks, but the noise is awful! I'm a really light sleeper so this was a big issue for me, but even my partner who is a much heavier sleeper was disturbed. At the end of the night, they empty the bins and bottle bins. These bins are directly outside the bedroom windows. This happens from around 11pm to 12.30am. As this is a very old building with high ceilings, it echoes. Badly. The first night, we actually thought someone was in the apartment! Then the following morning at 7am, the drey arrived. Barrels being rolled down the side of the pub and into the back, yet again under the bedroom window. I will now move onto the door to the apartment. The front/outer door at the bottom of the stairs is accessed from the outside by key. From the inside, a quick release paddle, that is used on fire doors. As you access the door the tall, winding staircase leads to the apartment door on the left. To the right, this leads to the church hall, so the main door is obviously used by others from the church or people using the hall. This also got accessed late at night and early in a morning and due to the stone stairwell and very tall ceilings, made echoes throughout the apartment. When it is first heard, it really sounds as though someone is in the apartment with you and is worrying to say the least! We often came back in, to find the door ajar or as we were leaving, the door again, ajar. As previously stated, on first appearance the apartment is nice. However as we unpacked and looked at the cleanliness, it wasn't great. The en-suite toilet was dirty around the toilet seat fittings and in the bowl. The shower door doesn't quite close due to warping and tiles are also dirty with mildew and soap staining. We also had to remove the shower drain trap to allow the water to drain as it was at risk of overflowing into the bathroom out of the shower base. This again was filthy and the shower head drops out of the holder. The second shower room, again the toilet is stained and the shower does not stay at a constant temperature, so the lesser of the 2 evils was the dropping shower head without a drain trap! From this shower room, there is also an awful drain smell - almost like a gas/methane smell. Needless to say, we kept that door well and truly closed! There are stains around the plughole fittings to both shower rooms. We were also left with less than half a toilet roll in each loo, no hand wash in the en-suite and and a very small amount in the other. Much the same with washing up liquid and dishcloths. Only one half of the toaster works and the sink is stained in there too. Carpets in the lounge area, are quite stained in places. Oven door, dirty marks dripping down the inside. Oh and the lovely complimentary tub? Out of date hot chocolate and biscuits! Didn't even want to try the milk as there was no date on them! Back to some positives, because there were some. A beautiful view from the large windows overlooking the River Tay and surrounding area. The window seat is a nice touch. Very central for the local shops and supermarkets and local attractions like, Scone Palace and Glamis Castle. Good transport links if you prefer to use the bus or trains. We chose to get a train into Edinburgh rather than drive and it was a brisk 10 minute walk to the station. Several pubs and eateries all within a few minutes walk. Local parks - South and North Inch and walks again within a good locality. Photographs can be provided if needed.

"Spacious flat in the heart of Perth, a perfect location for exploring the area."
The accommodation is clean, warm, well equipped and comfortable with a lovely view of the river. The parking space a nice addition. Perth itself a lovely city with lots to do and see. A previous review mentioned noise from the Wetherspoons pub next door, we had no such problems and found the area very quiet. Would definitely recommend this accommodation.
-
"Nice apartment, well positioned fir exploring Perth and beyond."
Well equipped, with the exception of washing up facilities. We were aware that there was no dishwasher, but the kack of washing up liquid and dishcloths was disappointing. Overall, however, a satisfactory holiday experience.

"Lovely view from the apartment was tidy and clean exactly as advertised."
Things to do folder was there to help figure out where to go was very helpful.
-
"Fantastic location and surprisingly quiet."
This is a large apartment where there is plenty of space for the furniture. The bedroom blinds aren’t the best and they let a lot of morning light in, but we eventually covered them.

"This is our 2nd time staying in this cottage and will probably do so again."
Very clean comfortable flat, and nice to stay in such a historical building. Very extreme rainfall caused a small leak whilst we were there, but they were very quick to sort it out and very apologetic despite it not being their fault at all! Very handy for the town centre.
Full repair carried out on the Saturday you left in preparation for the next guests. Thanks for your help by reporting the problem quickly. Property Owner

"A wonderful large, clean and comfortable flat which is just a minute's walk from the centre of Perth, but feeling very calm and quiet, over-looking the private garden (with your own parking space) and the beautiful River Tay."
The theatre, concert hall and museum are just round the corner, as are several well maintained parks and open spaces. The surrounding streets feel clean and well kept, and there are so many grand and magnificent buildings, it's a really beautiful place to visit. Tom couldn't have done more for us - a big thank you for all your help.
Yes it was a pleasure to have helped make your stay comfortable and thanks for your appreciation of the need to move your car to an alternative location to accommodate the Platinum Jubilee festivities. Property Owner

"Accommodation and amenities excellent, situation superb, having provided car parking in the heart of a city centre is exceptional."
We really enjoyed a wonderful holiday break.
Many thanks for your comments. For us the car parking is an important facility as wel as providing clean and fresh accommodation. Property Owner

"Very spacious (is bigger than photos suggest) comfortable and warm flat."
Great location as shops, pubs, restaurants, cinema and museums all a short ( 5 min) walk away. Spotlessly clean. Easy drive to Cairngorm National Park. No hesitation in recommending, just be aware it is a first floor flat so some stairs up to it ( easy, with hand rail).
Thank you, Pleased you enjoyed your stay Tom Property Owner

"1. Yes."
There were signs that maintenance is needed. The ensuite door from the main bedroom didn't shut properly -- it needs planing at the top -- and the hook is falling off. 2. The bright light from Wetherspoons at night was a potential nuisance, as the bedroom blinds provided are not blackout quality. We were able to improvise something but this was an unexpected setback. 3. The bedlinen was thin and poorly fitting -- not consistent with the high standards elsewhere. 4. We had an unexpected email from a Mr Tom Morrison in Perth, asking if he could come round to check a reported washing machine leak. We didn't want to use the washing machine and didn't want to have him round anyway, so ignored it. 5. We'd have rung you during our stay to tell you some of this, but the phone interface was not encouraging -- we could have spent a long time getting through. A local contact would have been helpful for reporting issues. 6. The guest information about the flat was sketchy to say the least. No provision for separate recycling bins looks poor.

"We had a lovely stay at Watergate , the large window was the highlight."
Location is perfect for the city we did a lot of walking. As we were there for a week and the Scottish weather a change of towels would have been appreciated . A recycling bin is highly recommended for outside the facility .

"Apartment excellent, location excellent parking arrangement excellent and all facilities excellent, will definitely return."
-
"Everything was excellent - only thing that could be improved is the clarity of parking instructions."

"34 Watergate is in a great location in Perth."
Shops, restaurants and pubs are a short walk away. I was a little worried about the spiral staircase but the steps are wide and broad with a handrail at either side. The flat was very comfortable and well equipped. Although the flat was very central it was very quiet. A second set of keys would have given us a little more flexibility but we worked around it. The outside lock on the downstairs door took us a couple of days to figure out. Once you unlock it with the key you need to open the door then use the key to re lock it before you enter. Then when you close the door it is locked on the outside. Overall we had a lovely stay in 34 Watergate. Would highly recommend.

"The apartment was really lovely and clean ."
Had stunning views of the river . Excellent location for the town and transport links. The apartment had a home feel to it..Would recommend the apartment to anyone who would like a accommodation which feels like a home from home .Had a lovely time .Would really come and stay in the apartment again.

"Apartment was very clean, cosy and well furnished."
Having two bathrooms was a bonus and the extra tvs in the bedrooms. Smallish kitchen but enough room for breakfast and the like. Wetherspoons is next to the apartment and is very good value for meals and drinks. Stones throw from the High Street and Perth is easy to walk round. Off street parking is fine, might be a tight squeeze for a large vehicle. All in all a great place for a break. Recommend climbing Kinnoull Hill for some stunning views.

"We stayed at Watergate while working at Perth Theatre."
The apartment was fantastic - excellent central location with a lovely view of the river, and everything we needed to make ourselves at home. Other reviews have mentioned noise from the Wetherspoons next door but apart from one morning when we were briefly awoken by bottles being recycled we weren't bothered by this at all. The spiral staircase leading to the flat was no issue for us but is worth noting if any of your party have mobility issues. I would highly recommend staying here for your trip to Perth!

"Lovely accommodation, well equipped, spacious and comfortable."
Main negatives - unable to use WiFi, no dishcloth to wash up and no soap dispenser. Lots of helpful information in room and nice touches with teabags, coffee, milk and umbrellas. Location great and some lovely views of the church and river Tay. Adjacent to Wetherspoons pub which is both a positive and negative, i.e great to start the day with a breakfast but not so good when the staff are rolling barrels around noisily at 6.00 am on a Friday morning!
-
"Lovely apartment, very clean and well appointed, great location for getting out and about plenty to do and see ,would recommend it."
-
"The apartment was perfect."
When we arrived we could not get into the apartment the key number did not work we phoned Sykes and they immediately sorted out the problem which was entirely our own fault. The cleaner who came out to help us was wonderful and did no show any signs of annoyance at disturbing her evening and wasting her time to which we were extremely apologetic.
-
"This is a lovely flat, well equipped and extremely convenient for exploring all parts of Scotland with or without a car."
We used the train all the time and visited many places from Aviemore to Edinburgh. The only slight problem was having Wetherspoons next door. We did hear barrels being moved late and early which was not too bad but we had to have the blinds down in the bedrooms because the very strong lights which light up their yard were on full all night. We think that there should have been more warning that the spiral staircase was 25 steps up into the flat which could have been an issue for people with mobility problems. It was OK for us but might not be for others.
-
"Beautfiful warm very clean comfy flat in the town centre with a parking space in the church gardens."
We were a bit concerned about parking to start with and had to ring sykes to check if this was actually going to be private and we wouldnt arrive to find someone parked there!. Bit awkward that the caretaker number is actually sykes as they act as letting agent so any issues you have to ring sykes not the caretaker direct. They didnt really answer our question but when we arrived we found that the gates had a big sign on with private parking for 34 watergate. You have to unload at the back and then take car round to the gardens and park on the gravel so the church gardeners can get in and out. Great for town centre literally two steps from the front door of the flat into the shops and high street. Lovely window overlooking the river. All in all had a lovely week. If we could find one fault (and it is nothing to do with the flat itself) it would be the fact that there is a wetherspoons public house next door. The bins and back of the pub were immediately under the bedroom windows so there was associated noise late at night and early morning of staff moving beer barrels and putting rubbish out.

"The position is excellent and the accomodation top class."
