"The property was as described and our host was very pleasant and welcoming."
On entering the property it was a lovely gesture to find a welcoming pack for us to enjoy. Everything was spotlessly clean and it was a joy to have a fully equiped kitchen. The bed was very comfortable and the whole setting peaceful with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.

"A very enjoyable and peaceful week."
The accommodation felt spacious - large kitchen / dining room as well as the living room / bedroom. Spotlessly clean, very quiet. Pleasant views over the walled garden, heavy with the scent of lilies when I visited. Although on the ground floor, the access from the road has a number of steps up and down and up again to reach the entrance. No problem for the reasonably able, but it could be a challenge for someone less mobile.
Very well situated for walks into the centre of Kington and up to Hergest Ridge.
Many thanks for this!

"Garden View is a lovely quiet place to stay and in an ideal location."
It looks out over a pretty garden and across to the hills. Everything you could need for a comfortable stay is provided. It's close to shops and the bus station so is ideal for walkers and anyone using public transport. A regular bus service to Hereford, LLandrindod Wells and Knighton makes exploring these areas easy too. I was very pleased to find that I could use my Wales Bus Pass on all Seargant's buses even on journeys solely within England!
Thank you so much for this!

Sarah was an excellent host and I would be happy to go back again - just the right size for one or two people (2 person flat) There are steps so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues - the kitchen was well equipped and a nice gesture of a small bottle of preseco and biscuits on arrival - It was ideally located for me as I used public transport and also for using the local shops (the flat is self catering) and also for the Kington Walking Festival meeting point - a good place alround

"Sarah the host was very welcoming on a cold dark rainy evening."
She showed us the flat and was very helpful. The flat is at the back of the property with steps to negotiate but is well lit. There is everything you need to make your stay comfortable and warm (we had snow briefly)
Kington is a very small town steeped in history with friendly locals. Nearby are shops, pubs and places to eat out. Plus an 18 hole golf course. Parking is available free, close to the flat.
Would be more than happy to stay here again.

"I travel a lot and use Sykes cottages and other hotels and cottages frequently, but I have never had to leave a bad review as I need to on this occasion."
I found the cottage owners unfriendly and difficult to get hold of. I had to contact Sykes twice to complain and resolve issues.
On arriving at the property it was not clean and I have photos of pubic hair left in the shower soap dish, food left in the fridge, dirty grill pan etc.
The sofa is very uncomfortable as it sinks right down so far that I had to put two pillows under the seat to avoid getting chronic back pain.
The floorboards creak loudly when you walk about and using the cold tap makes a whooshing sound, neither of which bothered me but obviously annoyed the owners who live upstairs who started deliberately making noise and banging above me whenever I used the kitchen. I have recordings of this on my laptop.
The advertisement is misleading as the pictures show just five steps to go up to reach the property but you have to go up those steps, down a long corridor through another outside door, down some more steps round across another path and up a load more steps to reach the actual property. This wasn't too bad in daylight but I hurt my foot slipping down a step I couldn't see when it was dark one early evening. This property wouldn't be suitable for people with mobility issues.
That said, the Brecon Beacons were beautiful and the mountains, lakes and waterfalls well worth a visit. It's quiet this time of the year and the mountains had snow on them which added to the breathtaking views.
We are very shocked by this damning review and do not understand it. We
are so sorry that Ms Kowalczyk did not feel able to complain to us about
anything at all during her four week stay, and remained friendly and
cheerful at every encounter.
To take her complaints in order:
I personally greeted her and showed her into the property on her
arrival, and spoke to her when we met each other several times during
her stay, and on each occasion she seemed happy and to be enjoying her
visit. My mobile number was always available to her, as was our landline
number and front-door bell. At no time did she avail herself of any of
these possibilities. She never met my husband, so cannot really speak
about 'the owners' (plural).
She claims she had to contact Sykes to ‘resolve issues’, but Sykes did
not find it necessary to refer her complaints to us at any stage.
We are very sorry indeed to hear that she felt the property had not been
adequately cleaned. This is inexplicable, as is the claim that food had
been left in the fridge.
Some people prefer hard sofas and some prefer squashy ones.
Yes, one floorboard does creak. The property dates from 1836. We are
sorry Ms Kowalczyk was also irritated by the noise of the cold water
tap. But it is absolutely untrue that we, who live upstairs, were
bothered by these noises; we cannot hear them at all.
Yes, there are more steps up and down to reach Garden View than are
shown on the website pictures. But the Sykes description says clearly
that ‘there are a number of steps up to this property, may not be
suitable for guests with limited mobility’.

"Garden View is in a historical building with original features, overlooking a charming walled garden and views to the hills."
There is very easy access to the town and many local walks, with a good bus service to Hereford and pretty villages. I only used the car once to visit Croft Castle! The cottage is well equipped, including a microwave, which I wasn’t expecting. Sarah the owner was friendly and welcoming, providing wine, biscuits and some freshly boiled quail eggs from her garden birds! Unfortunately I only discovered that the scaffolding was still up when I rang to arrange key collection, due to an unavoidable window repair delay. I understand the owners did inform Sykes of this, but the website wasn’t updated. However, this did not spoil a very enjoyable week in a beautiful area.
Thank you so much for this and for your patience re the scaffolding!

"It would be mean to be over critical, and hope this does not appear to be so."
However, although the place was spotless, well equipped and comfy, it did have a couple of drawbacks. Firstly it was offered as a single ground floor apartment, in many ways true, once inside the front door, it was flat and level, but access to the front door involved climbing up and down higgledy piggeldy stairs, not easy if you have mobility difficulties, secondly parking was very difficult, even in the village square. Not what we really expected and rather marred our stay. Had we known about the access problems we would have stayed away. A pity, it was very well presented and comfy.
We are sorry you were disappointed. However, we should point out that the description of the property on line states quite clearly
'Please note: There are a number of steps up to this property, may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility'.
We're glad we passes muster for comfort and cleanliness!
