  • "Very comfortable."

Very warm, in fact, had to turn heating down. The kitchen, while small, has every conceivable gadget you could need. A great location in the very heart of Dunster. Only one niggle, parking in the vicinity can be fraught, and is clearly a problem for all residents, not ideal if you have a large car!

  • "Lovely cosy cottage near to the centre of Dunster."

There's lots to do in the area and good walks straight from the cottage. The owner left a few logs and sticks of kindling for a fire on one night. This is one of the few cottages we have booked with Helpful Holidays where the owner did not leave a welcome pack, not even a pint of milk which would have been nice given that Dunster Deli was closed through the duration of our stay and the nearest supermarkets were in Minehead. Nevertheless, this is a nice little cottage.

Great location in centre of Dunster - and what a gorgeous village, Castle and grounds. Great walks from the door and lots to do in immediate area. Lots of useful recommendations in the visitors book. We found the church bells charming albeit relentless! . Luckily the front bedroom has new very good double glazed windows so the sound was muffled at night! Back double is only single glazed but we didn't need to use that one. The communal garden is very close but was disappointingly very overgrown.

Thank you for your comments and positive feedback. Much appreciated, always makes the effort worth while. We are in conversations about regular garden maintenance. Property Owner

Stairs are definately not for the faint hearted being both very steep and handrail inadequate. While the cottage was used as a base, I'm sorry to say I won't be staying there again. Shared garden seemed more like a dumping ground, badly maintained and not user friendly. Luckily the people in Dunster made my stay there, but I won't be staying in Little Dragons again.

This is an old property, it is characteristically small with steep narrow staircase to bedrooms and the road outside gets busy at school time. The church bells chime every 15 mins 24/7. These are not faults, it something you have to accept about staying in old property in Dunster. Could do with a mirror in second bedroom though.

The cottage is well equipped with everything I needed and more, I didn't need half the kitchen stuff I took with me, based on previous cottages. The decor is beautiful, only minor inconvenience is the downstairs bathroom in the middle of the night. A comfy cosy cottage right in the middle of Dunster, plenty of walks with my dog, scenery is stunning, locals are friendly and we discovered a traditional pub at the end of West Street which does homemade food, absolutely delicious, visited 3 times during the week. I will definitely return to Little Dragons we had a brilliant time. Thank you Stuart.

We had a lovely weekend. The cottage was spotlessly clean, had everything we needed (and more) with lovely touches. We decided the beds were "magic" as we slept so well, once accustomed to the regular church chimes (suggest ear plugs if that might bother you), superbly comfortable, as was the living room furniture. The weather was changeable but we managed to get out for a couple of walks around the picturesque village and up to the folly for wonderful views in every direction, the hills one side and the coast, from the Bristol channel over to Wales in the other. Close to many beaches and easy distance from Minehead if you require more than the quaint shops in Dunster village can provide. (Lovely deli but could we find toothpaste anywhere? Maybe when lockdown fully eases there is a more general store but was a good excuse to pop into Minehead). Would recommend this charming accommodation.

The beds were extremely comfortable. Loved being able to have the stable door open in the evenings. We were lucky with the parking, managed to get a spot outside the cottage every day, if you get back to the cottage after the school run, you're usually lucky. My Dad and I had a lovely stay, the only difficulty was it was up the hill from the village which was a problem for my father as he has trouble walking, so worth keeping that in mind when looking for your holiday cottage. The rest however was just lovely and I would not hesitate to stay there again with a friend or recommend it to others.

The nearness to the centre of Dunster was a real bonus. We managed to park every day without too much difficulty but I think parking could be very difficult in high season. The cottage was well equipped with lovely hot water all the time. Some of the kitchen equipment (pans) were a bit jaded. A few more logs for the wood burner would have been nice. A cosy lounge with wood burner and two big double bedrooms, we enjoyed a very comfortable stay. Parking wasn’t a problem and the helpful pointers from the owners meant we could always park close to the cottage. The church bells do ring regularly and throughout the night but they didn’t bother us and we were sleeping in the back bedroom with the window open, this didn’t stop us from enjoying many a good nights sleep. We very much appreciated all of the guidance provided by the owners on local walks, things to do and places to eat. Dunster Castle is approx 5 mins walks from the cottage and Dunster beach about 25 mins. The little utility room was great to hang wetsuits after a trip to Wimbleball Lake for a spot of Paddle boarding, as was the washing machine after getting wet on a walk back from Dunster beach. The cottage was furnished to a high standard throughout, the bathroom is downstairs but that didn’t bother us, shower over bath nice and powerful and always lots of hot water. Both bedrooms were a great size, bedding and extra soft blankets were plentiful. Thanks for a great week.

Only thing was no logs provided for the fire. Despite it being summer, we had a lot of rainy walks and were quite chilli on returning to the cottage and wet shoes to dry so a fire would have been perfect. I know you said there would be a pack of logs so I assume it was a mistake. The location was amazing. So close to the pubs, tea shops and so many places to walk and the beach. The church clock chimes every 15 mins all night and sometimes for three minutes, which did wake me a few times, but we can live with that.

I was surprised that there wasn’t a food shop in Dunster. The whole area is very attractive and we had wonderful weather so we’re able to go out walking every day. Couldn’t get the overhead shower to work and never found the shared garden, not a problem for us but may be for others. Lots of helpful leaflets in the cottage and the Exmoor National Park ofiice/shop in the town is a mine of information. Somerset has a lot of free parking which is good. The information regarding when the bells chimed, provided by Sykes, was inaccurate. It’s not 3 times a day, more like 23 and they don’t just chime the hour, it’s every quarter and you usually get a tune at the end of the chimes which can last up to 2 minutes. I live in the centre of Shrewsbury and I am well used to bells. I did adjust and it wouldn’t stop me staying there again.

The cottage itself was cosy, very comfortable indeed, lovely beds, crisp, clean linen, plenty of towels, big sofas for relaxing on in the evening, wi fi, television, well equipped kitchen and so peaceful. Two, very minor, points worth mentioning: 1. I couldn't get any mobile signal inside the cottage - because the walls were so thick probably. It might bother others more - I just turned off my phone and forgot that the rest of the world existed for a week. 2. There's no general store - no Spar hidden behind a mediaeval façade so although the deli sells milk , bread and some toiletries (as well as an amazing selection of cheeses and other delicious things), we had to go to Minehead for the boring every day stuff. Just bear it in mind if, like us, you're not coming by car. All the arrangements through Sykes and with the owner were easy and clear. Can't wait to go back again.

About the location

DUNSTER

Minehead 3 miles.

Dunster is a popular tourist village near the North Somerset coast and is a largely unspoiled spot: the centre of the town retains many old buildings which hug the winding cobbled streets. The whole village is dominated by the castle on its hill but the focal point of the High Street is the picturesque Yarn Market, a covered area built in 1609 particularly to accommodate the wool traders and other cloth merchants. Inside Dunster castle there are fine plasterwork ceilings and the extensive terraced and landscaped gardens contain many rare shrubs and trees, and offer marvelous views out to sea, and towards the Quantocks. For those who enjoy exploring the countryside, Dunster is within the Exmoor National Park and there are plenty of footpaths leading onto the surrounding hills of Grabbist and walks into Dunster’s Deer Park at the foot of the castle. Dunster is well served with traditional inns, individual shops and interesting places to explore including the working 18th century watermill. West Somerset’s premier resort of Minehead is less than three miles away and has golden sandy beaches, seaside attractions for the visitor, and plenty of cafes, shops and bistros.
