  • "If you want complete peace and quiet then this is the place to stay."

Beautiful location and the cottage was very cosy. The views were lovely and our dog loved the enclosed garden to roam around and the mountain behind the cottage. The food in The Golden Lion pub was excellent and plentiful so would highly recommend as well as a lovely atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff. The owner John welcomed us with the wood burner going, a fresh pot of tea and also left some welsh cakes and a bottle of wine. Very knowledgeable man and checked in on us during our stay and provided more logs for the fire. The weather wasn’t brilliant but stayed dry, I think visiting in the Spring or Summer would be even better. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • "A beautiful, character filled cottage, in a stunning and peaceful location."

We loved the real fires and cosy atmosphere here. Friendly donkeys at the end of the garden were a bonus! John the owner was welcoming and warm. We enjoyed visiting Newport, which was a short walk away and has a variety of shops, Monday market and plenty of places to eat. A wonderful stay and we hope to return.

  • "Delightful cottage with superb views over the estuary."

, and so peaceful. The cottage was very comfortable and the supply of logs much appreciated. It was nice to have easy to use, straight forward appliances - do the job and you don’t have to stress over how to use the multifunctional oven or variety of hobs! Good food, including breakfasts, at Blas in Newport. Monty (the dog) enjoyed his week as guardian of the gateway to Carningli and making friends with John.

  • "We had a lovely Easter weekend staying at Penfeidr."

It's a beautiful location in the middle almost of the Carningli mountain with the view of that on one side & a stunning view of the sea/Newport bay from the garden. We had the fire going & was lovely & cozy, we will definitely go & stay again

  • "This place is amazing, we absolutely loved it."

Feels very rural but the village is only a 15 minute walk. Very cute cottage, half way up the mountain which the boys went up & back in about 2 hours. There’s everything you need in the cottage. The village has pubs to eat in. The owner John is great, very helpful and a phone call away. Came back every night to logs on the doorstep for the log burner (no extra charge). A very comfy cottage, even our teenagers loved it. Just wish we had stayed longer. Will hopefully visit again.

  • "Great location, as it is right on the side of the mountain but within easy walking distance of Newport town with its shops and pubs."

It was cosy and warm with a wood burning stove and John kept us well supplied with wood. The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed, and everything was very comfortable. I enjoyed the thoughtful reading lights everywhere and my daughters enjoyed the wi-fi and smart tv.

  • "Had a great stay here."

The positives far outweigh the negatives. The cottage is well equipped and cosy.Loved all the antiques. The only downside being, after a long day out would of been nice to have a decent shower or bath. This property provides neither.Shower goes from boiling hot to cold. And the bath I doubt me or the Mrs would fit in it.Haha.But it did the job and it got us wet and clean, eventually. Bathroom definitely needs updating.Or just a decent shower or a decent bath. The bed was rock hard as we're the pillows.I didn't mind so much as you get used to it.But we did swap the pillows from the other bed as they were a little softer. On the whole we had, like i said, a great holiday and we were very pleased with the cottage and the host.Thank you for the gifts. And checking in on us to see if we had arrived safely. Kind Regards Phil & Rachel.

  • "Really beautiful location, with amazing views of the bay and direct access to the mountain."

The cottage is quirky and comfortable, the stairs could be a bit tricky for some! Well equipped, the lane up is steep and narrow, I would definitely recommend it for a tranquil stay.

Thankyou Carolyn for taking the time to leave us feedback. We are really happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Penfeidr Newydd; it's lovely to hear. Part of the cottage's popularity & charm is that it is on a hillside directly beneath Carn Ingli, but the track is less steep than many of the council roads in the surrounding area & we have had no problems with heating fuel deliveries made by an oil tanker nor with many guests over that last twenty five years. Hope to welcome you back to Penfeidr Newydd soon. Every Best, John Property Owner

  • "Great week, fantastic cottage - brilliant location."

Couldn't be better. The only one thing I would suggest is some darker blinds in the main bedroom, I was awake with the sun - but when in Wales with those views, I almost didn't mind! Very sad to leave, and was just building a rapport with the beautiful horses!!! Throughly good week.

Thank you we really do appreciate you taking the time to leave us feedback, we are thrilled to hear you really enjoyed your stay at Penfeidr Newydd. Hope to welcome you back again soon. Take care, John. Property Owner

The property

Idyllically set high up above Newport, directly beneath the mythical Carningli is Penfeidr Newydd, a delightfully rustic, two-bedroom holiday home.

Perfect for a family, friends or couples and their canine companions, this traditional mountain cottage boats many original features and woodwork, plenty of character and stunning sea views.

Inside, find all you need for a self-catering stay in a peaceful, picture-perfect setting, starting off in the well-appointed kitchen, where the chef of your group can rustle up some dinner; there are two dining spaces, one in the kitchen and one in the living/dining room for gathering your family around to feast.

Then relax in the living room with woodburner or likewise, make use of the snug with open fire, to unwind while you catch up on the day’s adventures.

When sleep calls, freshen up in the ground floor bathroom before heading upstairs, where the character continues and find two bedrooms, a double and a family room, perfect for resting your head before another adventurous day out.

Be sure to make the most of the lawned garden, where you can admire the breathtaking sea views with your morning cup of tea in-hand or an evening glass of wine at sunset.

When you’re not gazing upon the magical views from the garden, why not head down to the town of Newport on a short 10 minute walk to a delightful selection of pubs, restaurants and shops to keep you fuelled on your days out.

Then continue down to the coast and spend a day at Newport Sands or the harbour at Parog and take advantage of your surrounds by beginning your walk along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

Next stop west is Fishguard, home to the legend of Welsh heroine Jemima Nicholas, whose trusted pitchfork kept Napoleon's men at bay during the Last Invasion of Mainland Britain in 1797.

Heading east, the historic market town of Cardigan, resting on the River Teifi is home to a castle that hosted the first Welsh Eisteddfod in 1176 and a wealth of independent shopping outlets.

Nearby Cilgerran meanwhile boasts its own castle, perched above the gorge below and is home to the Welsh Wildlife Centre, which is great day out for the nature lovers of the group.

Heading back to Newport, a visit to the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in Eglwyswrw allows you to get up close to those majestic gentle giant and make sure to visit the picturesque 5500 year old Neolithic Burial Chamber at Pentre Ifan.

Penfeidr Newydd is wonderfully placed to step out of your front door onto Carningli Common, as well being able to access the north Pembrokeshire coast within minutes.
