  • "We have stayed at this property twice before and decided to give it the benefit of doubt and try it again."

Unfortunately in the two and a half years since last staying there the property hasn't been touched at all. The settee's are so uncomfortable. Microwave was dirty hard cheese left in it, and the utensils were also dirty. Kitchen door didn't fit, there was a dehumidifier on when we got there which told us the property must still be damp and this was the problem we had previously, Kitchen hob was a nightmare to use. it kept turning itself off, It only has 2 small and 1 medium saucepans so very hard to cook a Sunday dinner, The microwave is on top of the tall fridge/freezer which is no good if you are short like me. I had to stand on a chair to use it properly. There was dog mess left out in the grass. The dirty caravan is still at the side of the property and it makes the bungalow look very shoddy and dated. There is no file available to tell guests how the bungalow works, i.e how to switch on the heating, a fools guide step by step on how to work the oven and hob as the instructions we found in the drawer were not very explanatory. The area in which the bungalow is situated is lovely and quiet but I could not go back to the bungalow as the owners seem to only want the money and not prepared to update the property. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property for staying in One positive is that the welcome back was a nice gesture.

Perfect base for exploring beautiful Pembrokeshire. The bungalow was well equipped and comfortable. Our two young children were very pleased to find the excellent playground just a couple of minutes down the road. There was plenty of space and we had lots of good home cooked meals in the thoughtfully equipped kitchen. The generous welcome basket was a lovely suprise and kept us going for several picnics. Thank you; we enjoyed a wonderful family holiday here. Apologies for all the sand!

As with previous guests, we had a problem with the shower and sink not draining so had to buy some drain unblocker which worked but had to wait overnight to use the shower. Although the bathroom is fitted with some disabled adaptations, the shower is incredible slippy when wet so we bought a shower mat which helped. A hand rail by the front and back door would also have helped. The step in through the front door and garage are too steep to get our power wheelchair in so had to leave it in the car which is fine but we couldn’t have charged it without an extension cable. I realise that our individual needs are not the owners responsibility but with a little investment in a new shower and previously stated additions, it would be much more accessible property.

  • "This is the first of many Sykes properties I have stayed in that I have had to complain about."

First impressions were very poor. The front garden was overgrown with hedges and grass very long and poorly looked after. Window sills and front door were very dirty and unwelcoming. First impressions inside were acceptable. After the first day we found that the radiator in one of the double bedrooms was not heating up as efficiently as the others. This made it very cold in the night an we had to change bedrooms. In the twin bedroom the central heating boiler was in the wardrobe which I wasn't very happy with at all. It also kept me awake at night switching off and on as I slept in this room. The lounge was dominated by a huge and very heavy "coffee table" containing thousands of sea shells. This had to be moved away ,with great difficulty, as it was not convenient and was a problem where it was. As the French doors did not open I had to drag this thing down in front of them out of the way. The standard of the furniture in the lounge was very shabby and poorly placed which meant we had to reposition the two settees and lounge chair to acceptable positions. Taking a walk out into the back garden through the back door , as the French door were not accessible, once again we were met by poor mainainance. The hedges were untrimmed, the grass was very long, there were weeds growing up through the cracks in the patio and some of the patio slabs were raised and unstable. The garden furniture was also very unwelcoming. Needless to say we did not spend any time out there all week. Finally I had read from previous people on your site that the shower cubicle was leaking out onto the floor but the problem had been rectified. Really it had not. The problem was not the cubicle. The shower cubicle drain was almost entirely blocked. This was obviously backing up the water in the bottom which the overflowed out under the door. This meant having a shower I'm short bursts of a minute or so to allow the water to drain away. The cleanliness of the shower had also been neglected. Overall we were not impressed with the property at all. We had friends visiting one day who were also staying in a SYKES rental and they could not believe it. I really think that you should check this property as is definitely not up to your standard. Needless to say we will book with Sykes again but definitely not at THE BUNGALOW...........I'm very sorry.

We had a pleasant stay. The bungalow was warm and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The shower was easy to use and efficient. A few things were missing however. . We have stayed in many cottages over the years and there is usually a visitors book where previous visitors have left suggestions for eating out and places to visit. There is also usually a folder with information about local shops, chemist, doctor etc together with appliance instructions, in fact we failed to get the DVD player to work. We have also found games, books, and sometimes DVD’s in cottages. There were a few outdoor things in the garage. The garden gates need attention as they wouldn’t close properly to keep the dogs safe. There was washing up liquid but again usually where there is a washing machine we’ve usually had liquid or tablets supplied. However the welcome basket was appreciated and as a base for exploring the area the bungalow suited our needs. Although in the great scheme of things what I’ve pointed out are minor observations, but future visitors may be glad to be aware of them.

The bedding was clean. There was mould in all the rooms and dust in the corners. there was even what looked like blood stain on a net curtain in one of the bedrooms'. Could of done with a dishwasher and a hair dryer.

Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry to hear that you had issues with The Bungalow during your stay. Had you reported these to us whilst you were in the property we would have arranged for these to be attended to as a matter of priority. The property has been assessed and does not contain mould, but there is a small amount of condensation build up around the window. This build up of condensation could be a result of the area not being adequately vented during the wet weather which was experienced during your stay. It was very unfortunate that during your stay the number of people with Covid in Pembrokeshire was at its highest in the whole country, even higher than in major cities. When you are on holiday in such a beautiful and rural place it is hard to imagine there is Covid. Although it is unlikely that covid was contracted purely from your stay in the bungalow, I would urge guests whilst they enjoy the cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops, galleries and local attractions to be mindful of the current government covid guidelines. Ventilating the bungalow and using the sanitizing products can help keep us all safe. Property Owner

Normally there is a welcome ‘pack’ on arrival, giving details of WiFi code, heating instructions etc. All we had was a load of cleaning products and instructions of emptying the bin and taking the bedding off. I understand the need for these, but there were no personal touches. The bungalow is actually quite tired and I don’t like to complain, but it wasn’t clean...with lots of dust on skirting boards and in the bathroom. I used the back bedroom and the wooden furniture smelled really bad. There was a dehumidifier in the property so I assume there’s a damp problem. It takes a long time to fill the bowl with water to wash dishes as the pipe work is old and inadequate. Also, a bigger bin is needed as there’s no option to recycle anything. On the plus side, the area is lovely and quiet with a big field nearby and the shops are all within walking distance. Fishguard is a pretty place with lots of stunning views from great walks. Nice to have a decent sized TV in the living area with built in Netflix.

  • "Although the bungalow was very clean and tidy on arrival, there were a few points I would like to raise."

    1) Unfortunately the bungalow did smell as if it was damp and we noticed that there were damp boxes to catch condensation on bedroom windows. I suffer with asthma and on returning home, I have a slight chest infection, I think may be due to the damp. 2) We were unable to use the central heating as there were no instructions on how to use it. In hindsight we should have contacted Sykes to let you know. 3) It would be helpful if owners left their phone number in case of any issues 4) Instructions on how the bungalow works would be helpful, such as easier instructions on how to use the digital hob, and also inform guests that there is Netflix on the TV as this was a godsend. 5) Information leaflets on various activities in the area would certainly help guests. All in all, we would give our whole holiday experience 8/10

  • "When we arrived at prop there was a old scruffy caravan up drive with lots garden rubbish behind."

Inside prop french doors dont open keys dont work.had to mop back bedroom as floor dirty.fridge freezer dirty with food in.slept in back double room which smelt damp from chest draws .moved to other back bedroom scratching noise like rats. Decided to come home early as not to our standands had to wash all clothes when home as mold smell on them. This is not 4 ticked prop and i feel it would take alot for us to go with sykes again.

Thank you for your feedback. Garden Waste - Unfortunately due to a mix up with the new booking system with the local refuse centre, we were unable to remove the clippings. Due to our oversight I have asked the gardener to resolve this issue for me which he has done. Damp smell - Due to the restrictions of Covid across the UK, this has impacted the use of holiday homes which has presented new challenges which we are actively trying to overcome. Your comments regarding the damp smell have been raised with the cleaning team who have worked to resolve this issue. French door keys - There is a fully working rear door which keys have been supplied with the property. which has a hallway which would allow the guest to remove any wet or dirty footwear and coats, in an attempt to ensure that the Bungalow remains clean for future guests. Therefore the keys for the french door have not been supplied. Rats - The floors in the back bedrooms are concrete so it is not likely to harbour rodents. following your comment I have tasked the cleaning team and the gardener to look for any evidence or signs of a rodent problem. Fortunately they have found no evidence of their presence. I am unsure what you heard, but I am confident to say that it was not rats. Property Owner

Shame really but can understand why when people do abuse items that are not theres. It could have done with a Swiffer type mop and not a mop and bucket as my younger dog played with it if I did not hide the item. It is a lovely bungalow , I found the shower floor very slippery when wet. Also the pull cord was very hard to turn on and off.

The accommodation itself was very spacious and comfortable and decorated beautifully. However, a vacuum would have been nice just so we could clean up our dog’s fur during our stay. Additionally, we had a slight problem whilst we were there so had to contact Sykes. They contacted the owner immediately and our problem was resolved the same day - a massive thank you to Sykes and the owner of the cottage. The cottage is a 5min walk from Fishguard High Street and a 10min walk down a steep hill to the lower town. The Pembrokeshire coastal path is right on its doorstep too. A beautiful part of the country. Would definitely return!!

Everything else went smoothly for the rest of the week. Agreement Policy When I booked the bungalow first I only booked it for 4 days, then because I have always been pleased with your service I carried on looking for another bungalow for later in the year, when I came across the bungalow I had booked and found out that I could have the week for the same price, so I contacted you straight away and ask to change it to the week: only to be told that I would have to pay an extra £30. I could have understood the charge if I had cancelled, or wanted to change the date, but to be charged just to add on 3 days I think this is a bit much on your part seeing it was out of season booking. My wife and friends have several cottages a years, and we have always been pleased with your service, but in future we looking around at other companies as well.
