Sustonica, the first global sustainability standard for holiday lets.
Our aim is to create lasting holiday memories and we intend to do so both responsibly and sustainably.
To deliver on this we've set out a number of environmental and social pledges which help to focus our efforts;
you can read more about them in our Impact Report.
This is why we've partnered with Sustonica, the first global certification for holiday lets,
to support our owners to be more sustainable.
The Sustonica certification focuses on four key areas: energy conservation, water conservation,
waste reduction and promoting inclusiveness. They are on a mission to become the most widely
recognised sustainability standard for holiday rentals and a catalyst to reduce emissions of holiday
lets and influence guests to reduce their own household consumption too.
Properties that display the Sustonica badge have successfully passed the criteria,
which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards,
and their owner has made a commitment to look after our planet as well as you.
Bed was super comfy! Made full use of the wood burning fire, made the room so cosy. Cottage had everything you'd need for a short stay. The tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were most welcome. Location was perfect. We came by train and it was a very short walk through the hugh street to the cottage . Loved Sherborne, so much history, great shops and places to eat and drink. Thanks for having us!
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Foxden.

"Cleanliness - fridge wasn’t very clean."
Never used cutlery, glasses or crockery, never looked that clean. Realised towards end of holiday there was only pillow protectors on and no pillow cases.
Slip mat needed in bath.
We are very sorry and surprised that you felt some crockery and cutlery were not clean as there is a dishwasher for guests to use. We asked our management company to check as soon as we saw your comments and they could not find anything amiss with the fridge or the crockery etc. We wish you had let us know that there were no pillow cases as this could have been rectified very easily. There is a mat in the bathroom which can be put into the bath if required.

"Many dangerous aspects in this property."
The curves on both stairs need handrails, as do the steps in the garden.
The bath with a hand shower needs a shower curtain, as noted by previous guests, also the wooden bathroom floor becomes slippery when wet.
We had to sweep away wet leaves which made the patio and path slippery.
There was not enough crockery to justify using the small dishwasher in the tiny kitchen. There was dirt and dust in a corner of the lounge.
A very disappointing experience, not up to the usual standard of a Sykes property.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. The stairs do have handrails but, as Foxden is a period cottage, the stairs curve so it is not possible to have a continuous rail. The cottage was checked prior to our offering it to guests and was found to comply with all current safety legislation. However, we do appreciate that the stairs and steps might be difficult for elderly people or those with limited mobility so thank you for your comments. The bathroom has a bath with a hand-held shower. The features that make it an attractive period cottage also mean that it is not possible to provide a modern shower in a bespoke shower cubicle! The period-style bath itself would not be safe to use as a stand-up shower as it has curved sides. There is a cork mat to stand on in case guests have made the floor wet. We are surprised that you found the crockery supplied inadequate; there is a six place setting dinner set provided. Unfortunately, some mugs had been broken but these have now been replaced. Your comments regarding dirt and dust have been passed on to our cleaners.

"Foxden is a lovely period property in a great town centre location with the bonus of parking."
It has been sympathetically restored and furnished. However, it has the drawbacks of a period property and we found it rather compact and dark with very tricky stairs and access. We were unlucky to encounter a significant woodlouse problem during our stay. There is some traffic noise, but it didn't disturb us unduly.
Thank you for your feedback, we are so glad you enjoyed Foxden.
We are sorry for the woodlice disruption during your stay, we checked the property following your visit and could only locate 2 inside.
Our neighbours had recently completed some garden work and removed grass which could have disrupted them, but woodlice are harmless creatures and we can confirm this is not an issue going forward. Kind regards

"We enjoyed our stay at Foxden."
It’s very close to the town centre and the car parking space is very handy. The house is well equipped and had everything you need for a comfortable stay. The road outside is very busy and we found the constant noise too much at times. We prefer showers and found the hand held one in the bath difficult to use.

"Fine for 2 but might not be so good for 4 people."
You do need to be foot sure to relax here as there are lots of steps from the car down through the garden and in the cottage too. A shower rather than a shower head, or at least a shower curtain, would be good. Nicely situated for enjoying the town and surrounding area.

"We have already contacted Sykes (and the owner) about Foxden."
It was not possible to contact Sykes by phone so an email has been sent.
Upon arrival to the property, we found mushrooms (fungus) growing neat the cupboard door in the lounge. Would you stay in a place where fungus is growing on the floor in the lounge? The dust was extreme! This property looked like it had not had visitors for sometime and had certainly not been cleaned prior to occupancy!
Cobwebs throughout the place, uncomfortable furniture. A rug in the lounge would make it feel warmer.
A dressing table in the bedroom would also be useful. The kitchen is ilequipped. Three pans, and oven trays that all need a good clean. I cleaned the grease off the oven trays before I could start cookin
A holiday location spoiled by the accommodation. Certainly not worth the cost.
We were very disappointed and surprised to receive your comments. We tried to deal with your issues immediately when you contacted us, which was not until the fourth day of your holiday, and we offered to send a cleaner in straight away; our cleaning company had cleaners on standby. However, as you did not reply to our offer, we could not do anything to resolve the issues. The cottage has had visitors throughout August; in fact, the previous guests left on the same day that you arrived and the cottage was cleaned after their departure, so we cannot understand how it could have got into the state you describe in the few hours between their departure and your arrival.
Sykes were also surprised to see your comments as they did not receive a telephone call or email from you and knew nothing about your issues until your feedback was posted.

Full of character but with all the mod cons you need. Perfectly located with easy access to the center of Sherborne. Loved the garden and the kitchen and the bathroom. Very clean and tidy.

"A lovely and interesting property."
Spotless and obvious care taken to provide a comfortable stay. There are, as described, a lot of steps both inside and outside the property, so with the wooden floor in the top bedroom and the staircases you need to be careful.
Owner was very responsive to our query and comments
