  • "Enjoyed our week at Cow Cott, despite the inclement weather, power cut and car problems!"

! It is compact, but clean, cosy, comfortable and well equipped. Carol was a great host, very welcoming and went over and above to help us out when we needed it, for which we were very grateful. Wouldn't hesitate to return for a 5star relaxing break in a peaceful area.

  • "What can I say."

This was just a lovely stay. I was made to feel so welcome. I came here with my little puppy to havesome time away without my children. A much-needed break was just what was required. My puppy loved the surrounding gardens and the donkey. The Cow Cott was just perfect for my needs. Very peaceful and relaxing and listening to nature at its best. I received a handmade cake on arrival, plus chocolate biscuits, Cadburys mini chocolates, a bottle or red wine and even some treats for my puppy. I was totally blown away. There was also coffee, tea, salt and pepper, cooking oil, cleaning equipment’s, tea towels, eye masks, you name it, it was there. The Wi-Fi was amazing. In the description it mentions its only for browsing, but I was able to watch Netflix, apple tv and you tube, TikTok with no issues from my mobile using the Wi-Fi. There is a lovely electric fire, but there is also heating as well. The bed was so comfortable. Everything was to a high spec. There is another fridge and freeze in the outbuilding if needed, but I didn’t need to use it. I would definitely come back another time and would highly recommend.

We were lucky enough to have really hot weather and on returning from a day out we found a note from carol saying as it's so hot thought you might like a fan & some home made cupcakes .The owner is always on hand but never intrusive. Rosie the donkey likes to greet you and likes lots of fuss too. Highly recommend this place.

  • "Sykes are very good at omitting key information, such as the lack of comfortable seating."

The listing mentions a lounge area, which one would presume included a sofa, so whilst the listing does not state a sofa is present, it doesn’t make clear this is a studio style set-up and the bed doubles up as your sofa! This is something I’ve noted with Sykes before and in no way does this reflect on the owner. Our host as very welcoming and lovely. The cottage was very clean and well presented and in a peaceful location and we are grateful for her friendliness and care.

We absolutely love it here! Carol is just wonderful. She welcomes us with open arms and leaves us lovely treats. Nothing is too much trouble and she always makes time for a chat. The cottage is beautiful, so clean and comfortable and has everything you need. We have fallen in love with Rosie and Ted. They are such sweet souls and we enjoy spending time with them. There’s so much to see in the area. We spent a day at Hergest Gardens and Park wood, stopping for a delicious cream tea at the Maples tea rooms. We went for walks through the fields amongst the sheep and their lambs and we saw wild ponies up at Hergest Ridge. Brobury Gardens are beautiful especially this time of year as the bluebells are already out and the apple blossoms are so pretty. The Garden cafe is also well worth a visit for a cream tea or lunch. I cannot recommend the Cow Cott enough, that’s why we keep returning! It fills you with such a sense of peace and tranquility. A very special place and we hope to return again soon.

But in Cow Cottage they have surpassed themselves. You can check details of the cottage on the Sykes site. But they are a minor part of the deal. Far more important are the Family Rickman. Philip who works hard as an author. Carol who works her fingers off looking after you - including baking you wonderful cakes, answering any questions with unlimited patients and introducing you to their two wonderful animals, both of which our Bedlington Terrior Alfie fell in love with. Ted, the Airdale who cried for Alfie whenever we were in. Rossie the Donkey who brayed for Alfie each morning and evening and waited for him at her stable gate. Seeing the two of them nuzzeling was amazing. You don't need to go out - stay and enjoy the wonderful ambience. Thank you Family Rickman - a wonderful holiday. xxx

Everything you need for a week's stay is all there, even a freezer is available across the farm yard in an adjacent barn. Forget the location given by Sykes, you will not find it from the info given, call the owner and she will give detailed instructions! If you like walking, hiking or cycling then this is a perfect base, there are several walks you can do from the cottage, but it's easy to get to the Brecon Beacons, Malverns or the Forrest of Dean. The cottage is ideal for a dog too with exercise fields on the doorstep, great country and hill walks nearby, and the cottage floor is easy to clean after the inevitable muddy paw-prints! Don't rely on signposts for navigation; few exist, those that do are often hidden in hedgerows, or are non-reflective and don't show up in the dark! OS Map OL13 is essential for enjoying the lanes and footpaths in the area. Rosy the donkey and Mrs Hen the peahen live next to the cottage, and together with dozens of swallows and sparrows swooping around, added an extra-special and lovely dimension to the experience of staying here. There are several dog-friendly pubs near-by offering good food and a reasonable selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes available. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and I slept really well as the cottage is in a beautiful and peaceful location. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to recharge their batteries and enjoy the stunning countryside and the nearby Brecon Beacons.

  • "The Cow Cott is very small, new and tidy and exactly as described."

For a couple, in an out of the way place it is great. The farm owners are informative without being intrusive. The farm is delightful and the surrounding countryside outstanding. The walks starting at the farm are just incredible. Go a little further and the Black Mountains, Welsh borders offer superb views, interesting history and truly amazing people. Everyone we met was so friendly. The farm even has a couple of friendly resident donkeys and a peahen.

  • "The Cow Cott is an idyllic place to stay."

We stayed for the August Bank Holiday and really enjoyed our stay. The cleanliness of the Cow Cott is superb, the facilities are excellent and we had no trouble with the WiFi. Very comfy bed and top quality pillows. You have everything you need to have a comfy stay here. The hosts are very attentive and made myself, my husband and our dog very welcomed, they even baked a delicious fruit cake and placed it on our doorstep -lovely surprise and much needed along with a brew after a long walk! There are some great walks in the area, there’s a ruined castle -Urishay castle just down the road, sadly it’s private so you can’t have a look round but you can see it from the road but there is a ruined church next to it that you can have a look at. The local pubs are dog friendly which helps when you need to stop off for refreshments halfway through your walk! We will definitely be staying here again!

  • "We were their first visitors."

Stayed here for a week with my 5 year old daughter. The place is absolutely beautiful and the owners were just lovely, they baked a lovely fruit cake for our arrival and welcomed us into their home for a cup of tea and a nice chat. The facilities are brilliant and the little kitchen has everything you need to self cater. I really can’t recommend this place enough. It was peaceful and relaxing but there is lots to do in the area.

About the location

HEREFORD

Leominster 14 miles.

The cathedral city of Hereford dates back to Saxon times, and with its medieval bridge over the winding River Wye it is the very image of picturesque England. With a mix of buildings from almost every British era, eclectic Hereford is a popular base for those seeking to explore the locale – being ideally placed for accessing the Black and White villages of the region, not to mention the delights of neighbouring Shropshire, Worcestershire and The Cotswolds. Famous as a cider producing town, Hereford is also the home of the Mappa Mundi, the largest and most elaborate pre-15th century map in existence, which resides in the cathedral alongside the famous Chained Library – a collection of over 1500 rare books from as early as the 8th century. Nearby is the half timbered town of Leominster, filled with medieval buildings, often overhanging the street, and also accessible is the natural splendour of Symonds Yat, a rocky outcrop on a 5 mile bend of the River Wye, with spectacular views and the opportunity to spot protected peregrine falcons flying from their nests.
