"Spent a wonderful two weeks in a peaceful setting, the folly is really cosy and although compact it was fully functional."
The grounds are there for you to wander around at your leisure and Barny the little dog will give you a warm welcome. The hosts were the best we have ever met and we have done very many holidays of this kind. Lots of interesting places to visit and most no more than 45 minutes away. We look forward to another visit in the not to distant future.

"Had an absolutely lovely stay at the Folly, and can't recommend it enough."
I was staying for work but would consider coming back for a holiday. The garden is beautiful and I spent an evening wandering around taking photos of all the things in the garden. As I stayed for work, I cooked most evenings and found that the hob and microwave oven was all I needed to make some tasty meals. The bedroom was lovely and the right size and I probably had one of the best nights sleep in the bed I've had in a long time! The owners were also very accommodating when I needed help and their dog Barney is lovely!

"We had a lovely stay at The Folly."
It was a last minute decision to book. The grounds are beautiful and you kindly have free run of them. The car parking is off road. You need to close the large wooden gate each time as the owners have a dog (who will come and visit you. Very sweet). You then walk the length of the garden to the Folly at the end. It is small but every bit of space is utilised. The spiral staircase could be an issue for some but you know this when you book. Plenty of hanging space in bedroom but getting suitcases upstairs is a challenge! The nearest neighbour is not the owner's house but another. Not much is open in the village of Woebley which is 30 mins walk on roads or 45 mins by fields. Internet unfortunately was non existent so Smart TV was pointless. May have been a blip. TV tiny. There are DVDs and a built in player. Good selection of books and games. Lovely welcome basket of home made bread and jam and fresh eggs plus more. We received a warm welcome from Jim and were offered early check-in. Very handy as we were already in the vicinity. The bed has a lightweight duvet. Towels were very stained. There is a bbq in the summer house which is also yours to use and provision of an area with sun loungers. 2 induction cooking rings were efficient and combi/microwave. Couldn't be bothered to read the lengthy instruction booklet for that! Fridge with small freezer compartment. We like to cook when away and as pubs were rarely open glad we had that option. We did have a drink at the Salutation and in Dilwyn village but no food on offer. You can book to eat out locally in the evening if places are open. Plenty of National Trust and gardens in the area. Would we stay again? Possibly. It was a novelty but we really like more space on holiday. Thank you for a lovely break.

"Lovely quirky holiday home with all the facilities you need and set in a relaxing environment."
. Well equipped and dog friendly providing a large garden space to roam around. The owners provided a handy and delicious welcome pack with delicious homemade bread and jam amongst other essentials. The position was well placed to visit beautiful black and white villages, interesting gardens and landscapes. We would love to return.

"We had a wonderful stay - there was a warm welcome from the owners with a basket of homemade goodies, the location is lovely (I don’t think I’ve ever heard so many birds singing in the mornings) and the property was cosy and clean."

"The Folly is a very special place."
Small yet comfortable with everything you need, including a beautiful garden to use. It’s very peaceful. The owners are exceptionally thoughtful and generous. Lots to do in the area, gardens and National Trust properties, as well as a village close by with pubs and good restaurants. It’s great place to stay. The inner spiral staircase is as shown on the photographs. Tight but caused us no bother - especially as the shower room is upstairs. We plan to return. It’s too beguiling a place not to.

"We had a lovely stay at The Folly."
We enjoyed the peace, quiet and beautiful gardens. We received a warm welcome and some visits from Barney the dog! The welcome basket of goodness was excellent and the bread and jam was delicious. Thanks too, to Barney for the gift of dog biscuits for our Missy xx The Indian takeaway and Sunday lunch at the Sal are recommended. All very lovely! May just need to be aware the stairs could be a challenge for some. However, this is pointed out on the listing. Many thanks

"We had a really nice 3 day break."
Everything was provided and the bed, super comfy. Very peaceful and relaxing. Lovely walks on your doorstep. Thank you for the lovely hamper.
-
"It rained throughout our stay and we were only able to sit outside for a couple of hours during our 4 day stay."
The garden was lovely and we were unable to see and use the benefits of it. The stairs were really difficult. The owners were really friendly - as was their dog Barney - and helpful and recommended local eating places that were all first rate. Weobley is a lovely village,

"Beautiful cosy Folly, with magnificent garden space around."
The owners were friendly generous ( GF food and plant milk supplied despite me only saying 24 hours before my stay ) and very kind towards my needy dogs.

The hosts Annie and Peter were very friendly and helpful.

"Heaven pure heaven!"
!! Our now special place. Can’t praise The Folly enough. As for the welcome we’ve received for Annie and Jim they really are such a wonderful couple.
-
"Lovely place."
Spotlessly clean, attractively furnished and fitted and set in a lovely garden. It looks like a tiny Italian villa with its own private terrace. We appreciated the generous welcome pack and warm welcome.Excellent communication with owners who were available but had great respect for guests privacy. The hot weather made us think we were in Italy.

"We absolutely loved The Folly!"
Everything was to hand especially in such a quirky place. The gardens were an added bonus which we really enjoyed. Jim and Annie were on hand if we needed anything and we especially loved the welcome basket. We will definitely be back. If you are looking for peaceful getaway break then try The Folly it’s so nice.

"Staying at ‘The Folly’, was a delight."
Very quirky, but very high quality. The bed was very comfortable. The garden was amazing, and it was great to be able to let our cocker, ‘Dylan’ ,wander around it safely at his leisure, as well as for ourselves. Annie and Jim were great hosts, and the welcome basket was very much appreciated. The bread , jam and beer went down very well (still enjoying the extra loaf Annie made now) and Dylan enjoyed his dog biscuits from ‘Barney’. Would not hesitate to recommend this as a great peaceful getaway for a couple and a four legged friend!. Mike and Jo.

"Truly a hidden gem!"
Such a gorgeous location and the property was immaculate and beautifully decorated throughout. The owners, Jim and Annie were just fantastic, so obliging and very generous in allowing us to wander around their gorgeous garden. The welcome basket was a real treat full of all sorts of lovely goodies, especially the home made bread and jam. The sunsets are amazing from the garden. We walked to Weobley, a beautiful village not too far. Highly recommend Jules Restaurant and also The Saltuation pub, both allow dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Folly and will definitely book again as it was such a special place.

"We so enjoyed our stay at The Folly"
-
"We enjoyed our time at the Folly and would love to come back again."
It shows that good things come in little packages, as, although everything was very compact, it was very comfortable and all the space was used brilliantly. As for the welcome basket, all those lovely local and hand made tasties!! Delicious! Thank you so much, it was a lovely place to stay.
-
"What a lovely place, had such a relaxing time here at the Folly."
The welcome pack was so generous but mostly the warm welcome of Annie, Jim and Barney their little dog, it’s been brilliant. We will be back without a doubt. Love it!!
-
"Beautifully cosy."
Had everything we needed for a weekend peaceful getaway. Even though we had three storms (starting with Eunice..) we loved our long weekend at the Folly. Our hosts were super helpful and welcoming. Fabulous welcome hamper on arrival. The folly was plenty warm enough though the grim weather. Bed super comfy and lovely shower with good water pressure to warm up after local dog walks in the rain and wind... We would highly recommend this unique property and look forward to another visit when the weather is better - we definitely chose the worse weekend this year for a weekend break....
-
"We had such a lovely peaceful week in the folly surrounded by beautiful countryside and views."
Everything is modern and clean and the folly has been designed with much attention to detail. Jim and Annie are very welcoming hosts and kindly provided a wonderful welcome basket for the weary traveller complete with their home made bread. I strongly recommend lighting a fire in the pagoda outside ans drinking beer! Jim and Annie were perfect hosts, there if we needed anything but totally unintrusive. They also have Barney the dog!! We are missing the folly and would return for a break.
-
"Beautiful location, unique property and welcoming hosts."
-
"Jim and Annie were wonderful hosts, the welcome basket of home baked bread and home made jam with other local produce was exceptionally good."
The garden setting was perfect and we slept well in our cosy home for the week.
-
"Just returned from a lovely, peaceful few days at the Folly."
Annie & Jim were very welcoming hosts, providing a delightful hamper with homemade bread and jam, local beer & other treats. The Folly is set in beautiful gardens, perfect for my border collie Ziggy. Lots of lovely local walks. Thanks to Annie, Jim & Barney the dog.
-
"Sweet and cosy accommodation - beautiful gardens - generous and considerate hosts - would highly recommend."
-
"We had a wonderful stay at The Folly, the hosts were extremely welcoming and very helpful."
They recommended a lovely restaurant for dinner. The Folly was comfy and cosy, I would not hesitate to recommend!
-
"Comfy bed and couch."
Beautiful outdoor area. Very friendly hosts including Barney the dog. Kitchen well equipped. Excellent water pressure in the shower. Wonderful welcome basket. Lovely countryside . Easy to walk to village where pub/shop. Would advise anyone with any difficulty with stairs that the spiral staircase is a challenge.
-
"If you are looking for the perfect place to stay look no further."
The Folly can not be faulted. The property itself. It’s beautiful grounds. Jim and Annie, the hosts and not forgetting Barney the dog. This place is quirky and well equipped and spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the ‘welcome’ basket which contained local eggs and homemade bread and jam. We would certainly recommend here and would have no hesitation in booking The Folly again
-
"The Folly is so delightful and clever."
We had everything we needed and more for a really special short break. The gardens are very special and it was hard to leave to go out for the day! Our hosts were lovely and helpful and we felt very spoilt with our welcome basket of local goodies. The home made bread and jam were heavenly.
-
"This was an amazing stay."
The folly has everything you need and is lovely and cosy. The owners are very friendly (as is their little dog) and they’ve really considered personal touches, such as Portmeirion dishes (it was the inspiration for the building!). Would definitely recommend staying here and we’ll be returning - the area and local village and towns are lovely too.
-
"What can I say?"
! The Folly exceeds the expectation that the advertising picture already gives! It is quite exquisite. Everything you need, perfect in miniature, and in the most tranquil and relaxing surroundings. Annie and Jim's (not forgetting Barney of course!) welcome basket is full of delicious treats and basics which makes such a difference to settling in quickly. A wonderful base from which to explore beautiful Herefordshire and the Welsh Borders.
-
"Everything was spot on!"
Annie and Jim are lovely hosts, we feel that we arrived as guests and left as friends. Barney the dog made our Harley welcome in his garden too. We will definitely go again. Thank you!
-
"The folly is a great an amazing quirky place to stay."
Very comfortable, with all the comforts you could ask for. No road noise, just the bird song, a feeling of being isolated, but with civilisation not to far away. Annie and Jim the hosts are lovely, I get the feeling nothing is too much trouble, although we had everything we needed from arrival. I can't recommend this place highly enough, loads of character, great location and great hosts. I will be booking again for next year.

"The spiral staircase is not for everybody, although it is noted on your website, it does not indicate that it must be one of the tightest spirals that are legally considered safe."
many adults either sight impaired or overweight would not get upstairs safely. Ditto the bathroom which is so small that when you sit on the seat the lid closes on to your back, the sink is a tiny corner sink making it impossible for a man to shave if he doesn’t use an electric razor. The cooking facilities are adequate for breakfast- but nothing further - the combi oven is at floor level so unless you like getting on to your knees to use an oven it is less than ideal. The 2 eating places in Weobley were closed Monday and Tuesday evening, so with poor cooking facilities, it was more than disappointing. All of these points should be made clear on your website. The Folly is quirky and attractive. The couch was comfy, ditto the bed. Jim , the owner , gave us a friendly welcome and his wife, Annie sent us friendly texts. We expected it to be ‘compact’, but not to come with such important negatives. A pleasant setting does not make up for the negatives. We would not return and could not recommend. We are in our 60’s, slim and active. What would happen if visitors arrive who are neither slim nor agile, whatever their age? We have wasted our holiday money and feel that others. Should not be put in the same situation. The price was paid for nights for such drawbacks was inadequate and misleading.
We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay at The Folly and would not return, we are surprised to hear your comments as we have only received positive reviews from our past customers. When greeting guests we always ensure that our details are available and to get in touch if there is anything we can assist with, as well as providing a welcome pack in the property to make sure our guests stay is successful, which are surprised to receive this review as we had not been contacted with any of your concerns during your stay. When it comes to our more unique, compact properties like The Folly we make sure there are lots of photographs to show the size of the important aspects of the property, such as the low combi-oven and the bathroom, this is to ensure guests are fully aware of what to expect when they arrive at the property. Once again, we're sorry to hear that The Folly was not suitable for you. Property Owner

"The Folly is set in lovely peaceful surroundings, in it’s own private space."
The owners were very friendly, helpful and accommodating to make our stay wonderful.

"Fabulous setting at The Folly Beautiful Owners very large and lovely garden for us to use and admire Annie and Jim were the perfect hosts Loved the generous gifts of home cooked bread and basket of goodies The folly was beautifully and cleverly fitted out All our needs for the week The spiral stairs are not for the less agile But not a problem for us Would definitely stay there again."
An excellent holiday hideaway.

"We had a wonderful time at the Folly."
It looked gorgeous on the website and it was equally gorgeous in reality. It also exceeded our expectations. The setting was very private with considerable outdoor space and sitting areas. The views were expansive and the combination of this with the beautiful garden and vineyard led to us feeling we were in the Italian countryside. So peaceful and a lovely walk into Weobley, straight from the door. Expectations were also exceeded by our hosts - Annie, Jim and Barney the dog - so helpful, warm and friendly with a perfect balance of connection and giving us space. Nothing was too much trouble and it was clear that us being happy was very important to them. A big thank you. We would definitely stay again.
-
"The Folly is a fantastic place."
It is at the far end of the garden so you are far away enough from the owners home to not keep bumping into each other. The Folly really works. It is like being in Italy without having to travel there. Was able to pick herbs directly from the garden to add to meals. A really beautiful special place, would definitely return.

"The Folly is an amazing, quirky and romantic place to stay in a beautiful setting."
It certainly has the WOW factor. It is very bijou, with a high standard of furnishings and fittings. The design and planning has been well thought out to utilise every inch of space. The outside area is secluded and perfect for al fresco dining. We were lucky enough to have some hot weather so we had breakfast and dinner on the terrace and used the barbecue one evening. The shelter in the garden is perfect to catch the last rays of sun. Apparently the inspiration for the building came from a visit to Portmerion in North Wales. It was originally built as a writer's retreat for a well-known garden designer to write his books whilst overlooking the peaceful rill and garden. We received a very warm welcome from our hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The patio in front of the Folly is planted with edible plants that we were invited to pick and use. On arrival we received a welcome basket of delicious homemade spelt bread, homemade damson jam, milk, biscuits, butter, olive oil and local cheese. There are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding areas. Nearby Weobley is a charming village. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property and would definitely return. We have stayed in a lot of self catering properties all over the country and abroad, and this is one of our favourites. Thank you to Annie and Jim for making us so welcome.

The property
The Folly is a “small but perfectly formed” property that will allow you to relax in the quiet of the Herefordshire countryside or go exploring to see some of the unspoilt towns and sites of the Marches.
The Folly was built simply as a decorative feature to an ornate garden and is now approached by a short walk through a developing woodland, but the property has now been renovated with much thought being given to making the most of the available space, having been compared to a perfect doll's house!
The upgrade includes a mini kitchen, with a combi microwave and induction hob, a relaxing settee, also a TV, DVD player and WiFi.
When you walk in, it does not feel at small because of the large gothic shaped door and windows, and you will find a narrow spiral staircase to the bedroom where there is a comfortable bed and separate WC and shower, and though features and furniture are small, everything is interesting, unusual and finished to a very high standard.
Outside is a large patio, planted with all edible plants, a table, chairs, BBQ and a large summer house, originally built to compliment the Folly, which are all available for guests.
The Folly is within the grounds of Arrow Cottage yet is completely separate and private, being situated on a very quiet lane, the surroundings of fields, orchards and wooded hills makes this a beautiful quiet place to unwind.
If you enjoy walking, a 30 minute walk takes you into the picturesque village of Weobley, the “Jewel in the Crown” of the black and white villages where you can visit the pub the Salutation or enjoy a coffee or lunch at Green Bean or Jules.
More energetic walks include the Offa's Dyke footpath, the Wye Valley footpath and the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) are all close by, you’ll also be just 15 minutes from the River Wye which offers fishing and canoeing.
For shopping there are the historic towns of Ledbury and Ludlow, both of which boast architecturally interesting buildings, including Ludlow Castle, and also many independent shops.
In Hereford you will find the usual mainstream shops and also Hereford Cathedral which houses the Mappa Mundi.
About 20 minutes drive away is the world famous town of Hay on Wye which hosts the annual literary festival as well as the greatest number of bookshops you are ever likely to find in one town.
Also, within a short drive are many gardens including Stockton Bury which has just been shortlisted as one of the top NGS gardens in the country, and The National Trust properties of Berrington Court and Brockhampton, are a short drive away.
All in all the Folly is a relaxing and unusual property from which to explore the rural tranquillity of Herefordshire.

WEOBLEY
Hay-on-Wye 15 miles; Hereford 11 miles; Ludlow 20 miles.
The picturesque village of Weobley is a hidden gem and is quite simply the jewel in the crown of Herefordshire’s famous Black and White Village Trail, situated in the famous Welsh Marches. Voted in the top ten places to live in England and winner of the National Village of the Year, this delightful village boasts many timber framed houses, some dating back to the 1400s. With excellent facilities including shops, churches, coffee shops, traditional pubs and the renowned Jules restaurant as well as many scenic walks from the village, this is the perfect holiday destination. Standing close to the borders of Wales and surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside, including Offa’s Dyke and the Golden Valley, this is an excellent location for walking and biking trails. Within easy reach are Hay-on-Wye, medieval Ludlow, historic Hereford and Leominster.
