  • "I was disappointed with the accommodation at Barn Cottage, I've never stayed in a junk yard before!"

! I took my elderly parents for a weeks holiday...their bed sheets and mattress was of poor quality and the bed appeared to have sand in it!! The wet room (wet being the operative word) if you showered you couldn't use the toilet until the floor dried...no mop to use. The waterfall tap in the sink was very rusty and stiff and was extremely hot!! The stopper in the sink would not connect to therefore kept losing the water. My dad dropped some money out of his pocket whilst on the sofa...when I picked up the cushion to retrieve it...it was obvious it had never seen a hoover..there was paper, dog hairs, crumbs etc. The fire doors were a hazard in themselves, blocked by all sorts of rubbish and scrap, so you couldn't exit if needed to. Peacocks wandering in the garden and using the lid of the hot tub as a toilet. The hot tub itself was full of sand and the water was never checked the whole week we were there! Lots of animals caged in not very nice surroundings..their water bowls were green. I do have photos of these complaints. However...I think an imminent inspection is required...mainly for the fire hazard issues. My daughter books holidays with yourselves regularly and has always been very pleased. • "We stayed at this charming cottage and couldn't have been more pleased with our experience."

The location is absolutely stunning, surrounded by natural beauty and offering a peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for relaxation. The owners are friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Our children absolutely loved the place! There was plenty of space for them to play, and they enjoyed the freedom to explore the outdoors in such a safe environment. The fresh, clean air was a refreshing change from city life, giving us all a chance to truly unwind and recharge. Overall, this is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We highly recommend it for families or anyone in need of a peaceful retreat.

  • "The cottage was spacious and really well maintained and decorated."

As a wheelchair user I was delighted to find it very accessible with a hoist available from the owner if needed. We loved being adopted by the farm cat and visited by the donkeys and peacocks. We met Stu, the host, on arrival and he was so friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We had a lovely week and would definitely recommend. Oh and did I mention the glorious hot tub?

  • "We only spent a small amount of time in the actual cottage spending most of our days exploring locally."

On our arrival the cottage was dirty, with dog hair still on the floor, a foot print on one of the chairs and hair and filth in the wet room drain grate, the cooker hood had grease literally dripping from it, the drain in the back of the fridge was blocked, the bbq was falling apart with 1 leg shorter than the other 3, the kitchen floor tile grout was black where it was supposed to be beige. The children's play area has 3 trampolines, 1 of which had no net and 1 of which has 3 springs missing around the edge. Overnight we found the mattresses to be thin and uncomfortable, offering no support. After a couple of days I had to secure a piece of the fence near the entrance to the play area which had fallen over and was laying across the gateway with a nail sticking up through it. On the second day our little boy stood on some broken glass ion our patio area and cut his foot on the way to the hot tub (which was surprisingly clean although the speakers on the side of it were broken) which showed the patio area hadn't been swept. In addition to it's general lack of cleanliness and the unsafe condition of the play area, the cottage was tired, the ceiling needed painting, the debris stored on the clear roof of the hot tub area needed to be removed and the curtain pole over the front door needed to be replaced with one that wasn't broken. After we had found a screwdriver and reassembled the bbq, found a chunk of wood to put under the short leg we found there were no bbq utensils. I also unblocked the drain in the fridge and fished out the mould which had grown in there with a wooden skewer. I bleached the wet room floor but i wasn't prepared to remove what was akin to a dead ferret all along the drain grate. On top of all the above on night 2 of our stay we were kept awake by a fracas outside the main house which resulted in arrests and 2 police vans arrivng at 2am! Needless to say after your host is arrested for common assault you are less inclined to make a complaint in person. Whilst I expect a cottage on a farm to have farm mess, i expect it to be safe and clean as a holiday rental and perhaps not have a cockerel to wake us at the sunrise each morning. I have photographs should you wish to see them.

  • "Lovely welcome from Colin and Elain."

Andrea and Stewart very friendly and welcoming also. The wheelchair they supplied for us was invaluable. The animals were great and loved seeing and feeding them. The only constructive critisism is the mattress being springs, very loud when turning over. Would definitely stay again. Thank you very much for a great holiday.

Farm animals and others a delight. Very welcoming. I'm a wheelchair user and it was wheelchair accessible, no steps or difficult thresholds. Bathroom isn't huge but shower chair was available on request which was helpful. Other helpful disability items are available on request so speak to owners who can advise. Will absolutely book again.

  • "Wow, what a hidden treasure!"

We had an incredible time here. The children absolutely loved it - the cottage is located on a farm with so many different animals which was wonderful for the children. There is also a small little park and trampoline which was a great added bonus. The hot tub was amazing, sitting in there at night listening to all the owls talking to each other was beautiful. The photos on the website haven’t been updated for a while, but the cottage itself is stunning. Stu & Andrea are amazing hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. We will definitely be back. Thankyou so much!

Location was too remote for us but that wasn’t anyone’s fault. It’s a working farm which is great but some areas were very run down and full of building materials/rubbish so a bit unsightly. No mops to keep floors clean the only one we could find was outside all rusted up. Owners nice and friendly . Local village lovely

Barn cottage is lovely and the hosts, Andrea and Stuart, were very friendly and helpful. The cottage is a little difficult to find but, once you get there, you realise how much thought has been put into it. It is very well equipped including a dishwasher, washing machine and hot-tub and extremely peaceful. The variety of animals around are a bonus and it's great to open the door in the morning and see the goats and chickens trying to get in. We're already telling our friends about the place.

The owners were also lovely and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities such as the hot tub and wet room were perfect. We enjoyed the animals and popping down to visit them and feeding them. We were given a tour of the animals and told a little bit about them all which was really interesting and fun. Our party aged from 2 to 79 with one wheelchair user and every one had a good time. The cottage is on a working farm so if you don't enjoy being around that then it wouldn't be for you but we were really happy and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The immediate outside courtyard was clean and tidy but the rest of the farm was very scruffy - We had a few technical problems with hot water so didn’t have any for the last day , whilst the hosts were great at trying to fix it they couldn’t- thankfully there was an electric shower so we could have warm showers. The host work on old caravans and temporary office huts which are on site and can be a bit noisy with banging and sawing at times - Maybe it was early in the season but the site needed a good tidy - Accommodation was clean and pleasant Hosts friendly and helpful Finally hot tub was definitely the selling point and amazing- it was huge with fab different jets xx
