"The house is spacious, comfortable well equipped with ample parking."
Well situated for local amenities and visitor attractions. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming. We were blessed with some lovely weather. We thoroughly enjoyed our week here and would highly recommend a stay here
Thanks for the feedback Glynis. It’s much appreciated. This helps us in a big way as we try to establish a reasonable balance on what we can afford and at the same time not to take advantage of our customers. Property Owner

"A lovely presented cottage in a great location."
Handy for shop, pubs and a good amount of walking in the area. Great garden for children - very safe. Good for anyone with pets too. All in all a great cottage.
Thank for great comments. We do try to make sure that everything is up to scratch. And do recommend to customers that if there’s genuinely anything amiss to let us know. So that we can try to put it right before the next guests arrive. And thanks again, it’s nice to hear. Regards Jim and Sandra and our cleaners who do make a great difference. Property Owner

"Chaldon is a large property and sits in a great area to explore."
Plenty of space for a big family or even two families. Close to a pub and a clean beach. Long walks available in this area or easy enough just to sit down and relax. Be mindful of being close to a fairly busy road if you have loose pets or children. No problem coming back here though with loads more to explore and do.

"Loved the house, plenty of space and bathrooms for everyone."
Clean, comfortable, lots of sofas. Close to the beach and the lovely harbour nearby. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

"The house was nice and bright however attention to detail with cleanliness is lacking."
I cleaned the outside of the bread bin and it was filthy. I also cleaned the lounge table top and again, this was filthy. All windows are in need of a good clean. The lounge cushion covers are in need of replacement and the seating has all seen better days. When you sit on the two seater settee you fall in to the middle of it. There were no instructions in relation to the outside waste bins so it was difficult to know which bin to use. Both bins, sited next to the back door, were filthy and the smell was overpowering. We swept the back patio as it was covered in vegetation debris. The outside wooden bench couldn't be used as again, it was filthy. For a house that sleeps eight there were only two decent outside chairs to sit on. Overall the house was functional but it is in need of a good clean freshen up.
Dear Mrs D Thanks for your feedback. what I cannot understand is that .WHY did you not complain when you were there? It states that we are there to help and only live 1 1/2 miles away and the House keeper only stays 2 miles away. After the property is cleaned. My partner( who was a hotel owner and B&b owner) or I go in and inspect it. On this occasion it was me and I can assure you we look at everything. Good feed back is very important and I feel you could have lifted the phone and I would have come up to the property and seen it .Back obviously you decided on a different approach .I wonder why? Have a nice day. Property Owner

"Really enjoyed our stay."
Sadly sleep was limited through no one’s fault other than the Highways Agency who decided to make overnight closures on the A1 and routed all traffic through poor little Coldingham…huge HGVs rumbling past all night wasn’t brilliant for anyone staying or living on that route. Put 3 in cleanliness as there was some mould in my en-suite shower and on the first evening a little water was spilt on the dining area floor which when mopped up did lead us to believe that the floor hadn’t been mopped for while. CHALDON is ideally suited for exploring the area. Coldingham has a wonderful butchers and very interesting antiques shop. Also a little bookshop run by volunteers. Excellent communication from the owner. Back visiting the area in June but sadly CHALDON is alsrrady booked.

"Chaldon is an exceptionally comfortable, warm, well equipped house in a lovely area."
Ideal for a large family to meet up and share lovely walks and cosy evenings in the large sitting room. The house had everything we needed and the owners were really approachable and helpful. Highly recommended.
Thanks for your great feedback. It’s nice to hear. We feel any feedback that’s justified is good because we want for our customers to have a great time. Property Owner

"Grate holiday home in a perfect place"
-
"Great week away."
Very spacious property with good facilities supplied. Easy distance to beach.
-
"Very comfortable house and plenty of room for 7 people."
More comfortable garden furniture would be a bonus but not essential, plenty of kitchen dishes. A very pleasant stay.
-
"Fantastic holiday home, well equipped and very comfortable."
Kitchen superb, utility room invaluable when returning from beach. Enclosed garden great for the kids and the dog. Take care when turning into property as entrance tight. Regarding accuracy of listing: In bullet pointed section it says beach 30 minute walk however in fuller description of property it says 8 minutes. Definitely a 30 minute walk. Listing says ‘One well behaved pet welcome, second dog available on request with £20 charge’. However, when we added just 1 dog to our party we were charged £30. Listing should be amended to reflect this charge as we took from wording that one pet would be included in listed let price. Regarding property itself, one of the showers didn’t work properly and didn’t stay on unless you held button down the whole time when showering. This had been noted in the visitors comment book on more than one occasion but not yet repaired. A brilliant house for a family holiday in a great location.
Dear Kathryn In response to your comment on the shower not staying on. There is a power cord behind the door and when that’s engaged. The shower works perfectly. Just to keep you up to date. We are closeing the cottage for a week in October so that we can install a completely new boiler system . And this shall include a new shower in the other bathroom. The only reason for this is to be more fuel efficient Regards Jim and Sandra Property Owner

"Bigger towels for us larger people for showers Enjoyed everything else ."
Quite a long walk for our three year old to get to beach would have been easier to take the car
-
"A perfect house to have a wonderful holiday ."
Two things I would like to comment on is it would be helpful if there was a list of items which could be recycled and in the main bedroom a small wardrobe or a hanging dress rail would also be helpful, other than that everything is perfect.

"Very spacious everything you need great base for touring"
-
"Chaldon was the perfect home from home for our family holiday in Coldingham."
The facilities were all first class and the location is perfect for walks to the beach and coastal path to St Abbs. Nearby shops and pubs and a bus stop right outside the door for trips to Eyemouth and Berwick. Highly recommended.
Thanks for your nice feedback Graham. We hope that we may see you again. Property Owner

"We had a good holiday in this very spacious holiday home."
Lovely village, easy walking distance to shops, pub, chop shop and beautiful beach. Very big living room with comfortable sofa and nice big coffee table for games and jigsaws. Extremely well equipped, extra long washing line and outside tap came in very handy after kayaking and paddle boarding, we even spotted a whale and dolphins! Great place would recommend. Only downside for us was that the mattress was too thin in the main bedroom (with en- suite) so the slats were felt through it.

"Chandos was definitely a home from home experience!"
The house has spacious rooms and a fantastic well equipped kitchen /diner that makes your stay even more enjoyable, plus plenty of bathrooms to accommodate full capacity of guests.

No every thing was fine we have stayed here before not far from the beach weather was good we visited many places Holy Island in particular
-
"Lovely cottage but plumbing is of concern in sinks."
Four bedrooms but three have no hanging space at all for clothes which is really inconvenient. There is also a rather musty smell throughout.
-
"SHORTAGE OF WARDROBES ONLY 1 FOR 4 BEDROOMS OTHERWISE GOOD AND GOOD WEATHER"
-
"Superbly maintained property in a lovely location."
The owners (Jim & Sandra) keep the house immaculately. Its really spacious with all the facilities and equipment that you could possibly need and more. Coldingham is a lovely little seaside village with a great beach just 15 mins walk from the house (<5 mins in the car) Thoroughly recommended.
-
"CHALDON was a really comfortable house with plenty of space for 7 adults and very well equipped good parking ."
Plenty to do in the area and the village was really nice.
-
"Lovely Christmas welcome with tree set up , shortbread and wine in fridge."
House just perfect and so clean . Best holiday home ever.
-
"The big problem with this house, was the password for the internet was not clear to read the lettering was difficult to tell what was what !"
And the tv was also a issue as we could not get the Normal channels . Ground floor bedtime was small for a double room . Apart from that all good .

"The village is lovely there's a shop less than 5min walk that sells anything you may need (a little expensive, but not overly) there is also two pubs less than 5min walk (we would reccomend the New Inn, dog friendly and child friendly) staff are all fantastic and the food is lovely!"
The beach is a 15-30min walk depending on which route you take, we found lots of starfish and crabs at low tide, the kids loved it! Edinburgh is about an hour away, always worth a visit and the Christmas Market is on with all the festive lights (just stunning), Glasgow is a good 2hr drive but well worth the day out you have the transport museum, kelvin grove arr gallery (all free barring a donation) there's also some fantastic castles within a 2hr drive, it's a good location to allow you to explore! The property itself....its best feature is the living room it is nice and comfortable BUT take your own entertainment as there are no DVDs etc for kids, and the TV is basic so even if you have a Netflix account you cant use it, the kitchen is also a great room which is where we spent most of the time cooking and playing games (we brought our own, and would advise to do the same as there aren't any there), the bedrooms are adequate BUT they are small doubles (I'm 6'2") and because of the bed frame had to sleep on an angle and wasn't a very comfortable sleep, also NONE of the main bedrooms have ANY HANGING SPACE there is a chest of drawers and bedside cabinets, that's it! Only on of the bedrooms have a TV and that's also the room with the ensuite! There is a downstairs toilet at the entrance, but bath and shower facilities are all upstairs. The property also states enclosed gardens so we thought nothing of letting our dog out the back door on arrival after the long car journey, only to be greeted by him moments later at the front of the property (you can close the driveway gates) BUT the front hedges are NOT secure so if you have a small dog, or a curious big dog the can easily escape so I would be very vigilant when letting your pet out. It was an enjoyable break but I dont think we would return to this particular property....the area yes!

"This is an odd shaped house from the outside which hides the spaciousness once inside."
It is beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The beds and bedding are superior. Some maintenance is necessary, maybe because it is the end of the season. We would have felt responsible if the toilet roll holders had finally fallen off the wall, for example! Two downsides which other guests have commented on in the past - the roof over the master bedroom is very noisy in the frequent wind, and the garden is not secure (as advertised). Dogs can escape and cannot be left alone. The area is beautiful. The historic village is charming and very welcoming, and the sheltered beach is superb.
-
"A very spacious comfortable house with lots of comfy seating and a peaceful garden to relax in."
The village had everything you could need and everyone was very friendly.
-
"Great house so comfortable home from home"
-
"The Coldingham beach is lovely but 10 minute drive."
Lots of ‘hidden’ walks in the area which was recommended by a man at the village bookshop. Great food at local pub 5 minutes walk from the house.
-
"We had a really great time at Chaldon in Coldingham."
The house was everything we were hoping for and more: plenty of space for the five of us, and very attentive owners when one or two little things went wrong (a shower fitment and the fan oven). The location of the property was excellent, with Coldingham only a stone's throw away, with its local facilities and its charm, and the lovely beach just a bit further on. We were very sorry to have to leave, and wished we could have booked it for a fortnight rather than just a week.
-
"We enjoyed our week with friends from Cumbria, Dumfries & we came down from Aberdeen to meet & catch up in Chaldon , plenty room for 6 adults to do what they wanted in the house."
We explored the wee coastal villages & towns roundabout, up as far as Tranent for a concert & down as far as Berwick on Tweed. Coldingham itself is a lovely unspoilt wee village & we were lucky to be there to attend an Afternoon Tea in the Priory Church which was excellent in a beautiful old building.
-
"We had a lovely week in a lovely house situated in the middle of the village."
The only negative was the fact we could not access BBC Tv for whatever reason! Thanks Richard Flynn
-
"We were informed on arrival, via a handwritten note, that the previous occupant had taken the WiFi code."
We were promised that a router and new code would arrive on Tuesday 4 September. Nothing happened on the Tuesday, nor in the remaining days of our holiday. No contact was made by the owner nor your company regarding this issue. This was extremely disappointing and inconvenient as I work from home as an Accountant and no wifi led me to make alternative arrangements. I would stress that this complaint is not related to the accommodation which was excellent.

"First time booking Syke's cottages and wow were we impressed ."
Can't wait to book another trip . Everything was perfect. We have used other sites before but never again as sykes cottages top the lot

"Lovely clean well set out house with plenty of space - fully equipped to meet ..."
Lovely clean well set out house with plenty of space - fully equipped to meet all our needs - nice outdoor space so always a spot to catch some sun - more outdoor seating would be a good thing - perhaps a nice bench by the side of the house - plenty parking space - nice comfy beds and a lovely village setting within walking distance to a lovely beach where we spent many a happy hour - nice shower to boot so what else could we ask for - would recommend highly
-
"We had a lovely time."
The cottage felt spacious and large enough for all of us. Coldingham bay is a beautiful beach and only a 15min walk away from the cottage. Thank you to the owners who posted back the clothes we accidentally left behind
-
"Beautiful place to stay."
Plenty of space, bright and clean.
-
"The TV was very complicated to operate, we were unable to get live TV."
Maybe a dummies guide to the T V would have been helpfull. Apart from that it was a lovely house, in a very beautiful part of the world.
-
"Hosts were helpful."
NICE TO HAVE THE HOUSE DECORATED FOR CHRISTMAS ANS A WELCOME BOTTLE OF PRISECO.
-
"Gorgeous house, well furnished, comfortable and well equipped with a secure enclosed garden."
Quiet area with plenty of walks for the dog.
-
"The house was very comfortable, close to the village with shops and pubs."
There is a horrible blind corner on the walk into the village where the pavement disappears but we found a safe alternative route walking through the beautiful churchyard we'd recommend. Further from Coldingham Bay than suggested, definitely more of a half hour leisurely walk. All in all a lovely week and a really lovely house.
-
"It would be better if there were instructions for the appliances, and information about local services and facilities."
-
"Some extra cutlery and crockery would be very useful if booked for the full compliment of people."
Wardrobe space a bit awkward for eight people.
-
"We love the area and enjoyed returning to old haunts."
The house itself was spacious and comfortable with plenty room for our grandchildren to have space to run about . The only suggestion I would make would be to leave instructions for all the kitchen appliances.
