  • "Unfortunately no hot water at all for the two days we were there ."

  • "Lovely property and location."

Lack of internet caused a significant problem and stress to both myself and my wife, as we needed it for work issues. Reading recent reviews this has been an issue for weeks so I am surprised it has not been sorted. Bath was very dirty on arrival.

We have to apologise for our own apartment internet not being available, however we must point out that an alternative log in was provided to another apartment. Despite changing the in apartment router the issue was caused externally & was only rectified by an engineer during our visit after you had departed- we successfully used the alternative until this was resolved. As we left the internet with new router was better than ever. Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately we were really disappointed with the maintenance of the apartment."

On arrival the fridge wasn’t cold, only half the toaster worked, the router still hadn’t been fixed and the towel rail in the ensuite didn’t heat up nor did the light work on the mirror. The outside balcony space could do with a paint as looking at what appears to be black mold isn’t ideal. When we reported these issues we were told the ‘owners’ would order a new router. That was it, no update and nothing was fixed during our stay. This and the tired furnishings gave us the impression that the apartment wasn’t really loved or cared about. This apartment has so much potential and doesn’t require much spent on it to make it great again. The views are amazing, no doubt about that, but the inside really lets it down especially if the weather isn’t great and you have to be inside! We are booked to return in September and hope the owners take onboard our constructive comments as with a little tlc this apartment could be perfect.

We have to apologise for the in apartment wi-fi not being available or repaired during your stay, an alternate log in was provided- the issue was external to the apartment & engineer response slower than we would like. Couple of points- the toaster does work both sides, but by design the RH side must be used before the LH will work, the bathroom light works, however the isolation switch had been turned off,(this also stops the expeller fan from working) The towel rail works as designed- that is the radiator gets hot (very) - but the rail upon which the towel hangs is designed not to get hot. The low wall surrounding the roof area where the balcony sits does indeed need painting and we did expected this to have been done as part of the whole building being repainted, we are working with the agent to resolve this. Taking your point regarding the furnishings- we have subsequently replaced curtains and rails, added a rug and a new side table in the lounge and downstairs bedroom. We apologise again for the internet in the apartment, the issue was external to us and it took more time than we would like to get it rectified- it’s working better than ever now, with a new router that in the event was not the issue We trust your next stay will be good and welcome further feedback Property Owner

The views from the balcony were spectacular although having to step in and out of the window was a little awkward. Only disappointment was that there was no internet connection to the router box would not even link up to the TV, although a list of passwords were given to use from other apartments none of them worked.

Number of steps to apartment from car park and awkward access to balcony ought to be better noted (although we three 'seniors' managed well enough!). And, yes, we would re-visit, hopefully in better weather.

  • "The sykes website is not updated to say that the entrance is now from the north walk as the other way is closed and has been since February."

There are 29 steps from the car park to the apartment and one of the bedrooms is upstairs without a proper handrail. Getting on to the balcony requires climbing through a large window. We couldn't work out the oven. The tv is at an awkward angle in the lounge and there are no tvs in the bedrooms, these are only minor comments however, they are the only faults I could find, it is excellent in terms of the location - 5 mins walk to Lynton, views over the bay, it feels quite luxurious. It is one of the best places we have ever stayed in and would stay there again. The housekeeper was very helpful.

Perfect location for valley of the rocks, lynton shops. Not long to walk down to lynmouth. The apartment was great. We'd definitely stay there again.

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and CS Lewis apartment- we fell in love with the view and Exmoor and try to sit out on the balcony listening to the river down in Lynmouth whenever we can and will be delighted if you choose to stay again Martin & Heather Property Owner

The step onto the balcony does require care but the effort is well worth it. Bathrooms are both spacious and there is plenty of room for two couples to share the space, without getting in each other's way! This apartment is very well located for access to the coast path, footpath to Lynmouth and the Cliff Railway. The hills are steep- both up to Lynton and down to Lynmouth- but that is part of the beauty.

However, we are both in our seventies and I am partially disabled with some mobility issues. Clambering out of a window to get access to the balcony was a bit of a challenge as was the climb up the hill to Lynton. Lynton and Lynmouth are interesting places with plenty to do (e.g. shops, restaurants, cinema, walking, etc). Several days we didn't need to use the car. The apartment is comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen. And great views. My constructive (/picky) comments would be that access to the balcony is tricky (i.e. climbing through a window), the property's exterior needs some maintenance, the lounge furniture/ tv layout could be improved, and finally, more hooks and shelves are needed, especially in the bathrooms.

Kitchen modern well kitted out. Main bedroom (ground floor) very comfortable bed, massive bathroom with a good shower and fast filling bath. Wonderful place to stay. Very clean! From the car park, there are a few steps up to the main doors, then about ten steps to the apartment but it is steep. Its mentioned at the time of booking. The only thing I would change would be the lounge, just make it a bit more comfortable and furniture positioning. I went in December so didn't use the balcony but can imagine in the summer you'd sit out there enjoying the spectacular views.

A well appointed, very comfortable apartment with wonderful views of the coast. The apartment was clean, spacious and well placed for exploring North Devon and Exmoor. • "The views from the apartment were nice."

But we were very disappointed that when we reported that the water in the en suite shower was not draining properly nothing has been done and we were simply told to use another bathroom. Also, when we reported that bed sheets and towels smelt, the replacement sheet in the second bedroom contained old marks which looked like dried blood. Again, no help as provided in replacing the stained sheet. As a result, our enjoyment of this property was ruined. Therefore, we will never be staying at this property again and will never make another booking through Sykes, as we feel that they were not helpful and have not adequately dealt with our concerns.

We are sorry that you were not happy with the service provided by our Housekeeping team they do all they can to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible. The team did attend and checked the shower traps were all clear, they also put down drain cleaning chemicals. However it was found if the shower was then run for several minutes did appear to start to not drain as quickly as it should have. As you can appreciate being at the busiest holiday time in a small village it can sometimes take a few days for a plumber to attend. In the mean time it was suggested you use the shower in the bath and the main shower in the other bathroom. At your request the team changed all the sheets and towels in the apartment. Our bedding and towels are all cleaned to a high standard and any marked items, (as we appreciate accidents do sometime happen), are disposed of and replaced with new not reused. Your experience of our apartment is very different from that experienced by the majority of our guests. We hope that for any future visits to this part of the country you find accommodation that better facilitates your needs. Property Owner

Loved the apartment as was visiting my brother with my elderly parents as my brother lived just two minutes away from this apartment. Just a few things I thought could be better. As my parents are elderly they get very cold, unfortunatly the heating could not be altered it was locked and didnt come on until 9.30pm. There wasnt hardly any toilet roll in either bathroom and no spare roll (a bit tight I thought). My brother and his wife came to our apartment for a drink, the wine glasses were just an odd set nothing matched. No toiletries except a tiny soap in the bathroom. I enjoyed the stay but for the money didnt feel it quite that special mark.

We sat outside on the balcony for breakfast on several occasions and also enjoyed a glass of wine out there in the evening. It is very relaxing to just sit and enjoy the view. The beds are extremely comfortable and to be able to lay in bed and enjoy the view was lovely. The kitchen was very well equipped and both bathrooms were superb. A very small niggle would be on the odd occasion we had the tv on we found it was too high on the wall to sit comfortably and watch (this didn't affect our overall enjoyment in any way!). The apartment is in a great location to explore the local area. We enjoyed a daily walk to Lynmouth, a visit to the Valley of Rocks, the Watersmeet walk, as well as a longer walk to Hunters Inn and back (highly recommend this walk, the scenery and views were some of the best we have seen). We ate out at several different venues and we would definitely recommend a visit to The Crown where the staff were brilliant, especially Mark who was very friendly and gave us valuable advice on the local area.

The settees/couches were a bit on the low back side and not particularly comfortable. Access to the balcony is a little bit awkward but can appreciate that this is worked around planning issues to maintain the property's exterior. Shower and bathroom facilities are outstanding. Note that the second bedroom has more stairs to access it and it does not have the same view. Facilities within the village were somewhat muted due to Covid.
