  • "We had a lovely stay at Pen Yr Maes."

Tucked away in a beautiful part of Wales, it was peaceful and relaxing. The property was ideal for us with a 3 year old and a baby. Our 3 year old loved running around the house and with it being on one level we knew he was safe. The property is spacious and comfortable and really felt like a home from home. The hot tub was an added benefit too! A short walk to the local pub for Sunday lunch, which was inviting and friendly, was very much enjoyed. Overall a wonderful little break before we continued our holiday in South Wales.

Arrived to gorgeous flowers and a home made cake which was a real treat. We didnt have the best weather but still managed to get out and do lots of walking, the area is beautiful. The house was perfect, very cosy with the woodburner. Lovely garden, totally enclosed for the dogs and the hot tub was amazing. We ate at the pub a couple times - great food and very friendly. We loved it here and wouldn't have changed a thing, can't wait to return. Thanks again Delyth for being such a welcoming host.

We found the bungalow immaculate with everything you could possibly need. The gardens surrounding the property are well kept with stunning views from every direction. We found it so peaceful with only the distance sounds of the sheep. Our dog loved it too as it was completely enclosed with so much for her to explore. The hot tub is huge which we enjoyed each evening admiring the views. The Seven Stars Pub is literally at the bottom of the drive and as it is also dog friendly, we ate there several times and thought the food was very good. We visited Llewellyn’s Cave, Elan Valley and Builth Wells which is the nearest town. I would say remember to take your basics such as bread and milk etc as there are no shops in a short walking distance. On arrival there was a freshly made cake and a beautiful bunch of flowers to greet us which we thought was such a lovely added touch. We didn’t meet the owners (apparently our dog did) however they are at hand if needed just very discreet. We enjoyed having breakfast each morning watching so many bird species on the feeder and in the garden. We were sad to leave and are definitely hoping to return.

I'm sure everyone says we will come again and hopefully we can to, great enclosed area for our Ryley, enjoyed the pub, the walk to Llwellyns cave, the castle remains almost in the back garden and of course the bungalow and somehow we always have pleasant weather. Happy farming. Thank you.

The bungalow was warm, clean and welcoming. The owners were friendly, approachable and on hand if needed. It was very spacious, giving us lots of space to spread out (important with teenagers!) and the enclosed garden was perfect for the dog. Hot tub was very warm and a nice bonus. The surrounding countryside was incredibly peaceful and we enjoyed some lovely local walks around the village. We loved our stay here and would love to return.

As always the bungalow was immaculately clean and every item you would need was thought of. It's like home from home. Our dog enjoyed staying too, there are walks from the garden which is good for dogs that are reactive to cars. Just be mindful of the sheep that graze there, so dogs must be on a lead. The garden is full of birds, many that we don't see at home. It would of been nice to have sat ours if The weather had been better. The hot tub was a bonus and seen to everyday, we never saw anyone come, they are that discrete. Thank you for a lovely break

I do have to look hard to find any criticism, and the only thing I can think of which could be improved is the size of the towels provided for the hot tub! Just to note, if you are staying with large dogs, the wire fence between the garden and the surrounding sheep is only approx 1meter tall. Didn’t impact us at all as our dogs are good boys and would never attempt to get out, however, it could easily be cleared if your dog has that nature! We will certainly be back, and can’t wait to meet the overly friendly sheep again!! Thank you to the hosts for your fabulous facilities.

Kitchen well set out with comfortable dining area. Living room spacious but sofa only suitable for 4 people, sofas not comfortable as you sink into them so I was unable to use as it affected my back and I couldn't get up. Kitchen needed oven baking tray and better knives as the knives weren't sharp. Bathroom shower tiles were mouldy and needed deep clean, as did windows around the property, probably due to condensation but hadn't been cleaned for a while especially the kitchen. Waste bin in kitchen was dirty inside although bin bag covers the dirt. A 10am checkout didn't justify the deep clean issues/ covid as didn't the 5pm checkin. 7 hours of cleaning didn't seem to represent the cleanliness of areas, especially as guests we had to strip bedding, etc. We would return as it is a beautiful place, lovely cake from the owner.

There is a private garden (with garden furniture) which is a wonderful sun trap, perfect for relaxing in with a cup of tea or glass of wine and if this isn't enough, there is the most amazing hot tub in which we spent many a happy hour. The cottage is also well situated as a base from which to explore Wales. We were made to feel welcome on our arrival with the added bonus of flowers and a lovely cake, there was comprehensive information about the local area (shops, eating places etc) provided and the friendly owners were available for any queries that we had. Shame the pub (literally a few hundred yards away) is currently unoccupied as nowhere to eat/drink in walking distance. However there is a large fridge/freezer in the utility room as well as a fridge in the kitchen so plenty of room for a delivered shop to buy in your own treats. The garden is totally secure and there is a crate for your dog bed in the utility room - ideal for 2 small/1medium sized dogs. Flexi-leads are handy here as lots of sheep around when out walking. • "We have stayed at lots of self catering holiday cottages and this one beats them all, it was very comfy and had everything that you could possible need for everyone including the dog."

Having a gate from the garden onto a public footpath over the castle ruins was fabulous, it meant we didn't need to walk near traffic which our dog is reactive to. Will be visiting again in the future.

It was so peaceful and relaxing you do not here a sound night or day and the hot tub was excellent especially after a day walking up snowdon

  • "We enjoyed or stay ,it was relaxing, peaceful and all together a great break ."

The hot tub was lovely , the only thing I would comment on is the fact you had to walk up some steps to get to it as it is away from the bungalow at the top of the garden ,that's ok in daylight but at night and after it rained it was a bit tricky as the steps got a bit slippery , other than that the bungalow is beautiful and comfortable .
