The Sustonica certification focuses on four key areas: energy conservation, water conservation,

recognised sustainability standard for holiday rentals and a catalyst to reduce emissions of holiday
lets and influence guests to reduce their own household consumption too.
Properties that display the Sustonica badge have successfully passed the criteria,
which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards,

"A nice clean and comfortable apartment in a lovely garden."
Ideally located for exploring the surrounding area. The owners were very welcoming and helpful.
Only issue was the stairs up to the property were very tight and would be problematic for people with any mobility issues. The kitchenette is adequate if you don't wish to cook much and make sure you bring all food with you that is necessary for when you arrive.

"We stayed at Riverside, Stokesay, in the last week of April 2023."
The one-bedroom apartment is upstairs in the Old Vicarage; the stairs are narrow and quite steep with a return so would be difficult for anyone with poor mobility. That said, this is one of the nicest rentals we have stayed in. The owners are friendly and greeted us in person. The apartment features large rooms and high ceilings throughout, with large Georgian windows overlooking the owners' large garden. These are single-glazed except in the bedroom (secondary glazing). The property is on the A49 but we were not disturbed by traffic noise at night. The central heating works well and kept the place warm and cosy. There is a large shower room and separate WC. The bedroom features a 6'x8' bed with two large built-in wardrobes, so plenty of storage. The kitchenette, open plan with the lounge, is basic, featuring a mini-oven with hob and a microwave but we rustled up basic meals ok. Some visitors will no doubt prefer to eat out anyway. The views are lovely and the garden is alive with wildlife: birds on the nut feeders, pheasants and wild rabbits. There is a seating area for guests too. The wifi worked well except when the resident squirrels chewed through the phone line! This was fixed courtesy of BT. The property is next door to picturesque Stokesay Castle (EH), and there are walks from the property via the Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. Ludlow is nearby, Bishops Castle and Church Stretton/The Long Mynd/Cardingmill Valley (NT) are a short drive away. The property sits nicely in the south Shropshire hills AONB, and gives access to places in north Herefordshire too, such as Croft Castle (NT), worth a visit. We drive an EV and found a chargepoint in nearby Craven Arms, in the petrol station at Tuffin's supermarket. This has four plugs which seem to be little used so a charge is easy to obtain.

"Riverside was absolutely perfect for me."
The accommodation was spacious, spotless and comfortable and well located for exploring the area. Looking down on a beautiful garden I was delighted to be able to watch a wide variety of birds. Wonderful walking on the Long Mynd, Stiperstones and Clee Hills. The owners were friendly and helpful. I would love to return.

We appreciated the extras such as washing up liquid, toilet rolls, nice bed linen. Thanks for the delicious cakes as well. There is a lovely outlook over the river and Stokesay castle in the distance. It was also nice to see their shy little pony in its stable close to where we parked. Staying here we were able to explore lots of lovely places such as Shrewsbury, church Stretton, bishops castle, Powis castle, ellesmere lakes & canals and so much more. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

It was such a peaceful place to stay and the views from the windows were delightful. There was plenty of information about the best places to visit and food menues for local eateries for is to look through. Overall one of the nicest places i have ever stayed.

A lovely welcome with fresh home made cakes, just what is needed on arrival. The peoperty is ins a good central location for visiting Powys Castle, Hereford, Ludlow and many other historical places. We're sure time allowing that we will seriously consider returning and hopefully to this property in the future.

The property
This delightful Stokesay first floor holiday apartment is an annexe to the owners own Grade II listed former vicarage and is set in 6 acres of lovely garden next to the River Onny.
An ideal getaway for couples to enjoy a tranquil break amidst beautiful scenery and with plenty to explore.
Entering through a side door to the owners home, you have space for coats and boots before ascending the stairs to your own private accommodation.
The light and bright living room is attractively furnished with sitting, dining and kitchen areas and leads to a spacious bedroom, a lovely shower room and a separate cloakroom.
The garden is a haven for local birds and wildlife so there is plenty to catch your eye, if you are lucky you might even spot an elusive otter.
Across the river you can glimpse the lovely Stokesay Castle, one of the finest and best preserved medieval manor houses in England, and on a warm evening relax with a refreshing drink or rustle up a tasty barbecue in this delightful setting.
Sightings of Red Kites and soaring buzzards are common so keep your eyes to the skies!
Ideally placed for exploring the local area, there is much to see and do in Shropshire with an abundance of walks, cycle rides and birdwatching all set within areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Take time to explore the nearby popular market town of Ludlow with its varied architecture, plentiful bars and cafés, castle, riverside walks, racecourse and regular market days as well as its famous Food Festivals and brewery producing artisan beers.
Take a ride on the Severn Valley Railway from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, discover our industrial past at Blists Hill Open Air Museum near Ironbridge, stroll through the lovely streets of medieval Shrewsbury, birthplace of Charles Darwin or visit the market town of Church Stretton, popular with the Victorians as a health resort.

Stokesay is a historic hamlet just south of Craven Arms, famous for Stokesay Castle, a fortified manor house. The River Onny runs through the hamlet and the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is less than a mile away and is a popular destination for visitors wanting to learn more about this lovely part of the county. The A49 crosses the river, forming links with Shrewsbury, Ludlow and beyond to Hereford. The historic medieval market town of Ludlow is situated on the River Teme, amongst the outstanding countryside of the Welsh Marches. With more than 500 listed buildings, Ludlow’s medieval street pattern remains almost intact and provides a fascinating backdrop for the town’s regular street markets, held in the shadow of the castle and showcasing a range of goods - from cheeses and fresh produce to books and local crafts. Ludlow is renowned for its shopping, with a number of antique and art and craft shops, along with excellent restaurants and numerous tea shops, pubs and inns. Ludlow Castle is over 900 years old and contains fascinating examples of architecture while below, the Millennium Green offers a large public riverside green and the popular Green Cafe. This is a perfect base for touring all of beautiful Shropshire at any time of the year.
