  • "This is a lovely house-very spacious and well equipped."

There are small improvements which could be made (e.g. towel rail in downstairs loo) but overall we loved it. The ‘laundry’ room space is wasted -we played table tennis on the table out there (with our own things) but this space could easily be improved into a games area for table tennis or table football. I hope we will be back again some time

  • "A lovely old cottage, great for getting away for a quiet stay as no television and limited Wi Fi quite secluded just surrounded by woods but Minehead not far away for eating out."

Plenty of walks nearby and places to visit. We did find the stairs quite challenging but this is what you expect in an old cottage

  • "Lovely cottage in a very peaceful location."

We had a very relaxing, tranquil time. The walks from the door were great. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. The cottage is cosy and warm, a home form home. The garden was a lovely place to sit and read.

  • "Overall this was a lovely venue; the house was warm, clean and generally very well equiped."

The fires were fantastic as was the generous supply of logs. Thank you. In addition, the garden and the surrounding area was beautiful. Only a couple of areas for potential improvement. The broadband worked most of the time, although perhaps using a supplier whose main business is petro-chemicals (Shell), might need reviewing? Also, there were no shelves in the fridge door, which really limited the storage. Moan over and, to be honest, we've booked again four months after our first trip, so the positives (One of which was my wife spying a rabbit feeding just outside the bedroom window, which sent her giddy with delight!) far out-weigh the negatives! Kind regards Andrew

  • "Despite it's proximity to a noisy stretch of the A39, the cottage feels incredibly isolated and deep in the forest!"

Everything works well, it is warm and comfortable.WiFi fine for basic stuff. Keen walkers have a wealth of routes from the doorstep, but these involve the initial steep climb through the forest. Not a place for strolling after dark. Lots of places accessible within a short drive, lovely place to stay.

I would of given it 5 stars, if it had a nice table and chairs to sit on outside as we had wonderful hot sunny weather, but we couldn't eat or drink outside as there was no where to sit.

Didn't miss tv or phone signal. Wifi was good. Loved the wildlife around the cottage. Only used the car once when we went to Lynton. Walked straight from the cottage everywhere else. Walked approx 70-80 miles in the week. Enjoyed steam train ride to Washford and Cleeve Abbey. Walked to Dunster Castle. Many more walks from the door. Walks in information folder helpful. We highly recommend this cottage.

Lots of room in the cottage, the kitchen/diner is definitely the heart of the cottage. Note for dog owners, the secure space for dogs was all paved, ours needed to be on leads in the grassy areas as they could've escaped.

Having no TV or mobile phone reception is a massive benefit as is the enormous wood burning stove with gratis logs. A superb location and ideal for exploring Exmoor and its environs. Certainly I'll book the next trip via Helpful Holidays as there is an excellent choice of properties.

  • "The house was a beautiful location and we loved it."

However on arrival there was a very strong smell of oil which made everything taste of oil and was very unpleasant for 2 days and probably not good for the health. We couldn't spend time relaxing downstairs and eating was not an option unless we wanted to taste anything other than oil. Ironically I had asked for the aroma sticks to be removed as we have an extremely sensitive sense of smell. Angie Brown was very helpful in getting out an engineer within the evening of the second day of our stay. The smell started to subside after that but it was a while before it disappeared although we could sometimes smell it when we returned after a day out. I appreciate that these things happen but I understand that this had been known about for 2 weeks and yet we still had to get an engineer out who spent at least an hour on it. For such a lovely place this didn't give us a good start. The surroundings were lovely and generally peaceful. We would come again if there was no repeat of the oil leak.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed Heyden Cottage and the location. The issue with the boiler had been addressed initially prior to your stay - unfortunately the engineer needed to be called back in and I am pleased the caretaker was able to assist so swiftly - apologies for any inconvenience. You'll be pleased to hear it is a permanent fix this time! We do hope you'll choose Heyden Cottage again in the future. Property Owner

If you're looking for a low tech holiday where there's no TV and limited internet then this is for you either for walking or just relaxing. There are woods on the doorstep and there is numerous walks to be had direct from the cottage no driving needed except for shopping. we walked into Minehead, Dunster etc no problem The orchard is ideal for the dogs to run around in and is fully enclosed and gated also the small courtyard is enclosed as well. The Log burner and supply of wood is a nice to have after long walk . We will certainly add this as one of our favourite holidays and will look to visit again.

  • "Wifi, although advertised as available, was non secured and would not connect anyway."

Not really a problem for us, but might be for others who may need it. There is a very noisy main road just below the property, the noise from which is quite invasive by day when outside or if windows are open. However it dissipates at night. Having said that, the woodland location and seclusion is perfect for those who enjoy walking and wildlife (we saw deer rutting, a fox, rabbits, birds of prey and squirrels from the house, and were serenaded by an owl (Little Owl?) most nights. There are numerous walks from the door, or further afield. The cottage itself is very warm and cosy, with plenty of wood for the fire/woodburer and piping hot water. We were only contacted twice by the caretaker, once to make sure we had arrived and were happy, and once just before we left to give us leaving details. Other than that we were left to our own devices. Just as we like. There were not reams of rules and regulations as is sometime the case at holiday cottages, so we instantly felt at home. Just one or two niggles : the upstairs loo takes an age to refill and the upstair shower head is "lazy" and wont stay upright. Perhaps a mirror over the basin would be better for those who wet shave. As a cottage in which to recharge the batteries it is perfect and had the desired effect.
