"Fantastic communication both before, during and after."
Sorry about the confusion with the cooker. You need to use it in conjunction with the timer.
We would recommend the tour of the house and gardens.
Great for getting into the city of Edinburgh. As discussed some information in the welcome pack regarding the best park and ride with a postcode and directions for getting a bus would be a big help as they aren’t as easy to navigate as other cities but appreciate that is not Cockenzie Hoise & Gardens’ issue.
Chinese is great if you don’t want to cook and the cafe is well worth a visit.
A lovely coastal walk nearby too.
Already discussing about the possibility of coming back next year.
Thank you

"Turret Cottage is quiet, very clean, warm and comfortable."
We were very comfortable there and would happily stay there again. We had one slight problem with the downstairs toilet that was fixed very quickly. Local amenities are within 5 - 10 minutes walk. The view over the Firth is lovely. There is a train station 2 miles away at Prestonpans, from where it is a 14 minute ride to the centre of Edinburgh. Highly recommended.

Should be said that the garden behind the cottage is in constant use by the locals walking dogs etc so it is never truly private even in the evening but wasn't too bad

We stepped out the patio door and were in it. I wish I had known the gardens were all done by few volunteers earlier in the week. I enjoyed a spot of weeding on the last day. The beach at the boat shore is very close and is covered in sea glass. Very helpful housekeeper one small problem was dealt with very quickly. Property is unusual get Lisa to tell you what it used to be.

"Positives. The beds were very comfortable and it was quiet."
Niggles. We were cold! And it was only October! Each room has an electric panel heater but these were inadequate. There were no instructions how to programme them (they were all different) so we couldn't set them to come on just before we returned. The door into the upstairs shower room catches on the bedroom carpet making it very stiff. There was no shelf or towel rail near the shower nor a bath mat. No cleaning materials in shower room nor bathroom. WiFi only worked in sitting room. Sofa in sitting room very soft so 2 people slid onto each other. No key to go out onto patio. No where sensible to store food in kitchen. No vacuum or long handled brush to clean floor. There was a Ewbank type floor cleaner but they never work well. No floor mop. Microwave had sticker showing it should have been PAT tested in 2021. Sticker on fridge unreadable. One or two niggles would be ignored but there were too many. In general holiday cottages are pretty well fitted and looked after but this one needed some attention.

It’s bigger than it looks on the photo’s. Very well equipped and very toasty. Beds are super comfortable and the area is very quiet. We had a slight issue with not being able to get the TV working. It was dealt with very promptly, maintenance man came out on a Sunday to sort it. Would definitely recommend.

"I cannot praise this cottage enough."
We had a fantastic stay. The cottage is much more spacious than it looks on the pictures. The location is fantastic with views of the beautiful house gardens on one side and the sea on the other. There was live music in the gardens on Sat and Sun but only till 8.30 so enough to enjoy, not late enough to really disrupt the kids sleeping patterns. The cottage is nice and cool and light. The only thing we struggled a little with is that there are emergency exit lights in the corridors that are permanently on and were quite bright but I think that is a requirement for the site. Bus ride into Edinburgh was easy and there is plenty to see locally.

It was clean and comfortable and staff at Cockenzie House were friendly and helpful. The gardens were a delight and having the cafe on site and live music the week-end we arrived were added bonuses. "An attractive cottage beautifully presented with a view of the Firth of Forth."
Very convenient for Edinburgh and towns along the coast.
The cottage was very comfortable apart from the sofa so we sat in the single chairs instead. As has been mentioned the water pressure is not very strong upstairs so used downstairs instead.
We nearly always got parking in the courtyard but it was a bit tight at times.
The windows do not open and this was ok as it was quite cool but it might be uncomfortable if the weather was warm.

"The cottage did not meet our expectations."
Came home on the third day into our visit. Cottage was cold, in need of upgrading/redecor. The sofa and chairs were the most uncomfortable to relax in. The 'cobbled courtyard' was way too busy with work vans. The shower in the ensuite was hardly worth turning on. In fact was the worst holiday cottage we have been to ever.
We are dismayed by this. Temperature - each room has electric radiators. We provide hot water bottles, extra blankets. The housekeeper explained how to use the shower. The courtyard is full because we have 46 thriving businesses in the Main House and we have stonemasons restoring the historic boundary walls. You have our email, we are on the premises every day, our Housekeeper encourages visitors to contact us. Why choose a public source to criticise when we could have helped if you had come direct to us?

"Water pressure in the shower in en-suite was not good at all I had to rinse my hair over the bath downstairs."
Water was always hot from tap. Heating was an issue for us we found it cold especially at night. The bed wasn’t very comfortable for us. We couldn’t get rubbish put in a bin as it was locked. Overall a lovely wee cottage great place for a base and bus stops close by we bought a 5 day trip ticket worth it if your going to explore.
Thank you. We love to learn. 1) Ensuite shower pressure. The plumber says this is due to how you use the dial. We will leave now instructions. 2) Heating at night. Each room has effective electric radiators. We provide extra blankets on each bed and hot water bottles. 3) Our housekeeper is always on hand, our email always checked, the House open to drop in. "Turret Cottage is part of Cockenzie House which also contains a cafe and various social enterprises."
The cottage overlooks the enormous front garden of the house which is used as a social space by the cafe / art workshops etc. While we were staying, there was a bar with music at the weekend. The house is very close to the coastal path and a small inlet known as the Boatshore which provides a nice little swimming area at high tide.
Inside the cottage we could have done with another cupboard in the kitchen to store groceries. A cooker hood or extractor fan would also be a helpful addition. These are small niggles and we certainly enjoyed our stay here especially as the weather was so good.

"I have already replied to your previous email requesting feedback from our holiday but here are my observations again."
The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed. I would ask that perhaps the windows could be opened as it was very warm for our stay and especially upstairs some fresh air would have been welcomed. Also, there was no way to open the kitchen window or extractor to take away the steam when cooking, a minor point I know. The upstairs shower was welcome although the water did not always run hot, but hot enough to use.
All in all, the cottage was good with easy access to the John Muir Way and within reach of either Edinburgh or North Berwick.

She told us all the essential information about the cottage and amenities in the local area.
The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped.
A door from the cottage takes you straight into the grounds of the adjoining Cockenzie House & Gardens.
There are lots of little shops and local businesses and an excellent tea room all situated within the house.
Across the car park at the rear, takes you to a small beach and coastal footpath. Lots of nice local pubs, takeaways and shops, all in walking distance.
Made a great base for the week to explore the local area.
Fantastic stay, we can't wait to return.
