  • "The cottage is a good size in a very good position in the village."

It is very close to the harbour and all the shops, pubs and cafes. The car park is right next door and the permit was arranged by Ruby with no problems. We had a lovely stay and found it very comfortable, especially the big bed. The outside area is small and could be made much more welcoming with a few tweeks, new furniture, plants and maybe some soft lights. We had an issue with the kitchen tap being very loose but Ruby did all she could to get it sorted. Would definately recommend number 9 to others. Communication with Ruby was very good and found her very helpful, thank you x

Blackout blinds to keep out light and heat would have meant I could sleep during our stay in the hot weather. Some fans for the rooms would also have helped. Windows don't open very much which added to the heat. We paid for a weeks parking as no communication as to whether our free parking has been organised. As I say small things took the edge off an otherwise nice cottage.

The location was quiet but very convenient for the town centre. The only problem I had was I could not open the front door from inside, I had to get my husband to do it every time. Guess he had the knack. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom smelt a bit due to lack of ventilation but it was not overpowering. Overall we had a great stay and would stay here again.

Lovely little yard, always careful to wash down the tiles after my doggie. Problems with no hot water, resolved with help from owners. Needs info in the pack re boiler/hot water and switches. Couldn’t work the microwave. Nothing in the info pack. Had the knowledge to google the info. Info should have been in the pack. Easy access re gate and door key. Shame the central court yard wasn’t better maintained could have been a lovely feature. Should make it clear to park in market car park for the cottage though the permit covers the 3 local car parks. Overall lovely stay though with friendly locals and helpful owner. Lovely little cottage. These things had little effect on our stay, they are the sort of things I would like to know if I was the owner

I’m sorry you didn’t feel our cottage was big enough for you and your family. We have recently refreshed the property, making changes to all rooms, with photographs on the website to reflect this. The fridge is an under-counter fridge with freezer compartment as shown in photographs. Sorry this property was not suitable for you, but I would suggest looking more carefully at photos in the future to avoid disappointments during your stay. Parts of the property felt a little unloved. A clothes airer and basic cleaning items would have been appreciated. The beds were very comfortable. We found Watchet to be a friendly town with plenty to keep us entertained for the week. Super location for fossiling.

  • "This house is basic, grubby and overpriced."

There is a water stain on the ceiling with paper hanging down, black mould round some of the door and window frames, kitchen chair seats are dirty, mugs are tea stained, cushion covers are soiled and marked, the pillows on the beds are stained brown and need throwing away, the duvet is stained with blood, the bin area has tea drips on the cupboard and bin, the walls are marked, the carpets are dirty and the heated towel rail hasn’t seen a cloth for a long time. A used plaster needs removing from the bedroom radiator. Even the information file had grubby finger marks on it! We couldn’t clean anything even if we wanted to as no materials were provided - at least a bottle of loo cleaner is surely a basic requirement! There are no shelves in the bathroom for toothbrushes, shaving gear etc and there isn’t an airer or line (retractable for the courtyard £5 from Wilko, Dunelm etc). Towels got wet, we got wet in the rain, nowhere to hang anything. Owing to the small courtyard with its very high walls little daylight came into the lounge area so we had the lights on most of the time. A couple of lamps would have helped and given the place a bit of atmosphere, and a rug in front of the sofas would also have made it a little more ‘cosy’. Oh, and ten minutes spent weeding the small courtyard would have made it a slightly more inviting. Some of these things could have been reported in the visitors book, but there wasn’t one eg both toilet seats are wobbly and need tightening up. I’m afraid we shall not be returning.

With a few very simple tweaks it could have been so much better. We were surprised that there was no washing machine, I know the description of the property didn’t say there was one but we assumed there would be. Also there is no wardrobe in the bedroom. There are no baking trays in the kitchen which was quite an inconvenience. The cleanliness of house could have been better.

Dear Guest, I’m sorry that you felt disappointed with your stay. It is very important to always read the descriptions before you book a property, as you said we do not state there is a washing machine or a wardrobe and this can also be seen in the photos. There is not enough room for these items and lots of people do not have a problem with this for a weeks stay so we have decided not to change it. I will have a look at the baking trays as there should be some in the property. Also if you have any photos of the cleanliness that you can pass on to Sykes that would be greatly appreciated as we use a Sykes approved cleaner who always cleans to a very high standard. So this would be really good to see any issues you found so we can address them immediately. Thank you for your feedback and hopefully you find a property better suited to your needs next time! The owner was very helpful and pleasant. Some of the previous reviews mentioned that the double bed was uncomfortable but this has now been replaced and was a very nice, good quality bed. We had a thoroughly good holiday. The cottage was ideal for us, despite some previous questionable reviews! We know that there are to be some updating of facilities being done soon. Apart from a thicker mattress needed on the large bed, everything was ok and didn't cause us any problems. There are a couple of little things needing sorting, such as a new washer on the shower hose/shower head connection, a few more plates and glasses would be helpful, as some of them were chipped or cracked. But we managed. There needs to be some proof of parking permit now that it is done electronically through the council. When we arrived, we weren't sure if a permit had been allowed, but thanks to Hazel, we were soon given texted proof of parking and were able to claim back the amount we had paid. We enjoyed it so much, we hope to visit again next year.

  • "We arrived at the property and first impressions were good."

Upon closer inspection we realised there were no wardrobe or anywhere to hang clothes. This is not ideal for a family of 4 staying for 1 week. The plug hole in the bath is blocked so water struggled to go down. We even bought some liquid to put down the plug hole. It's that dirty even the liquid couldnt clear the blockage. This was the same in the kitchen sink. The reception for the TV in the lounge was rubbish. We ended up having to switch the TV off because of the reception. The court yard at the back is disgusting. There are weeds and the chairs are full of moss. We didn't sit out once. The carpet on the stair case is filthy dirty. The double bed is so uncomfortable. The mattress is flat. This needs replacing. We have only been here 3 days and it's really not going well. We paid a lot of money and even the basics are not adequate.

The mattress was in poor condition and had sunk in a number of places so you could feel the metal slats. This should have been a relaxing holiday but it made it impossible to have a good nights sleep. There was also a huge lack of storage - just a few hangers on the wall and some cumbersome drawers - which meant living out of a suitcase. Storm CIARA crashed in. Can't do anything about this. However the fact that the TV had no reception for 4.5 days did not help. Paul, the housekeeper arranged for an engineer, but he did not turn up. When he eventually got someone to attend, we had main TV channels only. Paul gave us 2 bottles of decent wine as an apology. A nice touch as he doesn't own the place. A loft aerial is not good enough, obviously. The premises are small, but ideally situated in central Watchett. Pubs and restaurants within an easy stroll.
