  • "For a large party weekend or holiday this house in gorgeous countryside is exceptional."

With five delightful, spacious bedrooms and two lounges there is plenty of space. Everything is of a higher than normal quality from the cups to the top-spec televisions. The kitchen is so large ,well equipped and warmed by the lovely Aga it became the meeting hub for planning our cycling routes out into the surrounding hills and villages. Back from our ride on the Wessex Ridgeway there is masses of outdoor furniture even a heated covered table for drinks and exaggerated tales of cycling skill ! Sunday lunch at The Ibberton in the next village was superb. Communication with the owner was brilliant, they really wanted to make sure we had a perfect stay. In the 15 years we have been having our 'weekends away' Brook Cottage has been voted best of all for comfort, facilities and location, we will be going back

John, Thank you so much for your super review, I am so glad that you enjoyed the house and the area and want to come back. I really appreciate you taking the time to describe some of the things you liked about the house, it is very helpful for future guests since we are new to Sykes this year. We hope to welcome you back soon. Helena Property Owner

  • "Found the house and outside space very much as advertised."

Probably the best for provided holiday rental in my experience in terms of cooking supplies incl. oil, condiments, herbs, sauces and more. Plenty of crockery/cutlery for large party. Nice beds and bedding. Owner is very responsive to questions. Lovely big house with a lot of character. The wooden seating/ table on the front lawn is a bit rickety, but the main area to the side of the house is well set up. We loved our stay.

Ursula, thank you for your great review, much appreciated. Very good to hear that our full supply of herbs and spices etc works well for our guests - we reckon one doesn't want to buy all those things on holiday. We have replaced the rickety bench on the front lawn with a new Lutyens bench, you will be glad to hear. And of course there are the two benches in the outside dining area and 2 more on the terrace and also the rattan seating area, so we hope our guests have plenty of nice options for outside seating. But we did wince in agreement with you about our rickety bench and followed your advice and did something about it. Property Owner

About the location

STURMINSTER NEWTON

Blandford Forum 11 miles.

The small, attractive market town of Sturminster Newton is set on the banks of the River Stour, reached via a graceful, six-arch, 15th century bridge, carrying a warning of deportation to those who may damage it! The whole area acted as inspiration for the works of Thomas Hardy, who wrote Return of The Native whilst living in the town. The region is dotted with thatched cottages, rural walks, stunning country views, and fascinating towns, such as Sherborne, with its abbey and castle, whilst the beautiful Dorset Heritage Coast is also within easy reach, making this an ideal base all year round!
