The firmness or otherwise of the mattress is very much a matter of personal preference, for us, double mattress ok, single not so (solved with a mattress topper). We found the electric heaters to be highly efficient, only needing to be set on low to maintain a pleasant temperature. In the lodge info pack, the suggested eating establishments for those with dogs were spot on. The joining instructions need to be updated as the pond is now hidden behind a fence, it may now be simpler to just say take the first left. Would we use this lodge again, yes.

Good position on the park, quite and sun all day on the decking. Needs a little tlc, kitchen work tops and patio door. Small on site shop, very good. Bar restaurant wasn't open. • "At first glance, the property seemed lovely & was nicely presented."

However, the twin beds need replacing, not only are the bases ripped, the children (7 & 12) found them hugely uncomfortable due to the springs being very prominent. I had to take the quilt out of the cover & lay it inder the bottom sheet. The worktop in the kitchen is hugely unhygienic. At the join, it is split & lifting up. If, in your own home this is how you have it, that's personal choice, but not acceptable to your paying guests. It was clear it hasn't just happened either. Basically, it needs a lot of tlc ie.damaged furniture replacing. When getting cutlery out, several pieces were dirty, so we washed it all (including the tray which had a lot more than cutlery in it!) & one of the wine glasses had bright lipstick on it, consequently, we washed everything before using it as it made us dubious about anything being clean, which was a shame. The WiFi was intermittent which meant the telly lagged a lot, which was frustrating but probably easily solved, we noticed a few people had commented the same in the guest book. There was a huge empty telly box, Christmas decs, cleaning equipment (upright hoover, mop & bucket etc) & bits of cupboard/shelving & so on in the main wardrobe which was annoying as it took up a fair chunk of valuable space. Particularly when there was a locked cupboard, presumably for cleaning stuff where some of it could've been housed.. All that being said, the park was in a gorgeous location, was quiet in the evenings (but FYI, they are doing the park up/putting more lodges in etc so lots of heavy equipment going past the lodge at 8ish a m, in case you didn't already know) & after a bit of money spent on replacing things the owners must already be aware of (lining on curtains or blinds as well) & more thoughtful reorganisation of their personal equipment, this lodge has the potential to be absolutely fantastic!

It was also in a great position in the park, so you didn’t feel enclosed. We were not however told about the condition of the cupboards within the lodge until a couple of days before our arrival from the owner. Whilst some of the cupboards had been painted, the surfaces were peeling and cracked and rusty door handles, it was not really an issue for us but I feel we should have been advised of this sooner to make a decision if we wanted to continue with our booking or not. The pictures advertised of the kitchen in particular did not reflect the actual condition when we arrived. The Wi-Fi was also very hit and miss and we literally had 1-2hrs of Wi-Fi every morning and very little phone signal. Overall it was an enjoyable stay, just these little bits that need updating.

The microwave had been replaced the day we arrived and the bed mattress on the bed was great and obviously new! The Welsh cakes and coffee and milk were much appreciated on our arrival. The site itself is in a very tranquil location. Unfortunately, there was some building work going on which sometimes upset our dog who has an aversion to noise outside including people wearing vis vests and hard hats. That said we were out during the day and had a lovely time in New Quay, Aberaeron as well as the woodland walk accessible from the park. It would have been nice to have had a shop or food offer on site for convenience but we made use of the Llanina Hotel a couple of miles up the road which had a decent food offering and was dog friendly! Would return for a short break without question.

After a drive of 7 hours from Glasgow we arrived at this Lodge to find it cold and a musty smell. Heating was all switched off, free sat box did not work. No internet connection although when I did enquire I was given the code to connect to wifi however even though you had wifi you had no internet access. So had to use all data allowance on phones. No soap available and no toilet rolls. Once again the owner apologised for cleaner not leaving some. Think the cleaner had other things on their mind as there was dog hairs under the sofa and chairs. Duvet cover was and torn and needed replaced. However I don't think this is all down to the owner people who stay here need to accept some responsibility too if they don't clear up after themselves. Hob needs replaced as its seen better days and is old and engrained in dirt we never used it. If you are a large gent like me better to sleep in the two single beds rather than try and squeeze between wall and double bed to get to your side. Now it may sound as if I have nothing good to say about this lodge far from it. When heating was on it was cosy and snug. Beds were actually ok and able to sleep. Tv worked although did not go on a break to watch tv. New Quay only five minutes away by car, Cardigan bay 17 miles and Aberystwyth 20 miles. Local shop on site and PUb served food so was handy. What I will say is if you want a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle and have dogs ideal. Plenty of walks and you will need to be a driver to get around. Unfortunately due to circumstances we had to cut break short and return home to Scotland so had to leave 3 days early. Avoided all the bad weather.

The property

This delightful lodge is situated on the popular 'Dogs Welcome' Woodlands Lodge Retreat site, nestled into a secluded valley surrounded by wooded hillside and bordered by a stream in the pretty hamlet of Gilfachreda.

Located near to Llanarth, the property is 5 minutes drive from the picturesque and bustling seaside resort of New Quay - and just 10 minutes from Aberaeron, with its lovely Georgian harbourside.

Set over one level, the lodge is accessed up three steps and has enclosed decking surrounding the front and part of the side of the lodge.

Open the doors and relax with a refreshing drink on the decked veranda, with your dog at your feet, after a full day exploring what Ceredigion has to offer! This property offers an ideal retreat for friends or families wishing to be close to sandy beaches and peaceful countryside, all set in an idyllic setting surrounded by woodland and nature.

Inside the lodge is modern and stylish with a bright and cheery open plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen, dining area and a comfortable sitting area with electric coal-effect fire. There are two pleasant bedrooms, a double (with wall mounted TV) and twin, plus a modern family shower room. The park has a lovely woodland trail for you to wander or follow the River Llethi as it meanders through the park to Cei Bach Beach (the closest beach which welcomes dogs all year round) where at low tide you can reach the pretty harbourside town of New Quay.

Enjoy traditional fish and chips at New Quay, a cooling ice cream, or perhaps enjoy a meal in one of the many cafes and restaurants either in New Quay or Aberaeron where there are some excellent restaurants to be found.

Boat trips to explore Cardigan Bay’s marine ecology and Heritage Coast can also be booked at the harbour. The coastline is a walker’s paradise with intimate coves to discover such as Cwmtydn or spend the day at one of the many sandy beaches at Penbryn a short drive away. The National Trust’s Llanerchaeron Estate invites you to step back in time on this fascinating traditional farm with the mansion built by the great architect John Nash.
