The beds were really comfortable and the kitchen had everything you needed. My only very minor complaint was the WiFi was a bit patchy but as the 4G was strong, we didn't even mention it to the host.

  • "The accommodation was as expected from the listing, apart from one fabric sofa that is overdue for replacement."

However the external appearance of the property was somewhat different. The image used must have been from when the property was first listed. It has now become somewhat overgrown and the outdoor table, chairs and the area it was in,was unusable. If we had rented the property in summer it would have been very disappointing not to have an outside area to sit/ eat in.

Lots of nice walks on the door step and furthers field. We stayed in November but despite very mixed weather we were warm and comfortable. Great place for a large family to gather around the table or relax together.enjoying the warmth of the wood burner. A very nice barn conversion which maintained the sense of the original whilst also offering practical and interesting accommodation . Would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the out door facilities.

  • "Staying at the barn was absolutely fantastic."

The owners, Jackie and Gary, were warm and welcoming. We are a large family with a wide range of ages and all of us enjoyed the house and farm. A particular highlight was the farm grounds which the children loved to explore. The house was clean and cosy as well as being well kitted out for all we needed. The surrounding area was also very beautiful and the house was well positioned for exploring the Quantocks, coast and historic village of Dunster. We would thoroughly recommend this as a wonderful place to stay.

  • "This is so hard but I hope I can middle through and it makes sense!"

! First impressions were amazing. The farm is quaint, and very picturesque. The Barn is stunning. The original features and quirky layout left us oohing and aahing, grinning with every new discovery. A quick explore of the farm and we found some stunning areas. The host Jackie was lovely and told us we could go anywhere, just to be careful around the farm machinery (especially the kids). She told us if we stepped over the little electric fence in the lower field we could walk under the railway bridge and there was a beautiful circular walk around the wooded wetland, pond and river. The upper field had lovely sheep and led up to stunning views of the area. Around the barn itself were a couple of little areas with a picnic bench and a little mown area and bench. The kids lost their shuttlecock in the very thick bushes within an hour of playing. Out the back door of the barn a collie dog was enclosed in an old outbuilding. She barked wherever we went past as she didn't like our dog being in her territory. If you take a dog you will need to keep it on a lead at all times due to the chickens, cats and sheep on site, plus there is no secure area so if they don't have perfect recall you'll lose them (and with some of the contents of the outbuildings it's definitely not reccomended to let them roam). The old buildings were trypical farm buildings, full of scrap and all sorts of things horded for when they will be useful. The chickens free ranged. I think they were moulting so not looking their best. Their house was enclosed with some fencing and I assume they were shut in at night. We never heard the rooster in the morning, only later in the day. Inside the barn itself the furniture had seen better days. I liked the mismatched, antique furniture but it was very rickety, some of the handles had broken and it didn't feel all that stable. The bed was comfortable. Being an old barn the ceilings and beams in places were very low and my partner cracked his head on the bathroom door one evening. The barn has small low windows. It is very dark inside and you need the lights on most of the time. Unfortunately some of the lights were broken, bulbs gone, etc. The extension lead in the ground floor double bedroom was very temperamental so the lamp would go off or flicker. On the other hand there is a glass roof between the lower bedroom and bathroom where light floods in. Unfortunately the lower bedroom has a quirky little window above the door with no curtain so light came in at the crack of dawn. It wasn't the cleanest place, but all the important areas were clean. A few cobwebs never hurt anyone and just added to the charm. The toilets flushes were very dodgy. I don't know if it's because it is on a septic tank (big notices warn not to flush anything but toilet paper, not that you should in any toilet really). The rolltop bath is lovely but it would have been more helpful to have another shower as 9 people trying to shower after a day at the beach took forever. The towels provided were tiny, just one each, and only a couple of hand towels and tea towels for the week meant we had to use the washing machine a lot. The kitchen is ok. Not really equipped to cater for a family of 9 but we managed. The ovens are small so you always have to use lots of trays and use bothe the fan and convertional over meaning things cook in different times. You may want to bring some knives as the ones there are blunt and small. A big issues for our family (17, 15, 14, 14, 11, 10 and 7) was the WiFi. It was just a TPLink boosted from the main house. It couldn't cope with all our devices, only just managed to let us use Google maps on our phones to plan trips out. I thought the kids might spontaneously combust but luckily we had the switch and they could play some games offline! The reason I say this is so hard is because, despite the problems we ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! I would book again in a heartbeat. The area is stunning. I already knew I loved it but I found even more to love this week. Being less than perfect meant I was able to relax a little more with the kids rather than stressing about keeping it spotless. It wouldn't take much for this place to be utterly outstanding, but I think that would push it out of our price range! So my advice is, book it, but go prepared. Take your own towels. Take some oven dishes and knives. Take tea towels and hand towels. Take washing machine tabs. Take some board games, colouring stuff etc for the kids. Download stuff to watch, listen to, play etc so you don't need the WiFi. Enjoy being disconnected for a while!

Its full of quirky character with plenty of space and well thought out communal areas. It was lovely to be greeted by the chickens at the door every morning (we didn't feed them Jaqueline) There was more than enough space for the 9 of us and the cottage was well equipped The only very, very small blemish on the stay was a few cobwebs in the larger rooms in the ceiling area which was pointed out to Jaqueline and will be dealt with. This place is on our list to return to and I would recommend to friends and family. 15 min walk to the start of the Quantock hills and Watchet really is only a 10min drive away. Looking forward to planning our return.

Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We were able to roam freely around the farm estate as were the chickens, who were regular visitors to the front door. This is a working farm so there is no enclosed garden space which we would have liked for the children to get out and play safely, especially as we originally planned to have more than two with us when booking but that's my only personal negative. Plenty of parking. The local village pub served great food and was equally friendly and welcoming. Would recommend especially for larger families or multiple family groups.

The accommodation is perfect for adults, children and dogs. The Barn is very 'lived in' so don't expect luxury but there is everything you could possibly want. Well kitted-out kitchen with range cooker, microwave, dishwasher. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc and fridge freezer. Own washing machine. Very clean with oodles of hot water and comfy beds...what's not to like? Small grass area with outside seating and functioning bbq. It was great for us with 2 active boys, a toddler and a dog. Very spacious downstairs with no knick-knacks, pristine sofas or lovely carpets to worry about so we felt right at home. It has been converted with thought and has great atmosphere. There are lovely walks around the farm which has sheep and chickens. Within easy reach of beaches and local attractions Would definitely stay again.

  • "It’s an old barn that has been converted so don’t expect the height of sophistication or luxury."

However you can expect a lovely relaxing airy quirky olde-world place that is comfortable well located and a wonderful holiday destination. The grounds are ideal for adults children and dogs alike, the walks from the door into the fields or down by the stream being lovely. The Quantocks were new to us and being literally on the doorstep are very worthwhile exploring. Similarly of course Exmoor is lovely too. A return journey on the steam train from local Stogumber to Minehead made my friend’s day and we sampled a couple of the local pubs which provided good basic pub grub - unfortunately the most local at Bicknoller was in the process of changing hands so was not available for food, but the White Horse at Stogumber proved better than our expectations, especially as we were in on the night of monthly meet of locals and their guitars! Overall a really enjoyable week. Highly recommended

The dishwasher top drawer was broken and we had to fiddle around with it for a while to get it back on it's runners. This happened daily. Short of a few items in the kitchen; scourers for pans, dishcloths, etc. The main picture used in the Sykes Advertising is VERY OLD!!! This gives a false impression of the look of the barn. It makes it look much newer than it actually is. There were 6 adults & 2 children in our party and we had plenty of space.

  • "Very pleasant short-break venue."

Owner's very helpful and welcoming, chickens at the door, lambs in the farmyard, delightful. Do remember, this really is a 'rural/rustic/remote/relaxing' environment, deep down in the countryside adjacent to a busy working farm (especially during the lambing season). So don't expect immaculately cleaned high level windows or cream hall-to-wall carpets...it's a converted barn with many old features, creaky wooden doors and rusty window frames, timber beams etc., accessed by narrow lanes surrounded by high hedges, driving (only) distance from local amenities, pubs, shops and historic attractions/towns (don't miss Dunster Castle). We were 5 ex-college-chums, all now over 65 years-of-age, for a country break mid-april 2018 and we just loved the place! We would not hesitate to re-visit/recommend.

  • "In a lovely location and the family who own the barn were so welcoming and really helpful."

The Barn itself is full of character, beautiful real fire place and has such lovely potential. However the building felt a little run and could do with some work. Cracked paint in bathrooms and a towel rail that’s hanging on by a thread. Also it didn’t feel like the cleanest. Cobwebs and dust every where. The towels provided smelt musty and damp and we had to wash them a few times to get them smelling fresh. The cushions on the sofas and bed linen also just didn’t feel very fresh or clean. Also it’s sold as saying it has WiFi and out of 6 of us none of us could receive WiFi in the barn. There is WiFi in the main house and a booster near by apparently. Not a huge deal but I don’t think it should say it provides it when it doesn’t. Not suitable for young children as lots of steep stairs also the sound from the lounge area travels all round the barn so not suitable for families who need to put young children to bed and want to stay up late. Lots of animals roaming around the farm which was lovely and the stream running by the side of it was really picturesque. In a great location Intetesting place with character and the family who own it were lovely but definitely needs a little TLC.
