  • "Lovely cottage which was warm, clean, fresh and well equipped."

Although there are a few miles of single tract road on the approach, we didn’t have much trouble. Well placed for lots of nice walks and midway between Shrewsbury and Ludlow. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Those relying on strong internet connection should be aware that due to the remoteness of the the property ,internet is variable. A nearby pub "The Bottle and glass", while dog friendly will not accept dogs in the restaurant , but you are welcome to eat in the bar area, we say that to avoid confusion when reserving a table ..

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your stay at The Old Workshop. I’m surprised to hear you had problems with the internet. The cottage has high speed Fibre Broadband and we have never had a complaint from previous guests regarding the connection. Streaming across multiple devices and also accessing Netflix and BBC iPlayer etc has never been an issue. If you had made us aware you were having problems connecting your device to the WiFi during your stay we would have been more than happy to help. We are only next door and always on hand to deal with any guest requests. Property Owner

A superb quiet location for walking and discovering the beautiful Shropshire Hills. We were 2 and a well behaved small dog. The cottage is compact, bright and cheery and has everything you need and would be really lovely in summer with the outdoor table and chairs. Despite being next to the owner Nicky’s property it manages to feel private. Nicky was very helpful throughout and the property has useful info for the surrounding area - walks and places to visit. We hope definitely to return.

Adjoining the owners home, it has its own private entrance and secluded patio area overlooking a lovely garden with views of the fields and hills beyond. It is so peaceful and we heard probably no more than half a dozen cars passing over the first couple of days we were there. We spent most of those first few days just sitting in the garden or walking locally and enjoying the beautiful weather. The owners were away, but kept in touch with us to make sure everything was as it should be and left a welcome gift of biscuits and fresh eggs from their hens (as we returned the key at the end of our stay we were amused to see a hen sitting on its eggs in a basket by the front door). Tea, coffee and milk were also provided which is always really appreciated after a journey. The Workshop is a few miles from the main road and accessed by narrow country lanes - we really felt we had 'got away' from it all. There is lots to do in the area, from hill walking to visiting local towns and villages. Some great pub lunches and cream teas available! We had a great week away would highly recommend this lovely cottage.

The place was perfect for a much needed break. We took our dog Teddy with us and I walked him on the wooded bridleway, which was just up the lane, every morning, while my husband stayed in bed.The four day stay was for him to chill out and destress after working incredibly hard recently and for me to do some walking. After breakfast we went sightseeing, there are so many places to visit in this area, we loved Ludlow and Shrewsbury we visited Ironbridge too. The countryside was gorgeous especially in the autumn colours. The cottage is beautifully decorated and so lovely to stay in. I loved the colour scheme throughout and all the lovely little touches. You have everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable. We loved the log burner in the evening and just chilled out with a glass of wine and watched movies. Very well equipped kitchen and cosy wood burner with inclusive logs supplied. Car parking easy with plenty of room for a larger car. The hospitality of Nicola and David was excellent. The welcome pack was there when we arrived; milk, and eggs from their chickens. Storage in bedroom was very good, with plenty of drawers, hanging and shelves. Although isolated the narrow roads into Church Stretton / Shrewsbury were well signposted and quiet; other road users were courteous. However be aware that the majority of the roads around are single track with infrequent passing places and can be muddy. Its best to rely on a map rather than a Sat Nav. Church Stretton offered a range of independent shops and plenty of walks. Transport services were well catered for with frequent buses and trains. Overall a very enjoyable week.

  • "The attention to detail in this holiday cottage was second to none."

It would serve as an excellent template for others to follow in providing the little comforts that make a cottage feel like home so quickly. For example: milk and eggs on arrival, tea bags, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, washing-up liquid, kitchen roll, hand soap, even moisturiser! We often don't know whether to take such things with us and it can be pot luck whether a cottage has them or not. But here it went even further - cling film and foil perfect for packed lunches, a mini pair of binoculars, a Bodum coffee maker, candles, a torch - there was nothing missing that we might have needed, and though only for two people there was enough cutlery and crockery not to have to wash up with each use, and utensils galore in the kitchen. Combined with the charming beams, oak furniture and co-ordinating soft furnishings, we felt quite spoiled! The secluded location made for a peaceful time and the surrounding countryside was a delight to explore, albeit initially by some very narrow, twisty lanes! Full marks to the friendly and helpful owner for making it such a lovely holiday cottage and still allowing pets.
