"Had a lovely stay at Alice Cottage."
Beautiful thatched cottage with unique features from the stained glass windows to the lovely artwork and window dressings, The miniature door in the hall skirting board is delightful carrying on the "Alice in wonderland" theme to a tee. The only suggestion I could make would be to have an outside light at the side entrance for those who stay there on the dark days in winter but having said that, the property information does advise taking a torch, which we did, so it wasn't a big problem for us.

"A beautiful cottage very well equipped and so comfortable."
The location was idyllic so quiet and peaceful apart from the “rush hour” which could be as many as two tractors a day! The garden area was excellent for the dog she loved running around and we were reassured that she was completely safe.
-
"Comfortable but only half the cottage is dog friendly."
No dogs allowed on the bedroom half.

"Absolutely lovely cottage."
Garden was nice and big and great for the dog, as it was enclosed and he could have a good run round by himself. Pretty orchard with plum tree and apple trees. Asked the housekeeper and we were able to have some apples to make a pie, which was very nice. Cottage kitchen had everything we needed. Oven easy to use and plenty of pans etc for cooking. Scary top shelf of dishwasher, where you would normally put glasses, mugs etc. as it tips out and down annd things fall forward. Luckily no breaks though. Fridge was extremely cold and froze the veggies and cream we had. Beautifully decorated throughout, love the ‘Alice’ theme. Bedrooms lovely and nice large bathroom, although shower did take ages to drain away. Tiles and wooden floors excellent with a dog. Really enjoyed the area, lots of day trips out but not enough days in the week to do everything! Minehead has a nice pebbly beach, part of which is ok for dogs to run and play. ‘Albert’s’ walk is just outside of house, a little wooded pathway with a stream running alongside. Very pretty and you walk past sheep fields too. It takes you though little park areas all the way into Minehead. Had a great time :) thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we're pleased to hear you had a great time at Alice Cottage. We're attending to the issues you have raised and we're pleased to let you know we have installed a new dishwasher! We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner

"Lovely and clean."
Angie the property manager was on hand immediately when we had a minor problem. Great location and good garden for dogs or just sitting in
-
"Beautiful cottage with the most wonderful garden and properly fenced so we didn’t have to worry about the dogs."
Didn’t find the TV very easy to navigate. We found the bed very comfortable indeed. Always plenty of hot water.
-
"The property is very good, the grounds and fencing are excellent for the dogs, and the walks and surrounding area are excellent for us and the dogs, and I've already booked the return holiday for next year."
...Excellent.
-
"What a beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting."
The cottage is in a very secluded and private setting and not overlooked in all directions, yet within easy reach of all local amenities. Minehead seafront is only 1.9 miles away which made this a perfect location for me to go on my own with my 10 year old grandson. There is also a woodland walk within 50 yards, literally walk out of the gate near the back door and turn left. Inside, the facilities are lovely and comfortable, bright & light and surprisingly spacious. Altogether a very special property in an ideal place to explore this beautiful part of the country.
-
"Very pleasant and tranquil spot, with enclosed garden and plenty of amenities within easy reach"
-
"Very nice cottage, but it is first holiday cottage after many many years holidaying in cottages that we have not been offered a change of towels or bedding for a 14 night stay the first week was very wet weather nowhere to dry washing our own towels for dog."
Dishwasher had rusty drawers and very unstable to pull out to load it.where you park your car should have some stone down has it was very muddy for ours and dogs feet it would not take much to improve that we are yust to countryside as we are farmers and they could easily sort this out,you don’t want muddy feet every time you go out in the car.
-
"Delightful comfortable cottage with a really lovely secure garden."
Beautiful countryside with lots of places of interest and excellent walking in the surrounding area. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend
-
"Alice Cottage is a little gem."
Secluded, yet only one mile from Minehead.Comfortable cottage with some quirky features, and a secure garden for dogs. Very nice facilities, making it a home from home.We are looking forward to our third stay this September, and have already booked a stay for next May.It's a popular place!
-
"Lovely cottage, well equipped and comfortable."
Big bonus of having a lovely garden. Good position for exploring the area.
-
"We had a fab stay at Alice Cottage."
The garden was a great size for us and our dog. Huge main bedroom. Great bathroom. Having a wood burner was a massive bonus and was well used by us.
-
"Although I’ve been visiting family in Porlock and Minehead for over 20 years I’ve never been to Bratton."
What a perfect location especially if you want to stay somewhere quieter. Alice Cottage was perfect in every way. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Angie who takes care of the cottage was extremely kind and helpful. Would highly recommend

"Alice Cottage was a delightful place to stay over the Christmas holiday!"
We appreciated the Christmas tree and welcome items but more so the beautiful cottage and the welcoming call from Angie to check if we needed anything, well deserving of its good rating! Our three dogs (two Spaniels and a miniature Yorkie) adored the garden, the nearby beaches, and walking routes from and near the cottage - we found there were a lot of places to visit/eat out that were dog-friendly as well. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a peaceful time away in a warm and cosy home.
-
"Big rooms lovely comfortable home, great garden for dog, Everything we needed."
experience from other holiday lets I took tea towels, bin bags, kitchen towel etc and didn't need it everything there. Great holiday home.
-
"A charming thatched cottage in a lovely location."
Ideal for anyone with a dog as the garden was large and enclosed and a walk directly into the woods from the side gate of the property. We throughly enjoyed our weeks holiday. There were many lovely locations to visit. Thank you to all concerned.
-
"Such a lovely cottage in a superb location Secure and dog friendly garden ..."
Such a lovely cottage in a superb location Secure and dog friendly garden Kitchen well stocked with pots & pans etc Weather was not the best so we didn't make the most of the garden but that didn't spoil our holiday we had many lovely walks to minehead We hope to go back next year
-
"This was a lovely cottage in a great location if you like peace and tranquility."
I am very tall but the bed was comfortable. The garden is well kept and great and secure for our dog. One of the garden chairs could not be used as it had some missing screws hence the mark of 4 for maintenance. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and would return if we come back to Somerset.
-
"Excellent location and ideal property in which to relax and unwind."
Alice Cottage is a delightful holiday retreat.
-
"Alice Cottage is in wonderful area of Somerset, very peaceful with a lovely very safe large garden for dogs."
It could be better if it had some garden furniture so you could sit outside in the evening with a glass of wine and eat a meal as only three foldup chairs are supplied. The dishwasher top shelf fell out on its first use as the wheels that support it where in the bottom of the dishwasher. The plastic coating on the top shelf is falling off exposing rusty metal, not very hygienic! The caretaker was informed of the situation, we were told somebody would take a look, left the wheels on kitchen work surface on departure as no feedback from caretaker. The freezer needs a defrost. We were asked to use the cooker hood when using the hob. When this was pulled down it was evident that it had not been cleaned for some time as it was very sticky to the touch. One of the sofas had to be moved to retrieve a dogs ball, on doing so it was obvious it had not been moved for some time as it had a build up of dust, dog hair and a few clothes pegs, not good. The waste pipe from the shower requires some attention as when showering you are always standing in a few inches of water. My wife and I have stayed in quite a few of Sykes properties over the years and Alice Cottage was a disappointment.
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding your stay at Alice Cottage. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the area and the garden and we are sorry that you didn't find the garden furniture provided. Although this feedback is out of line with the other feedback we receive for Alice Cottage, we have taken time to address all the points you have raised. The dishwasher has been checked and is now fully functioning, and the shower has been replaced. We hope to welcome you back to Alice Cottage in the future. Property Owner

"I wish we had found Alice Cottage years ago."
A little gem nestled in a tiny hamlet, surrounded by tranquility, yet only 1 mile from Minehead.Beautiful Cottage, tastefully modernised, comfy bed,and well equipped bathroom. Our three dogs loved the safe, fully enclosed garden, and local walks. Alice Cottage is well placed to visit other beautiful areas, Dunster, Porlock ,Lynton and Lynmouth, amongst others. We will definitely return next year, and wish we lived there!
-
"Alice Cottage is a superb thatched hideaway with many hidden, quirky features (keep your eyes peeled for a fairy sized door)."
Very dog friendly, garden was spectacular. We loved the fact the ford entered the bottom end of the garden where we relived our childhood every time we left and returned playing ‘Pooh sticks’. Alice Cottage is a warm, inviting and cosy place to relax after long walks of which there are many! Double bed was very comfortable leading to great night sleeps. Angie, the housekeeper was brilliant and was on call when we needed her. Overall great value and we will be returning

"5 star accommodation Beautiful location Fabulous Hosts"
-
"Absolutely beautiful cottage, well appointed, large comfortable bed, very dog friendly environment."
Magical place with Alice in Wonderland theme: could easily live here surrounded by the lovely countryside.
-
"Thank you for an excellent week at Alice Cottage."
We were very warm and comfortable, the cottage is very clean and well-equipped. We enjoyed various walks from the door, and others just a short drive away. Highly recommended!
-
"Beautiful cottage and garden."
Fantastic location, perfect for people and dogs.
-
"Alice Cottage is in a very unique setting."
The garden is ideal safe area for your dog. The single bed duvet needs replacing however that is my opinion. It was our second Xmas visit and the Xmas tree was beautiful., also the treats. Plenty of walks on the doorstep. As it rained most of the week although we did get a few walks in we did look to the tv for entertainment in the evening , unfortunately it is not a smart tv and unable to view films or catch-up, I doubt the modem would have been unable to cope with a film as we lost signal for phone and iPad,a lot, also the small screen trying to read the tv guide made us strain to read the print. Again this is our opinion.
-
"Lovely and clean, with all the bits and bobs you need to be self sufficient."
Really comfy beds, nice deep bath, log burner with ample stack of wood. Neighbours were really lovely and welcoming. Just a lovely stay.
-
"2nd visit to Alice cottage, it's a beautiful cottage, with a lovely enclosed garden, perfect position, unfortunately for us we won't be visiting again."
However lovely the cottage is, it was let done massively as it wasn't clean, in need of a deep clean throughout the property and new items bought for the kitchen, also shower drain broken,. When we arrived the kitchen light wasn't working, and the outside light too, the caretaker did attend the next day, turned the outside light back on, not sure why this was turned off, also organised for a electrican to attend on the Monday and he put up a new light. Just don't feel full checks were made throughout the property ahead of our stay, Such a shame as it's such a lovely cottage, attention to detail just wasn't there.
Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed the cottage and its location. We do wish that you had made our housekeeper aware of any cleanliness issues during your stay, as she would have done all she could to have rectified this for you at the time. The cottage has been incredibly busy with bookings throughout the year and now as we are nearing the end of the season, it has been completely redecorated inside. Property Owner
-
"Idyllic dog friendly cottage situated in a quiet country lane about 5 minutes' drive from the centre of Minehead."
Very well equipped, clean and tidy. We found the cottage a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside, towns and villages with the obligatory daily visit to Blue Anchor beach so the dogs could have a cooling swim. Would highly recommend tis cottage to anyone, with or without dogs.
-
"A lovely cottage & cool sanctuary from the recent heatwave."
-
"Steps down to bathroom mentioned in detail no hazard strip on floor wife took a tumble, a short handrail would help."
Mattress on double bed very old and worn out ,full marks to Angie when told who had it replaced . Sheets old and frayed . Corners of rooms cobwebs and spiders . Lounge suite disgusting, lifted cusions to clean they were torn badly with stuffing coming out . No shaving point . Lacking in wardrobes , Dressing table would be good . Shower clearly old and in need of replacement. In general the whole cottage needs full refurb both in decoration and furniture replacement . Worst accommodation we have experienced with Sykes
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I’m sorry to hear you encountered a few issues during your stay. We have investigated all issues you have mentioned and have made the appropriate changes where deemed necessary. Property Owner

"In the cottage handbook it wasn’t made very clear about rubbish disposal."
We worked out that the recycling was to go in a blue bag, but there wasn’t a blue bag there. With my mobility problems access to the toilet was difficult due to the steps, especially three times every night. This should have been stated in the advertising as some disabled people just wouldn’t be able to get to the toilet. The bed was very squeaky and the quilt cover fabric was rough, and pillowcases, I had to use a pillow from the other bed. Overall we loved the sheep, the ford and the gorgeous little bridge.
Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you encountered some issues during your stay, had we been made aware of these issues at the time, we could have tried to rectify them for you during your stay. The three steps down to the bathroom is mentioned on the website. We are glad that these issues didn't spoil your enjoyment of the location. Property Owner
-
"Lovely cottage."
Perfect for walking, both from the cottage and driving further away. Very peaceful garden. All the equipment worked very well, but the Wi-Fi was very slow. My mobile worked well from the garage.
-
"Lovely cottage in a great location."
This was our fifth stay. Our dogs loved the safe garden.
-
"We had an amazing week at this beautiful cottage."
-
"It is a beautiful cottage in a lovely setting - close to Minehead yet really quite remote at the same time."
Our disadvantage was that we came at a cold damp time of year so were unable to take advantage of the lovely garden. It's a great place for walking too- many routes can be started from the house - we went to Selworthy Beacon and Dunster Castle from the cottage.
-
"We loved our stay at Alice cottage."
It was our first holiday with the dogs and was a little apprehensive about how secure the garden was as Reggie a.k.a Houdini can usually find a way out but the lovely garden managed to keep him safe. We had some lovely walks and many pubs and restaurants in nearby towns and villages welcome dogs. The cottage is very spacious and the perfect place to chill with your dogs. Angie was very helpful kept in touch by text to make sure we arrived ok. As it was February and the weather wasn’t great it would have been nice to have a SMART TV but I’m sure it wouldn’t be needed in the summer when we hope to return.
-
"All was perfect!"
The situation, property and safe big garden worked really well for us and our dogs. We are also very grateful to the owners for being so accommodating. We hope to return as we were very impressed with the area, which was new to us.
-
"Absolutely Fabulous."
We enjoyed our stay as usual thank you. The chocolates were a nice touch
-
"Lovely cottage."
Sofas getting rather dated and uncomfortable. Fire not a glass seen wood burner. Although supply of logs much appreciated.Housekeeper superb along with Gardner. Bedroom great and neighbours lovely. Love to return in January if smaller glass wood burner installed. Garden superb, location and parking superb! An absolute gem in all respects and We would love to return . Housekeeper second to none.
-
"Our stay for Xmas was wonderful, a beautiful location."
There was a Xmas tree and plenty of logs to last the week. There was plenty of rain, however we were still able to get around after Xmas day and walk our dog who enjoyed the freedom of an enclosed garden. We have booked for next Xmas. There are plenty of supermarkets within a mile drive.
-
"Need internet booster."
Surprised there was no welcome pack such as milk bottle of wine although there was coffe and tea in containers, not very hygienic during covid pandemic.
Thank you for your feedback, which is being discussed with the owners. Had you made us aware of the issues whist you were at the property, we would have done our best to rectify things during your stay. Property Owner
-
"The cottage was lovely , wonderful garden and very private."
Suggestion to the host is to have a small wardrobe in the main bedroom as the hooks on the wall ..although fine ... Did attract spiders ... Expected in the countryside I know ..making their webs on the hangers and clothes on them . Other than that it was lovely.
-
"The cottage was perfect and situated in an idyllic setting."
It was everything that we hoped that it would be. The enclosed garden was perfect for the dogs with lovely walks right from the front door. We were given a warm welcome and everyone that we met in the local area was friendly and helpful.
-
"Alice Cottage is in an idyllic location with lots of good walking from the doorstep."
The garden is large and well fenced for dogs. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There are lots of good pubs and eating places within easy reach.
-
"A lovely cottage in a wonderful location and this was our second visit and we shall be back"
-
"WOW WOW Wow what a little gem, Had everything you could ask for."
WE went for a week in december when it rained most of the time but the cottage was so homely we just chilled out. The Xmas Tree and chocolates were a nice touch. The dogs loved the garden, in all it was just what the doctor ordered. We will be back in the summer.
-
"It was well worth the money every thing we needed was there so well presented."
I would recommend anyone to stay there.
-
"A fantastic cottage with nice walks in beautiful countryside."
Very homely and comfortable. The garden is a lovely place to relax. Angie, the caretaker, was really helpful. I would recommend this cottage for a relaxing holiday.
-
"THE COTTAGE IS FANTASTIC."
It's so very peaceful and beautiful, the dog loved the garden space and scents of wildlife, this is the type of place that I would love to live in. I felt at home every day. Could I suggest a covered seating area in the garden that would make the property the best ever. The advert says about enjoying wildlife around the pond, could not see a pond at all, but that only a minor issue.
-
"Really nice cottage with large and beautiful garden."
Dog loved it. Quiet location suitable for people who like the countryside. Very clean. Only issue was the wi-fi sometimes cut out and router needed resetting.
-
"The cottage was lovely and clean and quaint Had everything you needed and was close to a lot of beaches and walks plus supermarkets."
Dog friendly and lovely enclosed garden .We all had a fantastic week
-
"Had a fab time at Alice cottage even though storm Dennis did it's best to spoil it."
The facilities were excellent and the log burner and central heating kept the cold out. We have booked again to stay at the end of May, and we hope that the weather will be kinder to us and allow us to appreciate the lovely garden. The only criticism that I have (if you can call it that, it's more of a personal preference really) is that the bed was far too soft for me, which had me up very early after quite restless nights. My wife slept like a baby!
-
"We returned to Alice cottage again last week as promised, and had another wonderful week despite the weather."
What more can I say that I haven't said before. Thank you
-
"Alice Cottage is a little gem, in fact probably the best self-catering accomodation in which we've stayed to date."
It is in a very rural setting, yet only 1.5 miles away from Minehead itself. There are lots of things to do in the surrounding area, including numerous beaches, walks, Dunster Castle and gardens, North Hill and Porlock. The cottage itself is very well-appointed and cosy. We particularly enjoyed the log fire on the cold, dark nights, and really appreciated the beautifully decorated Christmas tree and welcome gifts. The garden is spacious and very secure, which was ideal for our 3 dogs. Angie, the caretaker is also very helpful and friendly. Thank you so much for making our Christmas so special...we will be back!
-
"Alice is a really pretty, very cosy cottage in a picturesque setting."
It is beautifully decorated and immaculately dressed. The owners have done a wonderful job in dressing the cottage with thoughtful and inspiring artefacts and have provided for everything a visitor could reasonably expect in a holiday cottage. Two very minor negatives. The settees are not the most comfortable for long evenings and considering it is situated on a narrow single track lane there was more passing foot and vehicle traffic than one might expect. Not a big issue other than the fact that one of our dogs decided it was her job to guard the place and insisted on barking at any outside movement. So 9 out of 10 but would definitely be happy to visit again.
-
"There is heavy strong spring on the back door to the garden from kitchen, which made it difficult to get in and out, especially as there is a step down into the cottage after going through the door."
-
"We enjoyed very relaxing week in Alice Cottage."
It’s a beautiful setting amongst the hills. The garden was perfect for our dog and with a public footpath outside the garden gate it was ideal. The cottage is quite spacious and King size bed was very comfortable. Angie the caretaker was very pleasant and helpful. Our only criticism is of the ‘Welcome Pack’ which we felt was quite mean, consisting only of individual long-life milk sachets and biscuits. We have visited a good number of cottages and this was poorest we’ve experienced. It does make a difference to your initial perception.
-
"Great location, beautiful cottage in idilic surroundings."
Would highly recommend.
-
"Except for the wheater the first three days we have no complains at all."
The cottage was exactly as described. Clean, quite and very cosy. About 45 minutes walk into Minehead. Ideal for walking with the dog. A place to return to.
-
"Alice cottage is one of the nicest holiday cottages we have stayed."
It is in an idyllic position,in a hamlet, in a beautiful valley , with lovely walks on the doorstep. The garden is large and well fenced for our two lively setters. It's very central for good eating places. We found some lovely pubs in Porlock, Minehead and Dunster all 4 miles or less away. There is a footpath from the cottage to Minehead the centre being only a couple of miles away. The cottage was spacious clean and equipped with everything we needed. We will hopefully be going back next year.
-
"One has to have extremely long legs between the knees and thighs to fit the sofa's in the lounge."
They were not comfortable to us. The bath is a bad design having the taps in the middle of the bath as if you wanted to top up with more hot water (and the water is VERY hot) when sitting in the bath the water would pour over ones legs thus scalding them
-
"Alice Cottage is perfectly situated for exploring the area whilst being away from the hustle and bustle."
The location is idyllic and the cottage is very spacious. The local people were all very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed a relaxing week with our two dogs. The cottage had everything we needed and more. The garden was beautiful and well fenced for the dogs.
-
"We had a lovely week at Alice cottage, the cottage was well equipped, clean, tidy and welcoming ."
.. it is altogether a stunning cottage with thatched roof, stained glass windows and a beautiful garden all standing right next to a small ford, the stream of which flows past the bottom of the garden .. there are walks across the fields to Bossington (with a handy half way tea room serving delicious cream teas) and along the river in the other direction to Minehead ... we took our dog who thoroughly enjoyed the week, there were plenty of dog friendly tearooms and places to visit along with all the walks .. we hope to book again one day ..
-
"Cottage and garden were lovely."
Extra touches of hand made stained glass windows were rather special. Wifi is useful as I take my laptop to look up locations to visit, etc so I always look for that option in holiday accommodation. Having the garden properly fenced is greatly appreciated by myself as a dog owner, (though my dog was never left unsupervised outside due in part to the numbers of sheep in close proximity). Smashing having local footpaths (which I'd looked up for the hamlet before booking). I enjoyed the touches of humour in the file of crib notes that goes with Alice Cottage. Overall the cottage is a super property - and would make a lovely home! Only teeny weeny negative is that it really does make a difference to have a welcome tray of a few tea bags, milk, coffee (especially, if like me, you forgot to bring the milk with you that you purchased especially!). 5 Stars for the lovely cottage/garden.
-
"Everything was exceptional and we felt very well looked after."
The cottage had everything we needed and so much charm.
-
"We had a wonderful holiday at Alice Cottage, Bratton."
The only thing we can think or improve our stay would be an outside light or two as it is a little walk to the car , though a torch was provided for this..We loved the location of this cosy cottage. ***Owner Response*** We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Alice Cottage. We have now put in two light sensors and some twinkly solar lighting to help guide the way from the car park. We do appreciate all feedback and hope that you would visit again.
-
"Just a few little niggles - the handle was coming off the inside of the shower door."
We had to buy cloths to wipe the bath/shower round with as none were left. No outside tap meant the dogs could not be washed off after their walks, which seems to be provided at other cottages. The gardener turned up without our knowledge and then moaned that there was dog poo in the garden - we were clearing up every day but had yet to do it that day and would have done so had we known he was coming. There needs to be clearer instructions for the cooker - we put the oven on (or so we thought) and an hour later it was still cold and so was our food - no idea which icon to turn the knob to as it wasnt clear. Other than that it was a lovely cottage, a lovely garden and set in a great location.
-
"Alice Cottage lacked basic requirements i."
E. kitchen hand towel, oven gloves, outside washing line or rotary airer. It would greatly benefit from a deep clean especially the kitchen area even though I left it in a much cleaner condition than I found it. A welcome tray would put it on a par with other Helpful Holiday cottages.
-
"Beautiful cottage in a very good location close to Devon borders so we had best of both the worlds."
Our dogs loved the large garden! Our bed was very comfortable. Overall a great stay and we would gladly come again and again!! Couple of minor suggestions, which are not essential but could make a difference to some: 1) It would be nice to have a fence next to the shed in the orchard area so the dogs could still enjoy the orchard area. Our dogs escaped accidentally and we had to chase after them. They are greyhounds. 2) please don’t dilute the washing up liquid, it looks cheap and it’s not economical either. 3) consider having a swing from the big tree in the garden, kids would love it!
-
"Our third visit to Alice Cottage."
The tidiness of the garden is much improved and being dog escape-proof is very helpful. Excellent dog walking from the cottage. The only adverse comment would be that a tray with some cups, teapot, teabags etc laid out would be nice after a long journey. Most holiday cottages offer this, and more. Miles Garnett
