  • "We loved our stay at Black Lion Barn!"

The attention to detail was spot on and we absolutely loved the farmhouse style, large space downstairs, and open plan living area and kitchen. Iona was so friendly, responsive and kind. We've already booked to come back in November.

Property very spacious, clean and well equipped. Beds very comfortable and games room was loved by all. With table tennis, table football, large TV, and loads of room for which older girls could practice their gymnastics and dancing. Grandson set up a table tennis tournament for us. • "Beautiful barn with yoga studio downstairs ."

Magnificent country views. Log wood burner , reclining settees and large dining table so we could all sit together at mealtimes . Uncluttered property with lots of good basics like towels , hairdryers , washing up liquid, coffee etc. There are 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms with options for a bath or walk in shower . The beds were especially comfortable ( and large) and outside there is a nice seating area that catches the sun. Well placed for country walks and a couple of nice country pubs . Just a short drive to Shrewsbury. We had a really wonderful time with great communication from the owner Iona who has clearly put a lot o.f thought into the conversion of this barn .. Perfect for large families or groups of friends wanting a relaxing getaway . Table tennis and games available for the kids . Thoroughly recommend and hope to return .

It is huge, beautiful and spotlessly clean! The open plan lounge/dining area/kitchen is brilliant - perfect for chatting, relaxing, cooking, playing games and enjoying the gorgeous view from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The games room downstairs was absolutely perfect for the four children with: table tennis, table football, bean bags, a tv and a few other foam games/activities - exactly what the children wanted after a day out exploring the local area. There are loads of local attractions to keep you busy as well as National Trust places and very local walks. Iona was a perfect host - emailing in advance as well as during our stay and also leaving a welcome gift for when we arrived. I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough.

Nine of us stayed at Black Lion Barn and it suited all ages . The grandchildren particularly loved the yoga/ games studio . Table tennis tournaments everyday! Perfect place to go walking locally and not far to go longer walks in the Shropshire hills. The Barn is extremely clean and very comfortable. Beds and bedding a very high standard . Plenty of bathrooms for a large group . We didn’t need to contact the owners about anything as it was just perfect . The best rental for us up to date . This is what a good rental is all about !!

Spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are stylish and beds extremely comfortable. We loved the open plan sitting/dining/kitchen with plenty of seating for the 8 of us that enabled us to be preparing supper and still be able to chat. Everything you needed in the kitchen and more (even a nutmeg grater!) Made use of the beautiful room downstairs where table tennis and table football played. So much to do in the area with stunning walks and great pubs. Can’t wait to come back, thank you Iona for being so welcoming and helpful.

  • "Perfect holiday retreat for a large 3 generation family comprising of 6 adults and 5 children aged from 19 months to 10 years."

Iona and Dan were fabulous hosts, very friendly and informative. The area is set within a farming community with a couple of local public houses. The children loved seeing the cows in the fields, opposite the barn. Parking is great we had 3 vehicles but there was room for more. One thing to be aware of is that the roads in the immediate vicinity are typical narrow country roads but once you are clear there are main roads with access to Shrewsbury, Ludlow and historic towns such as Ironbridge with its numerous museums, Bliss Hill a 'restored' 1900 village is well worth a visit. As a family, we holiday for a week every year and everyone agreed that this was the best location/property yet and there were a few tears when the time came to leave. We'd love to spend Christmas there but unfortunately they're booked for the next two years, still there is 2025...

  • "We enjoyed our 3 night break at the Black Lion Barn."

The barn was very spacious and well furnished with regard to the main accommodation. We did, however, feel that there was a lack furnishing in the yoga area, and would have preferred the larger tv to have been placed in the living room. While the bedrooms were well supplied some of the beds were too close to the walls, with little or no space around the bed. This was especially the case in one of the downstairs bedrooms. Overall, however, we were pleased with our booking and some of our party would look at re-booking for a family birthday.

Everything was beautifully clean, modern and warm. The log burner kicked out some serious heat and the we were provided a good stash of logs to keep us going. The kitchen is really well kitted out and my god the coffee machine makes good coffee!! The showers are instantly hot and really good water pressure (not the horrid dribble you can get in some places), and it didn’t make a difference if multiple people were having showers at the same time. The beds are really comfortable and the sound insulation is really good - you wouldn’t know you’re staying immediately next to a working farm. The owners were lovely on the phone. I think our only gripes were that we couldn’t find any larger bins outside to put recycling etc in.

The barn has been extremely well converted, to a high standard, and well equipped. The view from the floor to ceiling window in the lounge area was stunning. The only small matter I would mention is that if all 11 people had been there, I think it would have been challenging to cook meals for everyone, as the kitchen area is not very big, and the oven and microwave were quite small.
