  • "The bungalow is near the owner's farm who tend 3 horses."

The property is very rural, a 20 minute walk to the village which supports 2 pubs and village store. You have to drive whereever you go, which you is not ideal. The White Horse Pub has restricted opening hours 12-2pm and 5-10pm, be sure to book a table even if you only want a drink as they refused to serve us when we called in at 1.30pm on 11th August 2024. The owners of the property were very nice and gave me a bottle of champagne for my birthday on 11th August. If you fancied a walk, the road is very narrow, no pavements and no lights if you wanted to walk back from the pub in the evening. We left the property after 2 nights, it really did not suit us.

We are so disappointed to receive your feedback. All of our small team at Wellfield work extremely hard to ensure the vast majority of guests enjoy a peaceful break at our rural retreat. Upon arrival at the property, some 1.5hrs ahead of check in, some of your first words to me were along the lines of ‘this is too rural for me/us’ and unfortunately the basis of your review is focused upon the situation of the cottage, which is easily identifiable on Google maps and the like, and shows that we are in a very quiet, peaceful location which the majority of our guests appreciate (which numerous other reviews attest). Country roads in the main do not have pavements and streetlights but we leave torches for the use of our guests who may choose to walk into the village (less than one mile distant). I am sorry about your experience at one of the village pubs. Obviously this is outside of our control but we will look into this further and cease recommending if appropriate. We are sorry that a possible lack of research into the location prior to booking has resulted in our being admonished for simply striving to provide a comfortable, clean holiday cottage with expansive rural views in a traditional Somerset village where our guests’ enjoyment is paramount. The cottage is well kept, clean and homely. We appreciated the little extra home comforts, and bits and pieces left for us to use including garden recliners, washing up liquid, cleaning products and tin foil. The owners live nextdoor, and they are very welcoming and pleasant. The welcome tray with milk and fruit shoots for the children was very appreciated. The information left in the cottage about the local area was handy, we collected leaflets on our travels and included these in the folder. We were so impressed that we booked again for next year. The rural location was just up our street, and the peace and tranquility was very needed. Wellsfield Cottage is a little hidden gem

  • "We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Wellfield Cottage."

The cottage is cosy, comfortable and well maintained. The host family are welcoming and helpful but not intrusive. We were left the best welcome pack we've ever had which included; tea, coffee, water, biscuits, milk, hot chocolate and fresh flowers. It is truly the best cottage we've stayed at to date. The beds were so comfortable it was a wrench to leave them. The kitchen was well equipped, there was even washing up liquid and bin bags, we were also provided with rechargeable night-light torches, which were extremely useful. In fact the cottage was so cosy that we didn't eat out, we shopped locally and had our meals in the cottage every evening except one. We can recommend Rich's Cider Farm for good quality, locally produced food and drink, but failing that there is a Tesco supermarket in Burnham-on-sea. We were kept company by their cheeky little ponies who were very entertaining. We would definitely stay there again if visiting the area and would highly recommend it to any one looking for a cosy rural cottage which comfortably caters for four. The cottage is conveniently located near to the M5 to make local travel easier up to Bristol & Bath or down to Taunton, and only a stone's throw from Cheddar, Wookey, Glastonbury and Wells. Thank you to Abbie and family, including cats and ponies.

We are absolutely over the moon to receive such lovely feedback. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a kind, positive review. We are so glad that you enjoyed yourselves and found the cottage to your liking. We would be delighted to welcome you back again (as would the ponies!) Property Owner

Fresh flowers, scones, jam&cream on arrival. Also tea&coffee sachets along with a fresh milk in the fridge. This was very thoughtful especially for anyone who might have travelled far without initial essentials. The cottage was very clean and there was a good supply of hand washing liquid that is desirable at any time but especially so during covid. The kitchen drawers had a good supply of cling film and tin foil, though we did not need to use this having brought our own supply. A very good bakery in a nearby village not open all week but worth a visit. Advice would be to make sure you carry some useful items for the kitchen food cupboard until until you can get to the local grocery shops. There are plenty of shops around and some very good farm shops, we visited the Ploughmans Farm Shop and found they had a very good selection of ready meals as well as fresh meat and vegetables. This was not a part of Somerset that we had visited before but we found it enjoyable and interesting. As a group of three adults [two adults not very fit] and one eight, year old child, I would think that the flat area around would maybe be good for cycling. Plenty of places to visit by car and we spent an enjoyable day in Glastonbury, as well as visiting Burnham-on Sea. .I would also like to thank the owners for letting us know soon after we arrived home that they had found a pair of spectacles that had somehow got left behind and they have very kindly offered to post them to us. All in all a good holiday break in the Somerset countryside.

About the location

MARK

Burnham-on-Sea 5 miles; Glastonbury 11 miles.

The pretty village of Mark is situated in the heart of the beautiful Somerset Levels, and is criss-crossed by long watery rhynes, which drain the wetlands for pasture, aiding the production of fine Somerset cheese. The village boasts an ancient church, built in honour of St Mark, as well as excellent walking and cycle paths, and a variety of rare species of birds, making it a haven for twitchers! Situated at the mouth of the River Parrett and Bridgewater Bay, the popular seaside resort of Burnham-on-Sea is just 4 miles away. With views across to distant Wales, and 7 miles of sandy beaches and dunes, the town also boasts Britain's shortest pier and some of the most distinctive lighthouses around, as well as the marble carvings of Sir Christopher Wren in its parish church. The Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Weston-super-Mare, ancient Glastonbury and the cathedral city of Wells are all within easy driving distance. A fantastic location for a varied holiday at any time of the year.

Please note: the property may not be suitable for 4 adults due to the bedroom and shower-room configuration, and would be most comfortable for 3 adults and one child / teen
