  • "Wow!!!"

! What can we say, other than wow!! What a stunning rural cottage. Decorated tastefully, immaculately clean, offering everything you needed for a comfortable stay. Everything worked. Loved the addition of an airfryer too. The bed and bedding was luxurious. The bathroom and shower was amazing. So so lovely to have a washing machine and dryer too. Thankyou!! Exceptional location for exploring and we were so lucky to be there on the blackest of nights to have the northern lights dancing in the sky above us. Wonderful view across the fields watching the hardworking farmer toil the land. Just a wonderful escape from the busyness of life. We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend a holiday here to anyone wanting to switch off. Perfect x

  • "The property and location is first class."

Fantastic rural views and quiet setting. The cottage is clean, modern and has every ammenity with all appliances provided. I was there playing golf and was only 15 minutes from North Berwick's Golf coast. Haddington is 2 minutes away for shops and food. A brilliant find and would highly recommend. The owner was very friendly and helpful and was on hand if we had any queries or questions we wanted answering, thankyou.

  • "From start to finish this was the most beautiful stay."

We ended up landing later than originally planned due to traffic and had an asda food delivery due. The host Jane popped a note on the door and sorted it for us. The house was immaculate, we've stayed in dog friendly accommodation before and you have to have an understanding that it won't be as clean as a none pet friendly one but this one is! It's beautifully laid out, everything you need is there. Communication was spot on before and during the stay. We had a slight thermostat issue at 10pm on the second to last night and they picked the phone up immediately and sorted the problem. I would definitely return! The area of Haddington is beautiful, we spent most of our time at the coast. Perfect stay. Only negative is it went too quickly!

  • "Nice, quiet and modern place to stay only a few minutes drive outside Haddington."

A nice big tv and good WiFi should you have a Dreak day and want to stay in. Good laundry facility if you stay a long time. There is bus services at the end of the lane to Dunbar-Haddington-Edinburgh in both directions. Also Drem station with free parking (as of July 2024), about 10 mins drive away, for Edinburgh Waverley in about 30mins. I would suggest a visit to the Scottish flight museum about 5-10 mins drive away, despite the price there is so much there including a Concorde you can go round currently with a free handset commentary. In my opinion a really nice area of the UK to visit.

  • "8 Barney Mains was one of the best places we have stayed."

The bed was wide, firm and very comfy and the bed in the spare room was the same. Every facility we could think of was provided. The host (Jane) was very nice and came and chatted to us when we arrived. If we are in the area in the future, we will definitely stay here again.

  • "We feel the accommodation was excellent, clean, comfortable and well maintained."

The only point worth mentioning was there were 4 steps to the master bedroom, as we are elderly a handrail would have been very useful and safe. As a result we wouldn’t use that room ( beautiful room).

Very comfortable beds and sofas. High specification kitchen appliances with utility room comprising washer/dryer. Spacious bathroom. Nice sized secure rear garden for dogs to play.

  • "Barney Mains cottage is a wonderful property - we have a fantastic stay and have already made plans to return for another break soon."

The cottage is well-appointed and tastefully decorated, the space has clearly been well used/designed. Location-wise, it's a very short drive away from the lovely North Berwick and close enough to Edinburgh for some city centre exploring. But the cottage itself feels lovely and remote - so you can come back from a busy day and enjoy the peace! The views from the cottage are also gorgeous. We had a fantastic time and hope to return soon.

  • "8 Barney Mains is a recently renovated farm cottage surrounded by fields and near public footpaths."

It is tastefully decorated and has great facilities including log burner, kitchen with good appliances and very comfortable beds. We stayed for 5 nights with our dog. There is a small fully secure rear garden which was perfect and good local walking. The cottage is perfectly situated for all the area has to offer. The owner, Jane was very helpful and we would certainly return.

  • "We had a lovely week at this cosy cottage."

It's on a lovely quiet lane, overlooking the nearby farm fields, but it's also just a few minutes from the A1 and Haddington. So, great for getting into Edinburgh or heading to the coast. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well! The property was well equipped and nicely furnished too. The small garden was completely enclosed for our dog and we could go for walks right from our door. We'd definitely stay again. Thank you for your prompt replies to a couple of queries we had. Very friendly owners.

Good location for exploring Edinburgh and the Lothians. This area offers a range of activities for most age groups, although a car is useful to get to see the sights or to get to the railway station for easy access to Edinburgh City.

About the location

HADDINGTON

Gullane 8 miles; North Berwick 9.5 miles; Dunbar 11 miles; Edinburgh 18.7 miles

Twenty miles east of Edinburgh is the small town of Haddington, which has long been the cultural and geographical centre for East Lothian, and sits on the north-east bank of the River Tyne. Once famous for its mills, it was also the fourth-largest town in Scotland during the Middle-Ages, and went on to be the centre of the Scottish Agricultural Revolution.
The medieval layout of the town has been little altered since then, and to preserve the historic buildings the government rehabilitated many of Haddington's structures to ensure their preservation. Nowadays, Haddington is a beautiful market town, rich in history and with many attractions. Travel over to Lennoxlove House, one of Scotland’s most ancient and notable houses, in the middle of an extensive estate, or roam about the Butterdean Wood amongst the rich selection of flora and fauna, where Roe deer graze and the birdlife is vast. Play some holes at the long-established Haddington Golf Club where visiting parties are welcome, and you can relax in the clubhouse afterwards. Haddington will serve you as the perfect location to explore this gorgeous county of East Lothian.
