"The property was very well maintained."
It is comfortable and warm ( our stay was mid October) everywhere was very clean and tidy. The property has all the facilities needed. The views from the property are wonderful. Would not hesitate to recommend this place
-
"A lovely clean comfortable cottage in a beautiful setting."
Mr Middleton was very welcoming and we had a peaceful warm and cosy stay. Everything was as described not disappointed at all. Fully recommend if you love peace and quiet and beautiful countryside.
-
"The Byre is a clean and comfortable cottage in a secluded position with fantastic views of the Long Mynd."
The many goodies were greatly appreciated. The owner lives next door and has a wealth of information when needed.
-
"We loved it, the cottage was lovely, with scenery to die for."
Bob the owner was brilliant. (We had a little problem With the boiler). The instructions on how to get there from Church Stretton were sketchy to say the least! Infact Bob had to come and look for us to guide us in. It may be an idea to advise people that it is miles away from nowhere? Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Our second visit to this property."
Nice and clean, very well equipped. It’s in a lovely location great for some peace and quiet. Excellent walking from the door and ideally situated to explore this marvellous part of Shropshire. The owners should be proud, they work hard to maintain a great holiday home.
-
"The Byre Cottage is absolutely first rate!"
Clean, spacious and comfortable. The location is isolated, but peaceful and stunning. You're only a few minutes away from The Long Mynd. We had an unforgettable holiday here and hope to return some time.
-
"Highly recommended."
A lovely clean spacious comfortable cottage in a beautiful quiet rural location with super views. A great base for walking (including direct from the cottage) and exploring the countryside and attractions of Shropshire. It is a little off the beaten track, but that is part of it's attraction for those who appreciate it. The nearest pub (The Crown in Wentnor) was closed when we visited, but the Bridges on the other side of Adstone Hill is well worth a visit. As others have said, Bob (the owner) who lives next door is very friendly and helpful.
-
"This was our 4th trip to the Byre and we still love it."
It is in a rural location so you need to be fit and able to walk the lovely Shropshire Countryside but the property is wonderful, well appointed and quiet. IT is a shame the pub in the village (the Crown) is closing but The Bridges (a short 30 min walk over the hill) is also very good. We will be back!
-
"The Byre provided all we needed for a comfortable holiday in furniture , technology local information , and most importantly for me local map."
It is in a wonderful location with walking from the cottage and central for many attractions
-
"Super base for walking and sightseeing in a wonderful location."
Thank you
-
"A credit to its owner"
-
"Great stay well maintained boiler bit noisy"
-
"A great property to stay in."
Everything you need is provided. It's very clean and the only reason I gave 3 and not 4 for comfort was the bed was very hard which didn't suit us but that's our preference.
-
"Lovely place to stay and access the Shropshire hills."
Remoteness and quietness a plus.
-
"A comfortable, spacious rural retreat."
Beautifully quiet. The owner was helpful and the goodies on arrival were really appreciated. I’d happily go back.
-
"A lovely rural retreat in the hills of shropshire, with plenty of local walks in the vicinity."
We really enjoyed the Adstone Walk, which is waymarked and starts near the Byre. The Inn on the Green is 5 minutes drive away, and provides good hearty pub food. Perfect, and just what we needed for a relaxing week.away. The welcoming touches of flowers, wine and chocolates were also greatly appreciated. Highly recommended.
-
"The owner, who lives next door, was very polite and friendly and welcomed us when we arrived."
..The Byre cottage was exactly like it's description, warm, cosy and so very clean and the generous welcoming gestures of chocolates and wine etc just added to a really nice stay.Surrounded by fantastic views of The Long Mynd hill and lovely countryside, it was just the tonic we needed, away from our busy lives in Kent....Thankyou,and we hope to return one day,all being well!
-
"Well equipped cottage in a stunning location, would highly recommend."
-
"We like country walks and peace and quiet when we go away."
This cottage was in a perfect location for that and was one of the most spacious we have stayed in. The owner was friendly and approachable, and the cottage had everything we needed plus the welcoming goodies which was a very nice touch. If you wanted to use the car the setting was ideal to visit places like historic Ludlow where they have regular market days, you could also walk by the river and if you're lucky, as we were, watch the Kingfishers.
-
"Thank you for such a wonderful stay (our 3rd)."
The Byre is always spotlessly clean, the welcome items always appreciated and the location is fantastic. If we were to be really picky, all we could suggest as an improvement would be a small shelf in the shower for toiletries. We absolutely love the remote location and both the Crown and the Bridges are superb and friendly pubs within walking distance.
-
"The cottage is lovely and the location is beautiful!"
I gave top score for the accuracy of listing but I have to say the cottage looked a lot nicer than what the photos show.
-
"Lovely cottage, situated in a beautiful location."
Very well equipped and a great base to explore the area either on foot or by car. Very helpful owner, available if you have any queries.

"A lovely cottage in a beautiful place."
Very clean, spacious with all the things you would need with some extras. Really lovely feel. I was so pleased to find the hot shower with a decent pressure! Friendly owner who was very helpful. The bed was a little firm for us though.
-
"Beautifully presented cottage in an amazing peaceful location."
The owner (Bob) was friendly and informative. Once you find the best way to reach the main roads (Thanks Bob) it is a perfect place to relax and enjoy. Highly recommended.
-
"A great holiday cottage."
Very clean and the furniture was all intaste. Bob the owner was very nice too. Lots of info on things to do and see and maps for walking. Lovely sized rooms and decorated nicely too. Open beams and windows and french doors that open from the kitchen diner onto a seating area and large gated garden. Four post bed and lovely bedding. The only niddle I had was for me the bed was quite firm but I still slept well. Plus for some people they may not like not having a dish washer. But it is only for two. On arrival we was given fruit, milk, chocolates and wine, plus there was coffee and tea and sugar. Set on a deadend road so no passing traffic. Surrounded by fields and hills the view from front and back are wonderful. Loads of walks and bird life. What more could you want
-
"Such a cosy and peaceful location that we were pleased to revisit once again."
We really enjoyed the walks from the door again. Also an ideal base for visiting tourist attractions in the area.
-
"The Byre has got everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday in the most peaceful and beautiful surroundings."
-
"The bed and pillows were a little bit to firm for us but that is just a personal thing, everyone is different."
Lovely little extras.
-
"Beautiful cottage in a stunning location!"
The owner was very friendly and welcoming! The cottage was just what needed as a warm and comfortable base in this magnificent walking area.
-
"Wonderful cottage in a stunning area."
The owner was so helpful and the cottage was so clean and homely.

"The Byre was wonderful!"
Beautiful location, fantastic accommodation and such a warm, friendly welcome.
-
"Great place Great views from the cottage"
-
"Set amid the picturesque Shropshire hills the cottage is well positioned for walks."
It is warm and cosy and very well equipped. A wonderful holiday - I highly recommend and will certainly return
-
"After driving up , and i mean up"
-
"Just wow, the accomodation was lovely, everything had been anticipated and provided for."
Would not hesitate to go back here again. Booking was straight foward, all relevent info was provided. If you want a beautiful quiet getaway, this is perfect. Went with a non walker who still enjoyed the walking we did do. Shropshire is very picturesque, it has loads of lovely places to visit within a short travel. Rolling hills, so many pretty villages and so old, a rural paradise.
-
"This was our 2nd stay at The Byre and we enjoyed it just as much as our first stay."
-
"Good - beautiful location, bedroom fittings fine."
Bottle of wine and chocs. Bad - general furnishing at charity shop level, although clean. Dark interior. - kitchen equipment - just 3 or 4 none matching mugs of small size. Only 2 small wine glasses which are refugees from a 1960's Berni Inn. - No WiFi for 3+ days. Owner said "Not my priority" and "I dont use it". More no-band than broadband and unhelpful response. - apart from some maps and old leaflets, no info on local pubs etc or even waste / recycling requirements. Far below standard of other Sykes Cottages we have visited. Won't be back!
-
"The location of this cottage was ideal for us as we love to walk."
Could go from the cottage in all directions. Beautiful views. A quiet remote gem.
-
"The cottage was very spacious and well appointed."
Wonderful location with marvellous far reaching views all round. Bob the owner was very friendly and helpful. Storm the not so great sheepdog was lovely and epitimised the chill factor surrounding the cottage. Crown Inn pub in Wentnor great and we ate there on last night, good food and service. Would highly recommend this cottage.
-
"I have marked accuracy of information down simply because the photos do not give a true representation of the property."
It is stunning. Strongly suggest new photos.
-
"This was our 2nd visit to this property so we knew what a high standard it met."
highly likely we will be booking it again very soon!! If we could offer one request (although we are nit-picking a bit), it would be nice if the kitchen and bread knives were sharpened. Otherwise, this is a truly outstanding cottage in a lovely area, surrounded by lovely, friendly people.
-
"Views. Views."
Views. The setting of The Byre is stunning with gorgeous views from front and back doors. As others have said the photos are out of date and the cottage is much nicer than the photos show. Spacious, comfortable, well equipped and clean. We enjoyed every second in the cottage. The walks from the doorstep are fabulous, with other great walks a short away. Perfect for walkers who like being a little remote. So quiet and peaceful and a clear night gives beautiful stars too. All in all - superb.
-
"Lovely quiet location for walking and exploring"
-
"If you like peace, tranquility, beautiful surroundings and comfort, then The Byre is the perfect holiday accommodation for you."
The accommodation is bigger than what it appears on the pictures.
-
"This cottage is ideally situated for those seeking peace and quiet, escape from the hubbub and who enjoy walking and exploring quiet paths and lanes."
It is off the beaten track, yet close to small market towns such as Bishops Castle. The cottage is simply furnished and spacious for two.
-
"Difficult to find but worth it"
-
"Great location for walking"
-
"Beautiful cottage in stunning scenery."
-
"Everything was absolutely perfect, we wanted for nothing."
The owner was so welcoming, leaving us lots of treats, which we really appreciated. Very quiet and comfortable, fabulous walks from the door and a cosy pub down the lane.
-
"The Byre was a really comfortable base for exploring the surrounding area and our host was very friendly and welcoming."
Thank you for such an enjoyable week.
-
"Cottage bigger than it appeared in photos"
-
"A lovely and comfortable cottage in a beautiful location."
The photos don't do it justice. Lots of walks and interesting things to do nearby, we had a super holiday with lots of activities and plenty of relaxation at the cottage. Bob the owner was really nice and the welcome pack of milk, flowers, wine and chocolates much appreciated. We would love to stay again.
-
"This was a lovely holiday."
Perfect location, peaceful yet close enough to a good pub and lovely long walks. Highly recommended!
-
"Our second visit to this outstanding yet very unspoilt area."
Fabulous walks straight from the Byre, interesting wildlife and good access to nearby towns of Leominster, Shrewsbury and Ludlow good historical connections.
-
"The cottage was lovely and the owner really friendly and a delight to talk to, we will very likely book another trip there very soon."
The directions to the cottage given by Sykes were spot on and we would encourage new visitors to follow these rather than your sat nav. Sat Nav is likely to take you over the Long Mynd which is not for the faint hearted when you are just arriving. If we were to be super critical, a nice to have in the cottage would be a little bit more information regarding such domestic things as bins /recycling but we are really nit picking here. This is a lovely cottage in a lovely area and well worth visiting.
-
"Very well appointed accommodation!"
The little touches added by the owner was a very welcomed surprise. Beautiful and clean! Amazing panoramic views from the cottage were breathtaking!
-
"A comfortable cottage surrounded by wonderful scenery with walks from the front door."
A friendly welcome from owner. Perfect peace and surprise encounter with brown hare directly outside patio doors.
-
"A beautiful, well appointed cottage with every thought provided for our comfort, set in spectacular countryside."
The wine, milk, chocolates and fruit provided were a much appreciated extra touch. Any minor glitches were dealt with quickly, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.
-
"Cottage was very clean and comfortable and the owner very welcoming and friendly."
Welcome pack extras were very much appreciated and a nice touch. The walking locally is brilliant and it's great to be able to walk somewhere so lovely from the door of the cottage. Complete peace and quiet in beautiful countryside.
-
"The lovely cottage, location, and friendly owner and his lovely dog"
-
"Very clean comfortable accommodation in a lovely rural area with a very welcoming owner."
-
"Great area for cycling / walking , very quiet ."
-
"We booked this cotttage as a last minute decision and therefore did not have great expectations, but WOW what a find."
The place is in an area of outstanding natural beauty with excellent views over the Long Mynd, and totally peaceful and quiet. There is NO light pollution at night, no traffic and even no rural noise and we had the BEST sleep you coulld wish for in a very comfortable bed. The cottage is well equipped, very clean and comfotable and the owner friendly and helpful. We had a lovely, unexpected welcome package of milk, tea and coffee, flowers and even a bottle of wine and chocolates. Although quite remote, the cottage is within easy reach of Craven Arms, Church Stretton and Bishop's Castle. Even Shrewsbury is only half an hour's journey by car. For walkers the place is heaven. I would highly recomment this lovely place.
-
"Lovely cottage , very relaxing ."
Great little touches , could not have been better.
-
"Beautiful cottage set in lovely remote countryside."
Very well equipped with some lovely welcoming extras like wine chocolates and milk on arrival. Would recommend the Byrd to anyone visiting the Shropshire Hills and we would definitely consider returning here at some point in the future.
-
"The owner was really friendly and as soon as we opened the cottage door we felt at home."
The Barn was delightful and absolutely spotless. The views and grounds were lovely too.
-
"Having already stayed at the Byre [ 2 years ago ] ensured that a return visit was essential before too long [ We are both mid-octogenarians !"
! ]. The location is splendid, the property the best we have ever used and the tranquility was a necessary ingredient. We admired the cheerfulness of the walkers passing by [ we used to walk a lot when we were alive !! ]. Bob continues to be most friendly and helpful. The surrounding area is outstanding and in our opinion a "forgotten" or " overlooked" part of the country. Sadly the distance from home is what it is - lengthy. Never-the-less hopefully we may return. - that in itself says it all . Weather-wise and ALL things considered - Perfect.
-
"Beautiful location, cottage all as described."
Perfect for quiet break for couple. Left most relaxed and definitely a place we’d return to.
-
"It was a beautiful cottage, ideal walking area we didnt have to use the car."
Photos dont do justice to the property. Little extras were lovely as well.
-
"The cottage was splendid both in the level of comfort it provided and in its lovely, peaceful location."
-
"Cottage lived up to its outstanding reviews and the location was excellent"
-
"This area was a first time visit, the Long Mynd hills are amazing lots of walking from door, will return for another visit to the same cottage as it was so comfortable."
