"We had a wonderful stay in this perfectly appointed cottage."
It was immaculately clean and well equipped. The main bedroom has the most enormous comfortable bed with beautiful linen. The welcome pack and flowers was a lovely surprise. It is well situated for easy access to beaches, Ediburgh and the fabulous Kelpies. We only found one minor negative and that was that the wi-fi was a bit hit and miss and kept dropping out. Would definately come back here.

"The cottage was very clean and comfortable."
Had everything we needed. A good location for all the many local attractions eg Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth coastline.
-
"Lovely place to stay, comfortable and clean."
It could do with a full length mirror and a music player/smart speaker/radio. Overall it’s a 4* accommodation.
-
"A superb base for exploring the area."
Thoughtfully decorated to a high standard and well equipped. The generous welcome pack and fresh flowers on arrival much appreciated. The only niggle was the small bathroom and disappointing shower. However there was an additional toilet on the ground floor which was useful. The cottage had a lovely garden perfect for eating outside on a warm evening and was visited by the local bunnies, pheasants and a little robin we enjoyed watching at breakfast from dining window.
-
"A beautiful kept cottage, fully equipped, from kitchen utensils to plenty of clean towels."
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, not too far from Edinburgh, North Berwick, and lots of o beautiful places and beaches. So peaceful, and felt so relaxed. Host was very lovely, on arrival we were greeted with a lovely welcoming basket and the fresh flowers were a lovely touch. Thank you for allowing us to stay.
-
"Very well equipped holiday cottage - would recommend as a 5* property - Welcome pack and fresh flowers were really appreciated - Lovely quiet position yet very close to Edinburgh and North Berwick and Dunbar."
-
"Another great stay at this lovely cottage Facilities, decor and generous welcome pack first class"
-
"Great cottage, very quiet, but within 30-40 minutes of Edinburgh city centre and great coastal walks."
Really well kept and very spacious cottage and quiet. Key holder is on the back door for anyone arriving in the dark as it is very dark!
-
"A lovely cottage in a rural location."
Well equipped and clean with very comfortable bed. It is not walkable to any shops, pubs etc but only a short drive. Easy access via park and ride to Edinburgh and the coast at Dunbar. Also visited Rosslyn chapel and the Falkirk wheel and Kelpies. I would recommend this cottage.
-
"This was our second visit to Grieves Cottage and we are retuning next year."
The cottage is clean and comfortable and decorated to a high standard. The cottage everything you need for a self catering holiday. Bryony the owner of the property gave us a lot of information about walks in the surrounding area and provided a welcome pack when we arrived. We would highly recommend this cottage.
-
"Lovely cottage, recently refurbished throughout and perfectly clean."
All main things (washing up liquid, bin bags etc) provided and kitchen fully equipped. Even a Nespresso machine!
-
"Stunning cottage in a stunning location."
Kindly let a welcome pack on our arrival.
-
"We were delighted when we got to Grieves cottage."
It is very spacious could put a lot of our bags in the utility room and hang our coats and put our shoes in the small bit near the back door. The only down side was we couldn’t get a signal for my mobile but that’s not the fault of the owners. It was good having WiFii. It was lovely staying there and would recomend it to others.
-
"Peaceful, clean, comfy bedding and massive bed."
Off the beaten track but not too far away from the places you want to visit. North Berwick and Edinburgh a must.
-
"The cottage was beautifully kept and maintained."
Quiet in a lovely setting. The owners left us a welcome pack which was appreciated.
-
"A blind would be nice on the bathroom window, felt a bit exposed."
Also a dvd player as not much on sky channels on the package they have. Finally a name on the side of the cottage. We were parked outside and drove off only to come back 10 minutes later.
-
"Grieves Cottage is very well situated for touring the whole of East Lothian and access to Edinburgh and beyond."
Bryony, the owner, has put a great deal of thought into furnishing her property to a high standard. We enjoyed our stay so much that we promptly booked another week at a later date.
-
"We couldn’t fault this property, it was clean, warm and well equipped."
It was also very comfortable. We did however have to move the air freshener in the lounge to the cupboard under the stairs as one of us can’t tolerate perfumes. If you’re looking for a quiet location to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, The Grieves Cottage will tick every box.
-
"Beautifully decorated and equipped property, comfy beds, cosy log burner Very rural, quiet location within striking distance of great coastal walks at North Berwick and Dunbar."
-
"Our second visit to this lovely cottage."
The cottage was very clean and has everything you need if you are looking for a quiet break and long countryside walks - returning to a cosy fire. The owner is very friendly and the welcome basket was a lovely touch especially after a long drive. Edinburgh is a short drive away to enjoy a day out. Will be looking to book again for a third time!
-
"Excellent cottage, situated near the quiet village of Gifford."
-
"A really beautiful cottage, such a surprise when we arrived."
Very well decorated, spacious, clean and good facilities.
-
"Lovely cottage in a perfect quiet, rural location."
Excellent base for exploring the surrounding areas, heading into Edinburgh etc The cottage was clean and tidy and was well equipped for our stay. Everything you should need was available, the log fire was even ready to be lit (not that we needed it in August). There were a selection of books, games and puzzles. The fluffiest large bath sheets which smelt lovely and fresh. An unexpected welcome gift was the loveliest touch and we were very grateful for this. Has a utility room and I was able to do some washing, I hung it outside using the line but wouldn’t recommend this as it left green marks on the clothes. Slept the comfiest 7 nights of my life as the mattress was soooo comfortable. The bed is huge, managed to snuggle in the mornings with our 7 and 5 year olds (and hubby) and still had space! Highly recommend this cottage.
-
"Great cottage in a beautiful location."
Everything we needed for a week away. Small point but the kitchen scales needs a battery.
-
"Lovely cottage, owner, the welcome gifts were very much appreciated, can not praise the cottage and owner enough, thank you for a lovely holiday."
-
"This was a lovely cottage in a beautiful and peaceful location."
The accommodation was very clean, very comfortable and incredibly well equipped. Ideally located for travel to Edinburgh as well as many other lovely coastal places such as North Berwick, St Abbs etc. My wife, I and our two adult daughters really enjoyed our stay here. We would all recommend and would be more than happy to visit again. Thank you to the owner for such a lovely relaxing stay.
-
"Lovely clean, comfortable cottage, furnished to a high standard."
The kitchen is well equipped and the beds comfortable. There’s a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape from the large Velux window in the bathroom. The cottage is in a very quiet location a few minutes drive from Gifford and about 15 minutes to Haddington where the nearest large supermarket is located. Phone signal in the area is almost non-existent on Vodafone or Three, so if you’re looking to get away from it all - this is perfect. Wifi in the cottage works well though. The only slight downside is low water pressure for the shower, but that just means it takes a little longer to get ready. If you’re on holiday though, what’s the rush?! All in all very lovely, and the owners are nearby if needed.
-
"This was probably the best holiday let we have stayed in within the UK."
The property was finished to a really high standard and was warm and comfortable. Highly recommended!
-
"Accommodation was listed as Gifford but quite a bit outside in countryside."
Everything else was good but a bit disappointed with location.
-
"Great centre for walking very quiet."
-
"The Cottage was beautiful!"
Everything you would need from a Holiday home. The cottage was furnished to a very high standard. It is a perfect location for visiting lots of Scotlands attractions including Edinburgh Zoo & Blair Drummond Safari Park. However, on arrival we were slightly disappointed that the Cottage wasn't as clean as we would expect especially during the current pandemic. The full kitchen worktops and table needed a good wipe over! The kitchens small appliances, including the microwave was also in need of a good clean as everything was covered in a thick layer of grease! The bathroom shower head was rather mouldy, and needed some attention. I also had to clean both upstairs & downstairs toilets, as these definitely hadnt been cleaned upon our arrival. We felt that the property wasn't cleaned to a high standard, like most of the Sykes properties we have visited in the past 10 years.
-
"Top quality cottage."
Lovely owners, there was a problem with Sky TV but they sorted it promptly.
-
"We had a lovely week in this clean and comfortable cottage."
A welcome pack and fresh flowers greeted us. The linen and furnishings are to a very high standard. The kitchen is well equipped. There is a lobby and large utility room to store outdoor clothing and muddy boots, necessary given the damp conditions some days! The Grieves Cottage is in a quiet location but within easy reach of fantastic woodland walks, the open moorland, pretty villages, the coast and even Edinburgh. It was an area new to us, but we are already planning another visit.
-
"Stayed in this lovely cottage for four nights with my daughter."
Beautifully decorated cottage, plenty of room for 2-3 adults. The cottage is located in a great area, wonderfully quiet, loads of walks and only 2 miles from Gifford. There is one issue that I think the listing should mention, restricted height upstairs in the bathroom in particular. If I had been with my husband or son (6ft 4”) it would have been a huge problem. The master bedroom has no real problem with height, but you could not have two adults in the twin room due to height. The bathroom could be partially improved by removing the bath and just having a great proper shower, but using the loo could still be a problem.
-
"A really comfortable and cosy stay in a lovely location."
Well-equipped kitchen and very clean cottage - would definitely return!!!
-
"I was not impressed by the showering facility in the property."
Either than that everything else was perfect. We visited the the town of North Berwick a few times and I would recommend visitors to visit the Drift Cafe in North Berwick. It has amazing views overlooking the sea and coffee as well.
-
"We had a lovely week in Grieves cottage."
There were fresh roses and a hamper to welcome us. The furniture and furnishings were high quality and it was very comfortable. We enjoyed our visit from the owner Bryony, who popped in for a chat. Gifford is a lovely little town, and we loved exploring East Lothian and Edinburgh. We hope we can return.
-
"An exceptionally well-equipped cottage, beautifully furnished and maintained."
We had a wonderful stay in this quiet corner of East Lothian, high in the Lammermuir Hills and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the wider area. A gem.
-
"A lovely cottage, very well equipped, spacious and clean."
It is situated in the country and is perfect if one likes quiet surroundings. We would go again.
-
"Quiet and peaceful location."
Good sized rooms with plenty of space for 4.
-
"Beautiful cottage & surroundings."
Very well equipped with lovely, comfortable beds. We were welcomed with a handy little essentials basket with bread, wine & cheese included. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there.
-
"Great cottage."
Only one damp day, the others sunny. Quiet, out in the countryside. Lots of wildlife, great to see hares we don't down here. Close enough to the main places.Kelpies & Falkirk Wheel brilliant. Worth the long drive to the cottage.
-
"The cottage was lovely, very comfortable and well equipped."
It was tricky to find the cottage using the postcode, and although written directions were supplied it would be helpful if distances were added in between landmarks as we still found it difficult to locate! But, we would definitely book again as the location and cottage are wonderful
-
"My wife and I have been doing this for over 20 years and this accommodation is probably the best we have ever stayed in."
The photos don’t really do it justice and we both wish we could have stayed longer.
-
"We had a totally relaxing time in this superb cottage, surrounded by superb scenery."
We were made to feel so welcome by the owners and the cottage had everything you could possibly need. Will certainly look to stay again.
-
"Great cottage, we were made so welcome by a gorgeous Christmas tree and even a present for our little boy."
The cottage was so well equipped and spotlessly clean. We had a brilliant Christmas break.
-
"This wonderful cottage has all the conveniences of a 'home from home' and is set in a secluded area that is ideal for lovers of the countryside ."
It is also a great base from which to see all the surrounding area being only about 25 miles from Edinburgh and the great shopping and sights.
-
"I booked this cottage which on your site said NO PETS, I never book any holiday homes that accept pets as I am allergic to dog hair."
When we arrived, in the instruction folder left on the kitchen table it was stated “ DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DOGS UPSTAIRS IN THE BEDROOMS. I then checked on sites other than Sykes and found that they ALL advertised Grieves Cottage as PETS YES. This is absolutely unacceptable, please respond to this immediately.
-
"What a fantastic stay!"
It was so relaxing as it is in a quiet area and the stream running nearby makes the place even more tranquil. The owner is lovely, leaving some provisions for our arrival. It was a great base to visit all the tourist attractions that we wanted to see. We found the cottage to be fully equipped, modern and very clean. We couldn't have asked for more.
-
"Due to rural location post code is not end destination."
So when I ran Sykes office they were not very forth coming on getting a more pinpoint location. It took me a long time to convince the lazy phone operator to contact the owner to supply better description as was travelling late so would not be able to ask passersbys. Great cottage and owner, but poor back office.
-
"The cottage was in a quiet and peaceful location but not far from great walks and other places to explore."
The cottage itself was newly refurbished and was really lovely, with a rather nice secluded garden, which the photos do not do justice to. We had a great week here and would happily return. Owners were welcoming and helpful. Thank you for a lovely 6 days.
-
"Cottage is beautiful and the hosts very warm welcoming and very helpful."
The area is a hidden gem and we all had a fantastic week. We would absolutely recommend the cottage to anyone but please for those who stay here look after it so others can enjoy as well.
-
"Lovely welcoming & cosy cottage in a great location."
We were the first to stay in this cottage, so everything was new, fresh and clean! The owners were very friendly and helpful if we needed anything. Would definitely stay there again and have recommended to family and friends.
