• "Lovely ground floor property in an old stable block, great access and a wet room with chair provided, ideal for me as an amputee."

  Amazing bed, felt like my wife was in a different county, massive. Loads of hot water and really cozy, thanks to a bio mass boiler. Loads of local attractions with takeaways, pubs, restaurants, shops and petrol stations nearby. Host had left milk and lovely homemade cake to welcome us and came to sort out a couple of minor problems promptly. Lovely to be on a working farm and see the sheep grazing over the garden fence, but be prepared for a bit of noise and disturbance that goes with the rural life. Comfortable furnishings and large TV and decent WiFi service.

• "The Swallows Nest is a nice old building in the owner’s farmyard, and has all the necessary equipment for a pleasant stay."

  Caroline the owner is very helpful and when we arrived milk a nice slice of home made cake and a bottle of apple juice was waiting for us. The shower room is past its best but Caroline told us it was going to get refurbished shortly. The only thing that did spoil our time there was the noise of creaking floorboards from the flat above, we were woken up two or three times a night when the occupants got out of bed and moved about. Had no one been staying upstairs while we were there we would have been much happier.

  A bit more remote than we expected. Some local information about nearest shops, places to eat, walking etc. would have been useful and didn’t meet the owners so couldn’t ask. Some areas need attention, bathroom and garden in particular.

• "We had a lovely stay."

  The place was clean and tidy and we were grateful for some milk in the fridge, some local apple juice and homemade cake on our arrival. The place was exactly what we needed and was in a good location for visiting attractions. Despite being on a working farm, we didn’t feel disturbed by the dogs or other animals.

• "Comfortable property in good rural location ideal for exploring the local area on foot or by car."

  We walked the footpath from the property along Wenlock edge and explored the local areas of Ludlow castle and Stokesay castle. The property was very comfortable with everything we needed and an adorable view of the sheep grazing with their lambs next door. The owner was very hospitable and left us a lovely selection of Easter fairy cakes on arrival and the locally produced apple juice was very enjoyable and much appreciated.

• "This is my first experience of booking a cottage through Sykes and it didn't disappoint, in fact I found the package to be excellent value."

  Swallows Nest is located on the entrance to Strefford Hall, also a working farm. The host was super helpful in every way, nothing was too much trouble. The cottage was quite large for 1 person and a small dog and had all the comforts of home plus fantastic walks/runs which we could do over the beautiful Shropshire countryside. Craven Arms is the nearest locality for shops / pubs etc., you can walk there through the lanes as long as you have plenty of time as wouldn't recommend navigating the lanes in the dark, otherwise its a quick drive along the A49. The farm has 2 dogs which bark when someone enters/leaves but apart from that you don't hear from them, personally as a lone female I found this quite reassuring as you knew there was no one around if the dogs are quiet. I have already made another booking through the app, easy, stress free and definitely value for money.

• "In many aspects the property was fine."

  The bathroom needs a complete overhaul and the central heating system doesn’t work correctly, if at all (the radiators only warmed up once!). The farm dogs do tend to bark but that’s what dogs do! - don’t be put off by that - it didn’t worry our dog. Strefford itself is a very pretty little hamlet and for anyone who enjoys walking it’s a great place stay with loads of walks from the doorstep - we’d recommend the walk along the riverbank to Craven Arms - refreshments at Shepherd Hills cafe a must!! Overall we had a good time.

• "The property is in a great location, close to some interesting walks, towns and villages."

  Bedroom was very comfortable, and the bed and storage was excellent. The welcome pack of cake, milk and apple juice was very kind. The property is a barn conversion and the sound insulation is inadequate as noise from the Robins Nest above interfered with our enjoyment through the night and during the day, when TV and conversations were easily understood. This noise disturbed our dog and us particularly at night when creaky floor boards woke us all up! The proximity of the farm and the close vehicle access was unclear from the description and any movements of people or vehicles made the farmers three dogs bark - day and night! This disturbed our dog and ourselves resulting in a lack of sleep. The bathroom was in poor condition and lacked any shelving for soaps/shampoos etc in proximity to the wet room shower head. Towel hooks would be useful as the towel stand was too small for bath towels when wet. Somewhere to hang wet coats and hats would also be useful, during wet weather - which we experienced throughout our stay.

• "Did hear people walking around upstairs more so when we were in bed."

  The garden was very small for our dog it’s the smallest one we have ever encountered. Dogs opposite barked every time we went outside. Lights went out 3 times while we were there the trip switch kept tripping. Bed was very comfortable. Lot of flies might have been due to a dead sheep in a bin on the farm there was a lid on the bin but it’s head and legs we’re hanging out.

• "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swallows Nest."

  The cottage was well equipped and was really a home from home. Bed was very comfy. We loved sitting in the garden watching the goats. Caroline and John were always available if we had any queries. A few lovely walks from the cottage and plenty brochures from roundabout. The cottage is ideally placed for exploring Shropshire.

  Such as lamps in living room and bedroom and the bathroom could do with fresh flooring. The dogs at the main house bark at every movement which became a bit tiresome.

  Plenty of walks for our dog he loved it. Cottage was cosy and warm. Would definitley come back and stay. One area that needs looked at is the strip of mould beneath the shower that needs re done.

• "The flat was extremely well-equipped."

  We were able to do all the cooking we had planned and found some great local food to stock the cupboard at the Ludlow Farm Shop. The leather sofa and armchair were great to relax on at the end of a day's walking and the bed is very comfortable too. We liked being next to the farm and seeing the family going about their business. The dogs were eventually friendly too! There is plenty to do in the area. We enjoyed very varied walking: woodland, hills, river valleys, disused railways and lots of wonderful views as soon as you got higher up. The history of the area and the local geology are very interesting, with references to events 700 million years, 2000 years ago, and the last 900 years, depending where you go.

• "The cotttage is part of a working farm which is full of life from the farm animals to the wild ones which both my wife and I enjoy, there were no restrictions and we were allowed to wander arround and enjoy the activities."

  The owners were very obliging and let us borrow their BBQ which we prefer to cook on so the cooking smells were kept outside in the sitting area. The Swallows nest accommodation is on the ground floor and the Robins Nest accommodation on the first floor which seems a bit odd as normally Robins nest at low level and Swallows at high level but perhaps it is different in Shropshire. However the owners and their family were very friendly including their pet dogs who welcomed us every time we went into the yard area. The propertity is rustic in appearance externally but internally has a modern layout with seperate shower toilet area, small kitchen, roomy double bedroom and a huge living room. We were lucky with the weather and after our daily trips out visiting National Trust and English heritage buildings we came home and sat in the sunshine on the patio while we had our apperitif and cooked diner. Our neighbours upstairs were chatty and joined us one evening. They had been before and were planning to return in the autumn so they were very happy and so were we. So I would recommend anyone who enjoys farm life and animals it is a must go property. Thank you Caroline, John and family.

• "Ideal for someone having mobility problems."

  Welcomed with scones, butter, jam and tea. Milk in the fridge and when I had forgotten to bring bread they gave us some wholemeal bread that was gorgeous. The area is good for walking and very central to visit popular areas. The Shropshire visitors center in Craven arms ideal for walking dogs if you have mobility issues. The Acton Scott farm was equipped with of road scooter for anyone to use. The area is very dog friendly which includes cafes, pubs and museums. Overall we had a wonderful holiday and would like to visit again.

  It is a great base for exploring the area, the long Mynd and wedlock edge, walkers delight. Lovely welcome, flowers on the table , tea and cake in the kitchen. Tranquil location, occasional farm related noise but no traffic, no hubbub. Would definitely recommend.

• "Brilliant location, friendly welcome from owners (fresh scones butter and jam, plus a lovely vase of wild flowers nice touch) Dont worry about barks from the farm dogs - they both love a fuss."

  Enclosed garden perfect for our dog and with good walks from cottage door when he needed more exercise. I have family who visited and the owners were happy that they did. Cottage has plenty of space. We couldn't find instructions for DVD player and couldn't get that to work.

• "The Cottage was converted in the 90's, I don't think the bathroom has been updated since, the ceiling light didn't work and the only light was from the light on the mirror, the owner ( I don't know their name as they didn't introduce themselves ) was told twice, but nothing was done."

  The kitchen was good and the bedroom was fine, but the lounge area was oddly depressing, could be with some pictures and better lighting. We particularly wanted Wi-Fi, but we unable to connect during our stay, we are early rises and in the winter can pass a couple of hours in the dark, but once again the owner was most unhelpful. There is a sign of the farmhouse advising " Beware of the Dogs" they are right, 2 unpleasant dogs greeted us when leaving the cottage with hackles up and baring teeth, the owner assured us they were fine, but disconcerting, our dog was terrified of them. We decided we had had enough and left a day early, an expensive stay.

• "This cottage is in a fantastic location."

  it has all the amenities you could wish for speaking from a disabled persons point of view. ramp up to the extra wide front door and everything on the same level. the owners could not be more obliging and the quality of the meat from the farm shop is out of this world. take a meander into the little villages in the surrounding area. explore Wenlock Edge. You will not be disappointed. take into consideration the fact that it is a working farm and you will have a very enjoyable holiday
