  • "This cottage is so lovely and cosy!"

We had such a great stay and I would really recommend this place to stay for couples. The bed is really comfy and the sofas in the lounge are too. The kitchen is really well equipped and very lovely to cook in. The big table would be great for lots of people to sit around. The area is absolutely beautiful, very close to small villages and towns and so many walks very close by. The Pembrokeshire coast is beautiful, you can even see the sea from this property. It was so quiet and relaxing, loved it! The cottage doesn’t have any central heating so it is cold when the fire isn’t on. The owner was very kind in showing us how to properly light the fire as we were struggling but once we got it lit it did start to heat up! The upstairs bedroom was always hot and the duvet provided was very warm. The drive up to the cottage is on a farm track and we just about managed it in our fiat 500! A bigger car probably wouldn’t find it an issue and our car did manage it but it is very bumpy. We had the best, most relaxing trip we’ve had in a long time, thank you very much!

  • "The perfect retreat from a busy world."

Set in the National Park, this cottage provides a green view (with sheep) out of every window. A long communal table forms the heart with comfortable bedrooms and sitting room. A long and muddy drive with various gates forces you to slow down from the minute you arrive. I have stayed a couple of time and look forward to coming back. So much to do on the doorstep, from long country walks, cosy pubs to bracing clifftop views.

The cottage was lovely and would consider coming back again. The welcome pack was greatly appreciated too. We also made great friends with the local young black cat!

  • "We have had a wonderful week enjoying Dinas again."

The house was perfect for our needs. The kids had space to play outside and we enjoyed the rural position. Loved the local beaches as always and visited Whitesands near St David’s for a day too. Thank you we love the area.

  • "We just came back from staying a week at Ty Mellen."

We had a lovely time. Couldn't fault the cottage. Everything we needed was provided. Beautiful location. Perfect escape. So quiet. Several walks from the cottage and only a short drive to some of the nicest beaches. Fishguard and Newport again only a short drive. Hopefully return one day. Thank you.

  • "Driving up from either the stunning north Pembrokeshire coast or from the wooded Cwm Gwaun valley."

From the moment you open the first farm gate and follow the foxgloved lined lane up to the cottage and the wild moorland beyond. It’s absolutely magical. We were lucky enough to visit during some fabulous June weather. The views from the house are stunning rocky summits and blue seas. The host is nearby but leaves you to enjoy the peace and tranquility. It’s a place where you could quite happily do nothing. We swam in quite coves, walked the coast path and walked up to Dinas mountain. Would happily recommend. A place to go slow down be present and mindful.

Loved where it was, you had views of the sea and hills and it was an excellent place to chill, relax and forget the outside world exists! Lovely cottage with all you need to enjoy your stay and plenty of places to visit without driving miles. Pembrokeshire is a lovely place and hopefully one day we will return. Thankyou so much for letting us stay in this beautiful place .

  • "Just wonderful!"

The hosts have created a cottage in-keeping with its location, affording, immediately, peace and tranquillity. The attention to detail is excellent, from providing beach towels to choice of weights of duvet (rare in self-cottages in our experience). And what a generous Welcome Basket. Our family of three, including a 15 year old, all with very different interests, thoroughly enjoyed the week at Ty Mellen.

We’re so pleased that you each loved your week at Tŷ Mellen for different reasons. The history and magnificence of the mountain scenery impresses us every day. Thank you very much indeed. Property Owner

  • "Very comfortable, clean and well appointed accommodation in a relaxingly scenic area."

Very friendly, welcoming and informative hosts providing an excellent welcome pack. Wildlife especially birds were a bonus as were the local walks from the accommodation. The outdoor furniture and BBQ enabled us to enjoy the long summer evenings. The evening sunsets were fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay; even the wake up call from the friendly sheep that greeted us at the kitchen door in the morning. Would definitely recommend and hope to return back ourselves.

We love that you both enjoyed being on the mountain so much & really feeling part of nature. Thank you very much indeed for being so appreciative, you were wonderful guests. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay."

The cottage is well equipped throughout with thought having being put in to the provision of a lovely welcome basket and of beach mats, towels, charcoal and initial wood for the fire. We chatted with the owner whilst passing on a narrow country lane and waved on other days. Not intrusive but friendly and offering support should we need it. A grand break.

Thank you so much for leaving your feedback. It was a pleasure to have you stay and despite us leaving you completely alone, glad that you felt welcome, you most certainly were and will be again. Property Owner

The property

Resting on top of Dinas Mountain on the outskirts of Dinas Cross, Pembrokeshire is this beautiful, detached barn conversion, Tŷ Mellen.

Hosting four guests in two bedrooms, the detached cottage is full of character for a unique retreat in a rural location away from the hustle and bustle.

Drive up a farm lane to find the stone cottage sitting picture-perfect just next to the owner's property, where you can leave your car in the off-road parking space and take in the panoramic views.

Step through the pretty, Preseli blue doors and be welcomed into the open-plan kitchen/diner; white-washed walls, quaint little windows and hard wooden floors make for a charming space to rustle up home-cooked meals using the electric Smeg Ceramic cooker, whilst the dishwasher and washing machine help you keep everything clean.

Dine at the rustic wooden table with pew benches to enjoy a meal with your loved ones after an adventure-filled along the Pembrokeshire coast.

On colder days, retreat to the warmth of the woodburning stove in the sitting room, with sofas to sink into, a TV for entertainment, or simply rest with a good book in hand.

Freshen up in the ground-floor shower room with a walk-in shower to rinse the day away, before catching your rest in one of two bedrooms; a ground-floor double also has outside access to start the day with mountain-fresh air, whilst upstairs a mezzanine family room with double and twin is a snug room with sloped ceilings, exposed beams and sea views from the Velux windows.

Why not rise early to catch the sunrise with your morning coffee at the picnic bench?

Wherever you stand around Tŷ Mellen, you'll be treated with sweeping views across the countryside or all the way down the coast, whilst the sheep gently graze around the property.

A short walk and climb over a stile will take you onto the renowned Pembrokeshire Coast Path, making this a walker's paradise; picturesque coves, beaches and rugged coastlines await avid explorers, wildlife enthusiasts or those seeking a sandy spot to soak up the sun.

For self-catering essentials, take a short drive into Dinas for two well stocked small shops that sell local and familiar staples.

Supermarkets are found just a little further in either direction.

You’ll find The Bridgend Inn nearby in the valley at Llanychaer or The Castle Inn in Newport.

Pwllgwaelod Beach and Aberfforest Beach are two nearby sanctuaries to dip your toes in the sea, or venture to the historic hamlet of Cwm yr Eglwys.

The coastal town of Fishguard is home to a bustling bay, the ruins of Fishguard Fort and Rhos Wdig nature reserve, whilst Newport is a lovely day out to visit Ty Twt Dolls’ House and Toy Museum.

With gorgeous coastlines and countryside on its unique doorstep, choose Tŷ Mellen for your Pembrokeshire base.
