Absolutely beautiful setting with views of the countryside and church opposite. The photos of the inside of the cottage don’t do it justice!! It has a lovely big open dining/lounge area, big enough for the whole family (of 7) to sit and relax. The bedrooms were also a good size - the master (with the en-suite) is a gorgeous, huge, double aspect room. All the bathrooms/WC rooms were of a high standard and very clean. It has a well appointed kitchen with everything you need (we even used the slow cooker for one meal!) Overall an ideal base for exploring the area and enjoying family time. Many thanks to the owner as well - who gave lots of information about the house and the area. We hope to be back!

Beautiful countryside, but you will need a car at all times. Needed some extra dishwasher tablets (but the owner did offer to reimburse us if we bought some) and the single bed is a bit creaky, albeit very comfortable. Would thoroughly recommend - dark skies, peace and quiet, woodburner - glorious :-)

The Kitchen was well stocked with all the appliances for cooking our christmas dinner, wood for the fire, lovely walks just a shame we didn't have an extra day to explore more. The only down side for me was sleeping in the single bed, not sure if it was the base but it was very creaky!! But overall a lovely place to stay :)

We booked this as a base to explore the Shropshire towns and countryside and visit family just over the border in Wales. We were three generations, plus our dog, and all thoroughly enjoyed a very peaceful stay. We actually arrived, having travelled through a terrible storm with heavy rain and flooding on many roads. Despite this, it was like an oasis and once we settled, and the flooding abated, the rest of the week was brilliant.

Very comfortable bedrooms and good kitchen facilities. One minor inconvenience is that freezer/fridge doors hinged on right - if swopped to left then access less awkward . Otherwise a superb place !

We used the local shop and local pub, both very handy. There are walks directly from the house which was great for the dog. The church just across from the house was also interesting. Lots of seating and benches outside the house to sit out on. We had to ask the owner for an extra duvet, and he came out within hours - very responsive. Great week, thanks.

The cottage was as beautiful as ever, with everything we needed. It was extremely clean and maintained and a credit to the owners and staff. Norbury is an excellent place to find peace and tranquility. We felt a world away from any hustle and bustle, yet near enough to reach interesting places, with walks right on the doorstep. We were sad to leave but that only means we are that much closer to our next visit. Thank you for sharing your lovely cottage with us. Carole.

  • "This was the 2nd time that we had been to this property and we still think it is a lovely house and would consider returning."

However, we think in order to make it a definite potential 3rd stay for us, the following would possibly need to be addressed: 1/ The beds seem a little old and hard and some of the bedding (pillows and pillow cases in particular) is also uncomfortable and render sleep difficult. 2/ The owner's insistence on controlling the heating and guests' inability to access the central heating controls (cupboard locked) and fact that have to keep phoning the owner to adjust heating if weather changes could annoy a lot of potential guests as is quite tiresome and also means house is unnecessarily at the wrong temperature a lot of the time. We were only there for 3 days and the weather really varied in that time and at 1 point house was too hot and at other times far too cold. We have never stayed in another holiday house in which we cannot control the heating ourselves. We do understand, to a certain extent why this being done(current prohibitive energy costs etc). However, think this could prove a false economy for the owner as will stop some guests from returning. However, we still love this house, these comments are meant to be constructive suggestions and we would still consider returning.

Thanks for your feedback. The problem I have is that some guest think the beds are too hard whilst others think they're too soft Most think they're ok It's a bit like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. I can't provide mattresses that will suit all but I'll look into a better option The thermostat can be controllable by the guests however you may need to ask if it's not immediately obvious to you. I'm only a call away When you say the temperature was too hot and too cold it would have been set at exactly the same temperature of 21C so I can only comment that you can call and I'll tell you how to control the heating There is a free supply of wood for the wood burning stove and full instructions are supplied in order for guest to enjoy the benefits only this type of heating can provide. I do want everyone to enjoy their stay and I appreciate a new type of thermostat can be a bit confusing but there's no need to suffer in silence Thanks Stuart Property Owner

  • "It would be really useful when properties say they are dog friendly to know what, if any restrictions there are, because at this property as with some others dogs are not allowed upstairs which creates a big problem if your dog has anxiety issues."

We always have our own dog bed and he is never allowed on the bed but because he had to be downstairs he kept us awake. We only knew that dogs were not allowed upstairs when i telephoned the owner for the keysafe number. The garden was not dog friendly at all because it was not fenced which meant we had to keep him on a lead in the garden at all times so he couldn't escape . I chose this cottage because someone had said how soft the mattresses were but when we stayed the mattressess must have been changed because i found them uncomfortable because they were really hard, memory foam which played havoc with our backs as we are used to a soft mattress at home. Also, the water pressure in the area means that the showers are very weak and slow. We had some cold nights when we were away and found that the only way of controling the central heating was to texed the owner which when the phone signal is poor is more than irritating. I would prefer to be able to control the thermostat as and when we need to. There was a log burner which we had to use every day to warm the house in the evening. The setting for the house is lovely and the property was clean and the gardens well kept. There was a bottle of wine, eggs and milk in the fridge which i thank the owner for. There were plenty of cleaning products which was useful, one piece of advise i would say take some extra toilet rolls as there are not enough provided.

Friendly and solicitous owner, good welcome provisions. Facility for a real fire which would have been welcome were it not for the mild weather and very effective central heating that made lighting afire seem a tad wasteful. The house is well equipped and generally very comfortable, with only one qualification.. three of four in our party found the beds to be too soft. In one case this resulted in choosing to sleep on the floor. Normally I would not comment on this.. since bed softness is generally an issue of personal preference.. but for three of us to feel this is unusual (and we have been doing these trips for over 20 years). I did not get any sense that this softness resulted from excessively worn mattresses.. in fact they felt like quality items.. rather that they are naturally very soft. Some people may well love them and I should point out that the fourth member of our party was perfectly content, so “your mileage may vary”. In spite of this we would still consider rebooking this property, because in every other respect it worked very well for us, but would come better equipped for floor sleeping!

Turn right when leaving the cottage and you can reach almost anywhere from there. Log fire a real nice touch its easy to light and manage. We will book again. Already got one of our friends very interested in a holiday there. Thank you for such a lovely holiday. Neil, Kim, Elesha and Little Lilly Belle (Dog) Local pub nice but food a bit expensive for us. All the locals were extremely friendly. The Coach House (a two min walk) is worth a visit as was The Inn on the Green (a 25/30 min walk). There’s a BBQ at the cottage on a lovely patio area. If you’re taking your dog please be mindful they can easily escape as the garden is not “dog proof”. Bishops Castle is about a 10mins drive where you will find shops, The Three Tuns Brewery and when we went the village carnival was on! We had a lovely week and the weather was excellent. We found it very peaceful and relaxing. However, considering this was a 'doggy' cottage there was nowhere we could take our dog and let him off the lead which was disappointing. The cottage was surrounded by sheep farms and narrow lanes. The villagers were very friendly. Do visit Green Inn, opposite the little shop, situated about 2 miles from the cottage. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. We were limited for places to take the dog on days out also. We accidently (by following the sat nav) went over Long Wynn, so scary. with it's sheer drops down the side of the road, never again....
